Changing from old school cell phone to smartphone first time  biggrin.gif

Need recommendation  notworthy.gif

Criteria:
1. ORIGINAL (No AP  nod.gif )
2. Budget: PREFERABLY <1.2k forum price (max 1.5k)
3. Capacitive, >3.5 inch screen, average RAM and CPU
4. Main usage: FAST SMS, surfing web using wifi, taking photo (have Acer A500, want a smartphone to do what a tablet can't do, or bad at it, thus the low budget)
5. Most important: GOOD camera (not asking for DSLR quality  wink.gif ), not only in terms of MP, but also the quality of the photo produced (heard some smartphones that have 5MP camera but photo quality is worse than 2MP)
6. Question: Is CAMERA FLASH an important requirement for GOOD photo taking, especially at night? (Like Galaxy S which doesn't have LED flash while Ace have  shocking.gif )
*
SonyEricsson X10 for the camera requirement. LED flash not as good as xenon flash, but better than nothing, and can be used as torchlight. X10 UI is not as fast as other phones, but the Gingerbread update in August should fix that (or you can flash some ROMs).

Should i opt for SGS I instead? Hmm....if buy present for someone else....need ask the store salesman to install anything or not..
*
If the recipient is geeky or has a higher-than-normal interest in phones, be sure the phone you buy is something he has expressed interest in. You know la, 21st century is the age of fanboyism... later you buy Samsung and he is HTC fan, sure die.

With that being said, if he is techy, no need to pre-install, he probably knows better than the salesman. Otherwise, Papago X5 is a good bet, but the store may charge you for a pirated copy available on the internet.

INCREDIBLE S - RM 1759
DESIRE S - RM 1699

Since Incredible S and Desire S are priced so similarly, what factors would make one go for the Desire (other than the aluminium unibody)?

Blackberry users are like dinosaurs to Android users. Haha!
But I don't get the Pizza Guy thing. Is it because Android users are everywhere and everybody can afford one?

Thanks for replying!
Actually, it's not the case that I cannot live without a physical keyboard granting my horrible experiences with the touch keyboard on my resistive touch screen HTC Touch HD that I owned previously.

I was allowed to play with my friends SGS today and the keyboard was decent. I do know however, that I have small problems while typing with my iPod touch.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!
*
You can replace the stock keyboard with another one. There are many different keyboards out there, like Swype, Swiftkey, etc, which are different typing experiences. You can also choose among QWERTY, numeric (like those old Nokias), etc. There must be something which suits you. BTW, HTC ChaCha has a physical keyboard too...

Incredible S/ SGS2 / Sensation / S Plus or something else? GPS is a major use for it. Thanks smile.gif

Incredible S vs Desire S, kinda confusing which one is the latest or the 'best'?
*
Desire S is newer. Incredible S is better. Price almost the same.

Currently using Gingerbreaded X10. Planning to give wife. Looking for a replacement. Won't be flashing custom ROM, but will root.

Screen: the bigger the better (can't get used to 3.2" after using 4")
Resolution: 480x800 and above
OS: must have official GB currently or in future
Budget: around 1k (of cos, the cheaper the better)

I can only think of the Ideos X5 for sub-1k. How does it stand up against the X10?

X5 is better than x10. smoothness. faster GPU, big 2GB internal memory , no laggy UI
just its screen is smaller @ 3.8"
not bad for @RM820 phone

Beats the x10 in a few factors. Gaming wise, ram wise and build quality wise.

Official GB launching somewhere in Q4 according to forumers here.

Holy China phone, Batman! Even build quality? I'm sold! Thanks! smile.gif

1. Brand - Except Nokia
2. Budget. - 1.5k-2.1k
3. Specs - Processor (as long as it won't lag while multitasking)
              - not too big the screen size
4. What you need in the phone
GPS, Battery Life at least a day, online (what normally a smartphone does)

Actually i planned to get a decent smartphone. my first choice is galaxys2, but due to its bulky look i kinda reluctant to get it. i prefer a size which goes max as big as an iphone4. iphone is definately out of budget for me. any good recommendation?
*
But iPhone4 black new is around 2k only, yes?

Ideos X5 is pretty good and cheap too, RM8xx.

i was looking thru the android forums and i saw there's some good response in the CSL mi-410, basically a rebranded huawei x6.
it runs gingerbread, has 1gh and 4.1inch screen while huawei x5 is only 800mhz with 3.8 screen.
the RRP is only RM799. have a look at it and let me know what u think. smile.gif

So a re-branded X6 is cheaper than X5? This is interesting. Now waiting for some guinea pigs pioneers to try it out. Can easily replace X5 as best-bang-for-the-buck sub-1k Android phone.
