Hi , I am demonhunter360. I want to share my artwork with you. Please have a look see. Thank you thank you. ^^

I'm gonna try to wrap this up in the next few days. Instead of holding a dinosaur, maybe I'll just put in a box of pizza. ^^ LOL. Or maybe Barney the dinosaur as stand in. I've been spending a week on this, and mum is asking me to finish up the painting of fruits instead so we can print it out and put on the kitchen wall. This PowerGirl has changed from how it started out. I made adjustments to the anatomy and even the hair. At first, this was supposed to be something simple and fairly quick to make, but as I got to painting the hair, it got more and more interesting and I just kept adding details. I think it looks pretty good. As for the face, I flipped it horizontally and made adjustments to make the face more symmetrical. Ah well, still got the legs (lower half of the body)

I'm probably taking more time than I should because I may not be painting the right way. Right now, there's lots of zooming in zooming out, and going into the tight spots and small areas to touch up and clean up. I'm gonna try a simpler coloring style next. Just 2 to 3 tones and using colored line widths to bring out texture and shape. Again I will combine Illustrator and Photoshop, but I suspect I'll use more Illustrator next.

This is the second part of Black Cat painting. Worked all day on it. I gotta stop and pull away from the monitor, this is crazy. Haha. ^^ My shoulders are aching because my workflow/ workplace setup is just a lousy foldable table...the height isn't suitable. Anyways, I think I have improved in terms of speed. It used to take me 1 to 2 weeks to get this far, but now I can bang this(this far in progress) up in 2 days. Definitely an improvement in efficiency. I've got better understanding of the tools in photoshop and more advanced knowledge through the tutorial magazines from ImagineFX, and Digital Artist magazines. The buildings were built from scratch using shapes in Adobe Photoshop. More to go, I thought I could finish this thing by today but I can't. Good pin-up art can't be rushed. I need to take time to make sure all the tiny details are done correctly. I guess it's the artist's diseases...obsession with perfection...anyways, I gotta start revising for test next week. Time to put Black Cat aside....for now.

"You like me because I'm CRAZY!" Finally, after about a week's time, working on it bit by bit. It finally paid off. I contemplated whether I should add a simple background but dreaded the thought of more work. Haha. Anyhow, I might add a simple background later, but for the moment, this is as good as it gets. I went in and cleaned out and tidied up all the parts. Mix of both Illustrator and Photoshop. Illustrator was mostly for the colored lines. Illustrator is best for making all the curvy lines and outlines in my opinion. But I will try the traditional inking way next time instead. As for the mallet, it was mostly colored lines through photoshop. Some final shadows were done using just seperate layers set at multiply and sprayed on.

For the Harley Quinn close up, it was added with a noise filter and a multiply layer spray off light yellow. To give that textured slightly vintage effect. I love how the face turned out. She's gorgeous to me! This is one beautiful crazy girl! Too bad she is obsessed with that Joker guy. About the face coloring process, it was all gradual. I was thinking this was gonna be a challenge. Usually, a face without white face paint, a normal face has different skin tones, I can paint and bring out the features easily. But Harley's make up face was a different thing altogether. I did not plan to add purplish mascara. At first, I was aiming for just shades of grey, just pasty white look. But as I went along, I thought why not experiment with different tones and hues of purple, blue, and grey. Mix it up. I think this mix brings out her features more.

X-Force in progress.

Originally, this was to be painted traditionally. But I had a change of thought. Digital is more versatile, I can do a lot of adjustments and redo and redo until I get the effect I want. Traditional media like water color or poster color, I get only 1 shot. If I mess up, that's it. I can't paint over it. I can't resize the anatomy, I can't change the perspective, just one shot and I can't mess up.

Anyhow, this is in progress, the grey tones were added to see how the effect comes along and I will do the full color after this.

I started with Wolverine, after that, followed by Psylocke, then, Archangel at the background with his wings spread out. Doing a team pin-up is more challenging than a single character pin up, because composition comes into play. How each character's pose interact with each other. With a character like Archangel, he is better placed at the3 background because of his massive wings. Put him in front, you block out all the others. Wolverine is placed in the middle, because he is the team leader. After that, I worked in Deadpool and Fantamax. I think I like Fantamax's pose the best. Still got the details to work in onto the costumes. For Psylocke, I wanted to give her that Asian ninja look. So, a short knive in front, and her sash is exaggerated a bit to have that Japanese Kunoichi flowing sash look.

Someone online asked me to draw Baroness from G.I.Joe. I watched the live action movie which starred Sienna Miller as the Baroness. I still like the cartoon Baroness better. In the movie, she didn't have the European accent. I liked that in the cartoon. I referenced an old G.I.Joe Baroness action figure blister card art, and added slight changes myself. I had to change the dorky big round glasses. That might have worked in the 80s, it's out of style now. The MP5 and hand gun were referenced from 1/6 scale plastic toy guns. I'm not done with this yet, I spent a whole day on it. My hand was cramped. I'm not fast enough, need more practice. The face underwent some changes, particularly the lips. I wanted her to have that little bit of a sadistic smile. Eventually, I want to add Cobra commander in the background and the Cobra flags.

I personally hand-drew these t-shirts myself.

Black t-shirt pigment water based markers on white cotton Northern Rock t-shirts.

Each is drawn in free hand, as I can't trace the artwork on the shirt, can't see through the shirt. Haha.

Hugh Jackman Wolverine, men's size L.

Batman, men's size M.

You got skill! But most of the ur works here look kinda unfinished.

And sorry to say, I'm not digging the shirt. Too plain and the image is haphazardly placed.

Eat Your Veggies, Soldier! Captain America pin-up. Pencil and then inked with Illustrator and colored with Photoshop. This is more of an animated-look Captain America. The features and anatomy are more simplified. But I tend to add details even when I'm aiming for simplified. Hence the details of muscles on the arms. The background was made using shapes in Photsoshop and sprayed dirt using Siya Oum's brushes. ^^

Captain America is supposed to be with other Avengers. I already penciled Thor and Iron Man. Just need to do them up and add them with Cap. ^^

Commission piece. Batman Begins. Client wanted a portrait of Christian Bale Batman in Batman Begins in monochromatic color scheme & Japanese Chirashi style; hence the Japanese text. Chirashis are mini movie posters. Popular in Japan and as collectors items. This is largely done in traditional media of water color, inks, pencil. Text and logo made with Adobe Illustrator. Some minor adjustments through photoshop. He's the goddamn Batman! ^^

I was thinking of what pose to do, and went with the generic flying pose. But I wanted to draw a Sentinel head somewhere in there, so I tried to imagine her having ripped off a Sentinel head, but still holding onto it and flies off. She will use it as an object to throw at other Sentinels, something like that.

I was using some references of X-Treme X-Men comics off the Internet. The one I used showed her on the cover with the headline :Savage Land. She had her red shades on, but I pushed them upwards on her head instead because I wanted to draw her eyes. I always felt eyes can convey more and look pretty.

Added on March 25, 2011, 11:08 pmI wanted to draw Teela from He-Man for a long time but didn't know how to start. Sorceress had always been my first choice. But never got around doing her. Oh well, I'll go for the lying down pose again. It's not quite finished yet, as you can see she's missing another arm. I decided to add all the little Orko figurines in there at the last minute. After a while, I thought, ah what the heck, let's add a little He-Man figurine toy in there too.

I had a lot of fun, I think Teela's face is the best I've done so far.

Many months ago I was very happy with how I did She-Ra's face, but I think this Teela's face is much better.

The armour bra does seem a bit low. Hmm.... maybe I'll fix that later. And add some shadows and shades of gray with photoshop.

I intend to colour it digitally later.I had been wanting to draw Wonder Woman for quite some time now. She is one of the trinity in DC. Top tier most well known heroes. The other 2 are Superman & Batman. I wanted to draw her as heroic. Proud, arrogant and powerful. Not as a slutty pornstar wannabe. Hence I added the little cape thingy on her, and made her look up. But I didn't want to make it a full cape, but rather like that of Power Girl or Captain Marvel; something like a mini cape. Recently, the DC Universe Online trailer impressed me a lot, so I drew my inspiration from that. The look was a specific in my mind. I was aiming to achieve that DCU Online look, a little bit of exotic look as seen in the trailer with thick eyelashes, and dark mascara and thick brows and specific skull/face structure/construct. Hmm.I didn't use that costume though or the DCU Online regular costume with Roman gladiator skirt. I borrowed the hairstyle though, and omitted the star earrings. Star earrings on an Amazon? Princess Diana is hardly the fashionable type. Ah,yes, the lasso. I wanted a dynamic lasso. It's magical, hence I imagined WW posing a stance with it while manipulating the lasso and goes whirling and zig zagging around her. The arms look 'short' because I was gunning for foreshortening.

Invisible Woman, first try above.

Later, I was going to try to fix the first Invisible Woman drawing. But I felt there were too many things to fix and I actually wanted to have her at a slightly different angle. The angle that shows her side more. So, I tried to rework it, starting all over again, and this time, I wanted to show the face more, not a profile shot. I never liked drawing profile shots. I feel it's weak.

So, here it is, I didn't use pencil to fill in the black on her gloves and boots.I used photoshop. So that if there's any fixing, I wouldn't have to rub like crazy with the eraser.

mmmm, your female anatomy need revise, boobs feel a bit weird (i know you not a fan of boobs but 90% men would look at boobs) & leg kinda thin a bit.

in my mind, superhero female got strong sexy leg. They have less muscle on their arm, neck, or abs but on their leg.

J .S.Campbell made his creator owned team of superspies called Danger Girls, and I was hooked from the start on this comic series. After about 7 or 9 issues, the story ended. Danger Girls did go on, and sometimes still get new stories, but Campbell doesn't draw them himself anymore. It's usually other people doing it.

Here's one of the DG girls, Natalia Kassle. Master with knives and she is Russian.

A client asked me to draw this Hawkman. Work in progress. Pencils and a bit of touch up with Photoshop. Based on rough draft by Ivan Reis I believe. Never thought I would find out so much about Hawkman by reading the Rann-Thanagar War series and Wikipedia. I always thought Hawkman and Kendra aka Hawkgirl were born with wings. But it turns out those are not biological wings. They are Nth Metal wings and can be detached from their backs. Interesting. Despite being technologically advanced, Thanagarians(Hawkman's race) prefer medieval weapons like swords, maces, shields, spears, arrows. For Thanagar!!!!!!!

Kotobukiya, a Japanese statue and collectibles company made a series of Marvel superheroines PVC statues called Marvel Bishoujo Girls. Bishoujo in Japanese means pretty young girls. The art style is very unique, as every piece is based on the artwork of Shunya Yamashita. Storm is not made yet. So I imagined, and I made this Storm, using Shunya Yamashita bishoujo style. Took longer than I thought. One day's work.

Thanks, the Hawkman Pin-Up 2 was amended according to client's request. At first, I made the thighs like that because basing it on reference art, Hawkman's pants seemed to have an angular thing inside on the sides of the thighs. But it has been changed to this. Shield also amended into Buckler and Hawkman's left wing feathers amended.

His pants look like Spartan's in this cover art. Spartan is the dude with white pants.

Thanks, guys.

Practice makes perfect. Keep drawing and painting a lot. Read books, read tutorials, go for classes. Watch photoshop /drawing tutorial videos online. Keep pushing. Draw all day. But then take some breaks, recharge, get inspiration, go for a walk, watch movie, play with your dog, cook for your girlfriend. Come back, draw again.

Cheers.

"Hulk smash planes! Planes leave Hulk alone!!!!!" Hulk, the loveable green giant. His catchphrase is 'Hulk Smash!' An unstoppable juggernaut powered by Gamma radiation. The thing about drawing Hulk is, you have to really make him look angry. Like really really pissed off. Here we have Hulk just making his way through a city, but some people just won't leave him alone. The trail of destruction is a by product of Hulk defending himself. For the jets, I liked F22 Raptors. The most powerful fighter jets and they look very cool. Suits Hulk.I use more shadows on this one. Personally, I like my drawings with less black areas. But people seem to like that heavy inking/shadows feel. Lastly, drawing windows on buildings is a pain! But enjoyable! Hulk Smash! (Pencils on 180gsm artblock paper, A3 size)

Babydoll from Sucker Punch pin up.
Work in progress.

The most fun part is always the drawing a girl's face. I used several photos from magazines and the Internet to get Emily Browning's face right. Costume and even the Japanese sword needed referencing to get all the details right. At first, hair pieces were more wavy and flowing to her right. But it didn't look like Babydoll's hairstyle. So, I toned it down. "Oh, and one more thing....this artwork is best enjoyed with Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks." (Pencil, artblock paper, A3 size, Photoshop coloring)

Haha. I prefer StarCraft to Red Alert.

-------------------------------------------

Yes, I drew on artblock paper, scanned, and then painted with Adobe Photoshop. Spent a lot of time smoothing digitally it because the paper I bought has a rough texture, it looks more like cardboard. I'll never use this type of paper again.

For the Russian Kremlin building, photos were taken off the internet, edited and slightly painted over with Photoshop. It is just temporarily. Eventually, I will repaint over the whole thing. I just found out that there are quite a few replicas of this famous building in the world. There is one in Turkey that looks almost exactly like the real thing from the outside, but is actually a hotel.

"In A Flash!" Trying different coloring techniques. A blend of traditional media and photoshop. Pencilled, inked, painted with water color, and repainted again with Photoshop. Hah! Anyhow, the fastest man in the world and probably the universe, The Flash! At first, I had too much lightning bolts all over the place. Went back in and erased those pesky bolts. Less is more. Background is a gradient added with Wind filter and distorted to polar form. Lastly, the little touch ups with the tablet pen. Sigh. Half a day's work depicting the Flash tapping into the Speed Force.

"Billy is not here, Captain Marvel is!" SHAZAM! The first time I read about Captain Marvel was through Kingdom Come by Alex Ross. I actually like Captain Marvel because he is actually just Billy, a little kid with a good heart. Whenever he cries the magic words 'Shazam!' he is transformed into a grown-up superhero.A4 size. Penciled, inked and then colored with photoshop using a Genius tablet. The face has gone through many changes in photoshop. Sure was fun doing this. Shazam!!! ^^

Back in 1998, I think I made a Star Craft mini poster colour painting. Back then, screen resolution at 800 x 600 was huge, so please excuse the small sized picture. I will try to rescan it....now where did I put my old artwork folder....?

Yah, scary hoh? haha. That's why she wore a Ghost mask in the first game most of the time until almost near the end of the game when she took off her mask.

Okaylah, scared you. Now to un-scare you. Have some X23. X23 is the female clone of Wolverine. Raised since birth to be the ultimate killing machine. She has no childhood, no love, no family warmth, and no friends because of her indoctrination and cruel trainings by her evil creators. Not your average teenage girl next door.

How do you hunt a Spiderman? With your tongue of course! Venom tongue. After I did the water color sketch of Venom in blue and red plus black inks, I felt I should do another one with a different pose and different style. So, I went for mix-media. Pencil, ink, diluted ink, pigment ink pens, correction pen fluid(never knew it could be used to do a painting, haha), and acrylic paint plus watercolor background. I'm gonna try more with correction pens or white paint markers next time. Quite happy with how the Gargoyle turned out. A simplified sculpt and more geometric streamlined design, and metal-ish effect instead of stone-material like surface/texture. "We hate Spiderman"-----Venom.

Added her "bust".
Small smile. Will try to make it more 'sly', and also will try the one-lifted-eyebrow. Remindss me of the people's(Dwayne The Rock Johnson) eye-brow though. ^^
Cat-ears adjusted positions.

Catsuit to be rendered more properly to reflect latex-catsuit.

The face has been amended around the brows, eyes, lips to look less like Audrey.

Hi. I have a Deadpool, but it is black and white and in a group shot(X-Force).

I will do a Deadpool pin-up in colour this weekend.

I have been drawing and painting all my life. But there was one time in my life, I tried to abandon art altogether and become a more scientific person. Hence I studied I.T. until advanced diploma level. But all that time, I couldn't resist holding a pencil or paintbrush, or a mouse(digital) and kept painting anyways during my free time. lol

Something different.

This was done for Color Studies class as a final assignment.

It is a reproduction of a famous artist's painting titled "Conquest of The Air." It was painted by Roger De La Fresnaye in 1913. It is exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_de_La_Fresnaye

Original was oil painting.
Mine is acrylic on cotton canvas.

Listened to Dhalsim's theme music from SFIV and watched some youtube videos of Dhalsom gameplay to get inspiration.

Dhalsim sketchcard.

Paint has not dried yet, so I just took a quick photo.

Acrylic and ink.

Painting on 2.5" X 3.5" is not easy. At this size, I needed very fine and small brush tips.
You have to steady your hand so that the lines are smooth and do not wobble or break off.

I'm trying out new colouring techniques. Cuts and gradients. A lot of tutorials to read.
Some artists are great artists but not so good teachers. They teach you Step 1, 2,3, then 6,7 and jump to 10. You get missing steps. Or sometimes, the instructions says do this and that. But what's the purpose? And what's the next step to do with it? Lol. I have to figure it out myself by cross-referencing. Dang it, so many magazines and How-To-Books to read, plus video tutorials. Phwooaaarrr......! ^^

I'm taking a digital drawing course right now and learning from professionals at De'Claz'Room.

It's really an eye opener as I am taught how to paint digitally. I used to find it hard to believe that anyone could finish a life like digital portrait of Johnny Depp in under 4 hours. I thought they had super fast computers with 8 GBs of Ram or something. But now I've seen how it is done and how it should be done, I believe it.

Having a tutor at De'Claz'Room show me the ropes is by far faster and easier than trolling through tutorial magazines and books as I find the instructions clearer and easier to follow. It's a lot of fun, and it opens the door to so much more possibilities. Finally, I will have a chance to paint like my online idols!

The above painting of a cherry was from a class exercise.
Note: My tutor helped me out with the painting.

Yes, Photoshop. I'm taking classes by professionals now. Previously, I was kind of like groping in the dark by myself. ^^

In statue painting and I suppose also in traditional airbrushing, masking literally putting strips of tape on your artwork to cover it, so that you only paint the parts you want.

But here, masking in Photoshop means that you create a layer, and click on create mask, and putting your foreground and background colours to black and white respectively. Click on the mask icon in the layer, and paint over the parts you don't want. For example, if I have a photo of ZhangZhiYi, I will mask and paint out her background. If I make a mistake, I switch foreground to white, and paint again, and the background will come back. Masking is a safe-method, because anytime you make mistakes, you can recover instead of using eraser tool.

I'm learning at ClazRoom, Damansara Perdana. They offer various courses to suit your needs and timetable. From short holiday courses, to short monthly courses and full time courses. Apart from teaching digital illustration and painting, you can also learn other things like character and concept design, 3D design and animation, and even traditional art like oil painting.

We are learning famous Taiwanese artist Der Jen's techniques at painting fair Asian maidens. My next class will be painting a classic Chinese maiden in olden traditional costume, a qipao, the kind worn by people of the royal court or even an empress.

Yeah, I'm going to paint her and I'm very eager to paint pretty girls. Hee hee. But first, I have to finish my class exercise of Classic Chinese Maiden.

For my exercise, I used the popular Beijing actress Yang Mi's face who shot to fame in 2011 with the HK/China drama called "Gong" /Palace set in the Qing dynasty. She's only 25 and already so famous. I think her face was also used on one of those China made online fantasy games set in medieval times promotional poster. In Gong, she plays a modern day girl who fickle somehow travelled back in time by accident to ancient China and lived in the royal court. Through all the hardship and evil political schemes she endured, she learned to cherish what is valuable in life. She also overcame many obstacles and dangerous situations during her time in the "past" by using her scientific knowledge of the future/modern world.

user posted image

This is one of her photos.

The one I used is another and superimposed on a different yellow empress/princess qipao.

Haha, thanks Shinkawa. I checked out your website to pick up some new otaku knowledge. I'm more of a Western comics guy. But I grew up reading Hong Kong Jademan comics/DragonBallZ and Japanese manga as well.

Yeah, Akuma is one of my favourite works. To do the illustration, I listened to all the Akuma theme music I could get from his classic SFZ2 theme to SF4. But the one I listened the most to get into Akuma's spirit was his roof-top intro from Capcom VS SNK2 and Shin Akuma's theme from CVS2.

I plan to try again with Chun Li with different technique and different eyes. ^^

I edited the face a bit more.
Previously, the eyes seemed a little bit further apart. Standard is "one eye" apart from each other.
Modified hair.
The previous one seemed like she had a bump on the head...that was because I was following the look of the Kotobukiya Supergirl statue.
Fixed eyes...pupils are bigger now.
Added more shadows and greyscale tones plus highlights to the lips.

Kara close up.

I better get back to my painting homework and leave Supergirl alone.

Hi Inachi,

I am impatient to color her too. But, I think she'll have to wait a bit to get colorized. My client wants her in black and white, and I have an upcoming possible job with a big client. Hopefully I land the job. ^^

Here's something new I did, experimenting with digital watercolor brushes.
Brush with texture was made by learning Dani Draws tutorial online. Then applied to different water color splatter brushes by Danny Tang. The splatters can be easily made by scanning in watercolor strokes on artblock paper and defining them as brushes through PS.

Will modify the coat to be burnt and tattered at the back edges.

Left hand could be holding severed Batman head.
Right arm holding short switchblade or short knife.
Or maybe a chainsaw to be unconvetional and more sinister.

Thanks, man. Since you're a graphic design/arts and design college student too....you can take a go at coloring my pieces if you like. smile.gif

There is this book by ImagineFX, a special edition magazine that teaches human anatomy as well as animal anatomy. Very interesting.

There are some parts of the human anatomy that they don't cover in detail, but they covered very thorougly on feet, hands, arms, legs etc.
When I was a kid, I loved robots and transformers. I drew lots and lots of Transformers until a girl in class said that I could only draw robots, then I diversified into drawing humans. And since I loved superheroes and comic characters, that's how I ended up drawing them a lot.

Haha, if you're talking about your own stuff as in college stuff, I know the feeling.....lots of exercise and assignments to do from college.
For me, the style of my college is to do everything in one week. It's very rushed.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I've been reading some books, while some professional artists say that you can maximize the performance of your PS by reducing the history state, some recommend that you have 20 states. The ones who say you can have little history states to undo is because "if you make that many mistakes and need to undo that many, you're not making good decisions as an artist to begin with......" oh well, that's what some say.

Anyhow, this only affects those with older machines like mine.
New PCs have monstrous amount of RAM and with Win7, the sky is the limit, just pop in more RAM.

I'm waiting for the launch of new processors from Intel this year to capitalize on new tech and faster speeds, before I buy a new PC.

-----------------------------------------------------

6-Feb-2011
I find this review by a reader on Amazon.com best describe what I want to say about some digital artist or graphic design books and magazines.
They don't really teach you anything, it says it does, but it really doesn't, most of what you get is just pages & pages of very beautiful prints of their work.

QUOTE
While the book and art are gorgeous, I wouldn't call it a "bible". There are simply no details in how he does his work. The back of the book even states "step by step demonstrations show you how to work with color, light, texture, and special effects in Photoshop and awe inspiring..." but his "step by step" consists of "step 1: do a sketch, step 2: refine it, step 3: refine it more", etc., until the image is done. There are no technical details such as "Here is how I draw straight lines" or "these are my brush settings" or "here is how I achieve this effect".

If you are wanting to see snapshots of how he works, this book is for you. If you are wanting to learn HOW to digitally paint, then I would look elsewhere.

You really need to sift out the not so helpful ones, and take only the helpful ones. I for one would not want to buy beautiful photobooks suitable for the coffee table, if I'm looking to learn step by step. ^^

This was done a long time ago. I wanted a sculptor to custom sculpt a Nina Williams for me. So I thought of drawing turn-around views of her.
I started by copying the Namco Nina Williams artwork, but then I stopped and never continued as the price of a custom statue was too expensive for me.

Yes, they were all cloned. I would die if I had to paint everyone of them. Lol. But I'm gonna use the Transform feature in Photoshop to twist, bend, reposition the Padis, change the colours slightly so they won't look like a bunch of Clone Troopers from Star Wars in a picture. smile.gif

Just wondering, did you painted the grapes?

The paddy field doesn't look chaotic/random enough imo. Seems too well arranged. But yeah, perhaps with more touchups and blur effects, they will look awesome. (Can imagine a lil already. Haha.)

Thanks. Yes, the grapes were painted. Including the little water drops.
First it was painted green, then colour manipulated into red. But after that, I still brushed it with different colours and strokes to make them a bit more different and distinct.

Rice Field painting update. I changed it to make the padi stalks more random at different directions. A little more touch ups to go. Will do the blurring for parts of the field going into the horizon to establish distance and space. And also some little bits of yellowing/browning on leaves tips.

The Witchblade, an ancient weapon of great power. Passed on from one bearer to another. It has a mind of its own and will only bond with the most worthy female of its choice. Said to be the offspring of the primal forces of the universe; darkness and light and therefore acts as a balance between the two entities, the Witchblade takes the form of a mystic gauntlet.

Sara Pezzini is both a tough New York City detective and the current wielder of the Witchblade.

The Doctor is in the house. He may be Strange, but he'll show you Love. Ok, Dr Strange is not like that. He is a very powerful magician. One of the most powerful in the Marvel Comics universe. I never really read much Dr Strange stories. I only saw him appear in some Avengers stories and X-Men stories. This is a commissioned artwork for a client in the USA. A5 sized artblock paper. Pencils, pen, sharpie, Pentel watercolor, pigment ink. I always give my best in my artwork. Even if it's a small piece, I would still put in my all for it. Because I want the person who has my artwork to be very pleased and happy with it.

Is he a handsome Doctor or what? I bet the girls swoon over him. And he knows magic tricks!

Why do you fail? Because you kept pushing forward, you kept making efforts. You did something. It's better than not doing anything. Tim Harford said that the more you fail, the more likely you are to succeed. He also showed in his book "Adapt" that the key to success is constant experimentation. We have to try new things with the knowledge that some will surely fail. And then we learn from there. We either make corrections/improvements or realize that it's a dead end and start something new but with better approaches and modifications based on our last failure. Tim Harford wrote the million-selling 'The Undercover Economist' and has won awards both for his Financial Times columns and BBC Radio show 'More or Less'. Tim's portrait was made by tracing his photo digitally and painting with photoshop. Reference photo was from http://www.littlebrown.co.uk/.

Artists always try to express themselves. If they can play and write music, they'll write a song. For me, I draw and paint. So, this was my way of expressing myself and also to practice. The word is "Zhan" 戰 in Chinese. It means "war" or "battle." Many of our lives are never ending battles. You just have to keep fighting. Fight the good fight. Fight for what you believe in. Elizabeth Braddock of the X-Men, she keeps fighting. Although sometimes she grew weary. Having forced to face the death of her brother, and then lose the man she loved, as well as almost sacrificing her own life to save a French man she doesn't love but loves her. Complicated. But, as a warrior in X-Force, she knows only one way. Zhan. (X-Force Psylocke pencils on artblock and edited with Photoshop. The face went through many revisions, as I just wasn't satisfied with how she looked.)

Selina Kyle work in progress. Face touched up. Smoothed, and added more tones to bring out facial features. Started work on leather outfit.Still working on her, but time for a short break. By the way, this is not the Anne Hathaway Selina Kyle. It was based on Adam Hughe's Catwoman and also inspired by the most beautiful and graceful classic actress Audrey Hepburn.

What a crazy talent!

Love how you do the lineart. They varies often, and not just in one same size for every single artwork. And I love how there's so much movement in some of the drawings here.

Question! What kind of tablet do you use to draw digitally?

Hi, Amipiai. Thanks. ^^

I try to vary my styles so that I can be versatile.
I think of being an artist as in being like a chef. A chef can cook in many different styles for many different cuisines.
So, I try to develop my own primary style, but at the same time, I also try to learn other styles. Haha.^^

I used to think I need a very large and expensive tablet with very high pressure sensitivity. Like an Intuous.

But I was shown & taught that I could achieve a lot even with a Wacom Bamboo Small.

Wacom Bamboo Small is what I use all the time now.

Having versatility in style huh. That's actually pretty cool. It's hard to find our own style to be honest. I'm more of a monotonous artist. My style is pretty much anime/manga-ish and I can't run away from that. lol. It's safe to say I'm envious of your skills.

I used to think of that too! Larger tablet will be better. But now I'm really satisfied with my Bamboo Pen. It's small and portable. And I've actually never heard of Bamboo Small hahah. Is it like, Bamboo Pen? Or is it Bamboo Fun?

Thanks for putting these artworks up anyway. Makes me want to go grab my tablet and draw. happy.gifb

I think you still have some improvements to go before you can joint the rank of .... Frank Cho, Adam Huges, Kim Jung-Gi...etc.

Primarily:
1) Drawings, your human figure proportion may be accurate, but lack variety of poses, a bit frosen (kaku) I feel.
1) Line work, a bit stiff and not clean in my opinion. e.g. Frank Cho's work should be your target of learning.
2) Coloring, most of them look messy.
3) Finished Art, most of the work here look unfinished, rough sketches, concept sketches are fine, but show some really finished works please. FINISHED ART means properly cleaned-up, properly painted/coloured arts.

Sorry if i'm too nick-picking here, but I think you got what it take to be the best! Just don't be complacent and keep improving.

I took the new drawing tool , Mediabang for a “test drive.” At first, I wanted to try it on drawing a Japanese castle. But on second thought, better try it on something smaller, like drawing a Tako-tako snack stall.

I gotta say, I enjoyed this new software. Previously, it would have taken me a long time just to draw something like this in Photoshop. Because in PS, I wouldn’t be “drawing” the lines. I would actually be “etching” the lines bit by bit to form long lines. So, it’s more like sculpting in 2D than really drawing. But with mediabang, it is just like drawing. I can draw faster and with better precision and anti-shake feature for my pens and brushes,so that I get smooth lines.

At first it was a bit daunting. I mean Mediabang’s website does provide many tutorials(in text, wish they had video too). But it wasn’t arranged in a linear way. The videos do have a few categories, but as a beginner like me, I went there and I didn’t know where to start!

So, I needed a plan. I figured out what I needed most first. The thing I had to know was how to start a canvas, how to set the dimensions, the resolution. The next thing I needed was how to put a photo in there so that I could trace. After that, I wanted pens, brushes settings.

The fun part for today’s try-out was that Mediabang has something Photoshop doesn’t, a set of different grids that could be rotated, adjusted and manipulated. They are like digital rulers on the canvas for me to draw straight lines, horizontally, vertically, diagonically….there was also elipse like tools for me to draw spheres, circles…etc. This is something so useful for illustrations, I’m not even sure if the latest PS CC has it. If it doesn’t, it should.

So, here is a quick review of Mediabang after trying it out to draw the tako stall you see here.

1. It’s easy to use, the tools, the concepts are pretty much the same as Photoshop.
2. For example, press B for brush, it has layers , you can merge layers by CTR+E, you can lock layers, you can control your brush size with “[” or “ ]” keys, you can grab and move your canvas by pressing spacebar. So it is pretty much the same as photoshop. Lasso selection tool, shapes tools, cut, paste…..If you’re a graphic designer, you’ll feel right at home.
3. Somethings I haven’t figured out yet…like what’s “bpp” for the images? Sometimes some shortcut keys don’t respond, so I had to use the mouse to click the tool on screen. Like the move with spacebar sometimes doesn’t work.
4. What’s “Ooze” setting for the brushes or pens? I only know it has a max setting of 5 or 0. At 5, your brush becomes dotted lines. But why call it “Ooze?”

There’s still a lot for me to explore, and I wish somebody would put together much better tutorials for Mediabang. It’s a great tool. If you’re an illustrator, or manga, or comic artist, this is definitely one of the good tools to use. Because, face it, using PS or AI alone ain’t gonna cut it. I know, those are the professional tools at every design agency, but it’s very slow for illustration purposes, especially if you want to do crisp and smooth line art. In Mediabang, just bring up the grids they call Snaps. You can immediately draw vanishing points, any straight lines for buildings and architecture….you can do buildings fast and like never before. So many ways to draw the lines, don’t want the grids? No problems, just click with your brush on one end, hold shift key, and click another end to form a straight line in any angle. So easy.

Plus, it even exports to .PSD file format. Hahaha. So whatever lines or work you’ve done in it, you can immediately do more work on it with the tools in PS if you want.

I used Mateusz Urbanowicz photoshop brushes to paint this. You can find the brushes here gumroad.com/mateusz_urbanowicz This is the first time I attempted to paint something like this. And, it is very very hard. I think I'll stop for a while before attempting anything like this again. Rest a bit. If not, the next environment or building painting is going to be very simplified to cut down on time spent.
I've recorded the entire process. I will have to speed up the video up to 30 times or more to squeeze the painting into 1 hour.
Video explaining how to paint this using Photoshop as a tutorial for my YouTube channel is ready to view.

Gifuya store in Nakano City, Tokyo is actually a tobacco specialist store that had been operating since 1949. I first thought it was a sundry shop because the inside of the shop showed lots of children's toys, junk food, candies, bumble gum, soft drinks & comic books. It's 1st & foremost a tobacco store, hence you see on the outside lots of signs that says たばこ (tabako). That's Japanese for tobacco. Yes, children are allowed to go in to buy all the other stuff except tobacco of course. Plus, the big blue banner that says ラムネ (Ramune) is actually the brand of famous Japanese softdrink. Ramune soft drinks was founded by Scottish pharmacist in Kobe in 1884. Now, Ramune is iconic also because of how the softdrinks are bottled in glass bottles. Each bottle has a marble inside! No, it's not for you to collect the marble. The company designed the bottles since long long ago to have the marble inside to seal the softdrink. The carbon dioxide from the softdrink pushes the marble upwards to the bottle neck, hence sealing the drink. Each bottle is equipped with a special plastic tool to push the marble down. That's how you open it and drink from
