![]() ![]() Listened to Dhalsim's theme music from SFIV and watched some youtube videos of Dhalsom gameplay to get inspiration. Dhalsim sketchcard. Paint has not dried yet, so I just took a quick photo. Acrylic and ink. Painting on 2.5" X 3.5" is not easy. At this size, I needed very fine and small brush tips. You have to steady your hand so that the lines are smooth and do not wobble or break off. This post has been edited by demonhunter360: Oct 13 2011, 05:29 PM |

I haven't found the time to finish my half-painted BlackCat on Page 1.
But I did make a black and white BlackCat some time ago. ![]() ---------------------------------------- ![]() I'm trying out new colouring techniques. Cuts and gradients. A lot of tutorials to read. Some artists are great artists but not so good teachers. They teach you Step 1, 2,3, then 6,7 and jump to 10. You get missing steps. Or sometimes, the instructions says do this and that. But what's the purpose? And what's the next step to do with it? Lol. I have to figure it out myself by cross-referencing. Dang it, so many magazines and How-To-Books to read, plus video tutorials. Phwooaaarrr......! ^^ |

I never really drew a Mortal Kombat character before. But I watched the movies and played the games and I like SubZero, Scorpion, Sonya and Kitana. :-P
I'll get around doing a Kitana later. But first, I need to finish customers' artwork. ------------------------------ Hulk commission draft. ![]() Customer wanted Hulk in American Football jersey and with a tiger. This post has been edited by demonhunter360: Nov 9 2011, 12:57 AM |

![]() I'm taking a digital drawing course right now and learning from professionals at De'Claz'Room. It's really an eye opener as I am taught how to paint digitally. I used to find it hard to believe that anyone could finish a life like digital portrait of Johnny Depp in under 4 hours. I thought they had super fast computers with 8 GBs of Ram or something. But now I've seen how it is done and how it should be done, I believe it. Having a tutor at De'Claz'Room show me the ropes is by far faster and easier than trolling through tutorial magazines and books as I find the instructions clearer and easier to follow. It's a lot of fun, and it opens the door to so much more possibilities. Finally, I will have a chance to paint like my online idols! The above painting of a cherry was from a class exercise. Note: My tutor helped me out with the painting. This post has been edited by demonhunter360: Nov 26 2011, 02:32 PM |

![]() Guess who? Exercise from digital painting class. It's a lot of work and I still want to work on it, like on the ears, and also getting the texture right for the jacket. Gonna look for textures online. Made with Wacom Bamboo Small and Photoshop CS5. Note: My tutor helped me with this painting. |

Gmruleme, thank you.
I'm still undergoing training, not officially working yet. But I have been lucky to get some freelance design jobs like business name card designs, book cover, product packaging illustration (local), and comic artwork commissions from overseas. There is still so much more for me to learn. ^^ |

Yes, Photoshop. I'm taking classes by professionals now. Previously, I was kind of like groping in the dark by myself. ^^
In statue painting and I suppose also in traditional airbrushing, masking literally putting strips of tape on your artwork to cover it, so that you only paint the parts you want. But here, masking in Photoshop means that you create a layer, and click on create mask, and putting your foreground and background colours to black and white respectively. Click on the mask icon in the layer, and paint over the parts you don't want. For example, if I have a photo of ZhangZhiYi, I will mask and paint out her background. If I make a mistake, I switch foreground to white, and paint again, and the background will come back. Masking is a safe-method, because anytime you make mistakes, you can recover instead of using eraser tool. This post has been edited by demonhunter360: Dec 18 2011, 10:51 PM |

I'm learning at ClazRoom, Damansara Perdana. They offer various courses to suit your needs and timetable. From short holiday courses, to short monthly courses and full time courses. Apart from teaching digital illustration and painting, you can also learn other things like character and concept design, 3D design and animation, and even traditional art like oil painting.
Added on December 18, 2011, 11:02 pm QUOTE(inachi @ Dec 18 2011, 11:01 PM) yeah masking is definitely a nice way to paint sumtimes..can just use black and white to hide and show things anytime.. Yes, I'm learning at ClazRoom and I'm so glad I found them. ^^btw, it looks like clazroom style..are u with them now? We are learning famous Taiwanese artist Der Jen's techniques at painting fair Asian maidens. My next class will be painting a classic Chinese maiden in olden traditional costume, a qipao, the kind worn by people of the royal court or even an empress.
