1. Brand.
- Currently eyeing SGS2 and HTC Sensation, but open to suggestions!
2. Budget.
- RM2.5k
3. Specs.
- Dual core seems to be in fashion..
4. What you need in the phone
- nice battery life, nice body build, little to no lag, cool UI, easy customization, blazing fast web surfing experience, decent camera.

fire away!

since you have the budget for it, I suggest that you stick to your current choices,
both are the top of the line phones from the respective manufacturer,
and continue doing your research on it to find out which one you'd prefer more

another phone that you might want to pay attention to is GSM version EVO 3D
BUT that is just a rumored model, so far there's no confirmation that its even available or not.

lol, WTF

its better to get Captivate instead if you're not going for Desire already

SL would be the last choice, IMO

1. Brand - HTC
2. Budget - 1.5 - 2k
3. Specs - as long as nice display & no lag
4. What you need in the phone - longer battery life, gorrila screen is a must

Any current model or future model(in 1-2 months) will do.

Thanks.

Hmm maybe ur rite. It make sense now.
Don wan SL since I want a crystal clear display like superamoled..huhu..

By the way, do any of you guys know how to check the manufacturer date from the phone?
*
lol, superamoled is not known for being "crystal clear", but for its vibrant colors
in terms of "crystal clear", LCD, or Super Clear LCD used by Galaxy SL is actually better

hi....

i'm trying to decide between a HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire S.... everyone tells me to get a Desire S because it's newer but i'm considering the Desire Z as it has a physical QWERTY keyboard. i'm currently having a SE Z770i, so switching to a smartphone is going to be a big jump for me hence i had the idea the the physical qwerty keyboard would be much appreciated.

Is it relatively easy to adapt to the touchscreen keyboard? I have tried my friend's phone a couple of times and i personally dislike typing with touchscreen, however i've been told that it just takes some getting use to. The Desire S is also more expensive than the Desire Z but has much better specs. Any suggestions?

Also what is the current price of both phones? Any estimates?
*
its fine to go with Desire Z if you liked the physical keyboard, the internal specs are more or less the same anyway.
they keyboard hinge is durable as well, as is testified by fellow Desire Z users in the official thread.
hence you don't have to worry about the build quality.

its you who are using the phone, not your friends, so go with what you like.

But the Desire Z is also running on Android Froyo i heard? Is it easy to upgrade to Gingerbread myself? I do not know the exact difference between the two, but I would assume that Gingerbread being newer, would fix any bugs in Froyo.

Also, is the Desire Z very much thicker and heavier than the Desire S due to the Z-hinge?
*
its running Froyo, but official GB update from HTC is coming soon enough source

Desire S is 11.6mm thick while Desire Z is 14.2mm, is that "very much thicker"? slightly thicker maybe.
heavier, yea S is 130g while Z is 180g, so definitely you can feel the difference in terms of weight when you hold it,
but imo that shouldn't be a deal breaker.

i'm more concerned about adapting to the onscreen keyboard. i'm not entirely sure whether i can get used to the idea of capacitive typing. Still more comfortable with a more tactile feel to the buttons.

Was the transition to touchscreen keyboard easy for you? i reckon it takes some time getting use to. I've also read that the Z-hinge of the Desire Z may get loose after some time and has became another concern of mine.

Also, do you know how much more expensive is the Desire S compared to the Desire Z?
*
personally I have no problems at all using capacitive typing, nowadays the soft keyboards are so advanced that you don't really have to "type"
either you poke on a few letters and the whole word comes up, or you just swipe around to type. (typing is only for iphone users tongue.gif)
so to me the physical keyboard is just unnecessary, but then again, everyone's preference is different.

here's a few video of the keyboard examples I've mentioned.

Desire Z can only be gotten as AP set now iinm, which cost about 1130+-
while Desire S AP can be around 1280+-, or ORI around 1680+-

before you ask, the difference between AP and ORI is warranty service.
basically with ORI you get better services.

ohhh... is it worth getting an AP? or would you recommend getting an ORI? Basically getting an AP means I would only get warranty services from the dealer i get it from only where else for ORI covers warranty under HTC as well right? sorry i'm not very well-versed in this area ^^;;

i have decided that Android was a better option from the very beginning... iPhone was never in consideration... ever tongue.gif just deathly afraid i can't get used to the tactile-less buttons of soft keyboards (unfortunately, i still live in the past tongue.gif). that's what everyone has been telling me as well, within a month or so and a little bit of practice on the soft keyboard, i'll be regretting buying the Desire Z.

thanks for the videos and your advice and recommendations, been a great help smile.gif think i might consider getting the Desire S after all, ORI seems a bit pricey at the mo though...

Also, are you from KL/Selangor area? you reckon getting it from Digital Mall is a good idea? biggrin.gif
*
personally I'd rather go AP, since I don't really need the warranty, plus I've rooted my phone since the day I got it, so warranty is voided anyway
I've been using my phone for almost 1 year now, and the warranty period is almost at its end, and I still don't need it yet.
even with that said though, it still depends on the user's luck, if you're lucky and took good care of your phone, you might not even needed the warranty at all.
ultimately it depends on the user, if you're skeptical about AP warranty then go ahead with ORI, otherwise just get AP.
I'm using AP as well, so far so good, but don't take my words for it, it could just be me being lucky tongue.gif

Some people do prefer physical keyboard compared to on screen ones, which the Desire Z caters for,
if you really do prefer Z then get it, in terms of internal spec, its not much difference than the Desire S,
if you're not someone who looks at specs and do benchmarks and stuffs like that, you won't even notice the difference.
in terms of build quality, you don't have to worry about it, just read through the Desire Z's official thread and you'll see,
there are tons of feedbacks from the users, especially regarding the keyboard hinge.
otherwise just go for S, its a good choice as well if you're not bothered with the typing on screen.

you can try going to shops and ask for real ones to test it out, see if you liked the keyboard or not, I think that would help you make your decision better.

I would prefer to go Low Yat Plaza instead of Digital Mall, even if its further and not so convenient, Digital Mall just seems like a place for those who can't get from the best (LYP) tongue.gif

the main thing that i don't like x10 is...
based on gsmarena, it has TFT capacitive touchscreen and ONLY 65K colors...
so, may be the color not good?

and TFT screen is abit hard to see under sunlight?
i also found that the xperia neo also have the same problem...

overall the x10 and xperia neo meets my requirement, is just some drawback on little things...

i think i will probably stick with galaxy SL as it is my target since few months ago.

Anyway, thanks for giving some useful comment and opinion for me.

TFT is your regular LCD panel type, actually if its under sunlight, doesn't matter what time of screen you're using, you can still barely see them.

X10 is ok, you won't really notice the 65k limited colors unless you compare them side by side.

personally I don't get why people would get SL AT ALL, I'd just top up little bit and go for SGS instead, AP set can be gotten real cheap.
