as long as you can go into download mode, you are safe.

2.3.3 meaning xxjvk or miui? which instructions are you following? which step?

MIUI RC2:

- upon rebooting, all my apps from previous rom begins installing. this causes a lot of lags. I had the same experinece with cm7 as well. Once everything is installed, I was able to explore miui.
- interface looks nice, a lot more polished. but there's some problem with white link on white background.
- i experience some choppiness in the interface
- wifi strength is lower
- got corrupted IMEI and no baseband.
- changed kernel to bilbao and try to restore efs using rootexplorer but failed. It says insufficient space left in that partition
- tried to flash modem by cwm, link from cm7 page. but baseband is still not there
- thus cannot make & recieve calls. girlfriend is angry.
- will wait for the next cm7 release

XXJVK:
- looks the same as xsjpj
- wifi strength looks low as well
- tried to root using fuguroot. but stuck in odin at param.lfs. Got soft brick mad.gif , re-flashed XXJVK. rclxub.gif

LOL.. that's what refrained me from flashing CM7 and MIUI. Gonna wait for real stable CM7

for ur baseband issue, thought u shld flash beta 6 first? as RC2 is an update
*
Yup, read in the posts but it is not in the first page. that's why I skipped that step. miui rc2 is nowhere near a release candidate status. it should still be labeled as a beta.

QUOTE(mruzian @ Mar 29 2011, 09:16 PM)
can someone teach me how to extract zImage from stock rom and zip it back?
i tried many times, but still fail when at Odin. flashing the kernel sumhow not moving/finished (waiting more than 5 mins....so i tought it hang)

really need help  icon_question.gif
*
You need 7zip http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z920.exe to get zimage. then create a .tar file using 7zip and put that zimage inside.

I tried twice rooting by fuguroot and still fail. will try another method

Update: I was trying to reflash xxjvk when my desktop suddenly shuts by itself! I was worried about bootloader corruption. luckily I still can go into download mode! Now i've finished flashing xxjvk for the third time sweat.gif

- successfully rooted with cf-root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...150&postcount=5 (download the jvk one)
- good thing about cf-root is that you don't need to reflash stock xxjvk kernel.

*
I feel it is stable enough for daily use. Battery dropped 1% over 3.5 hours only! Feels a lot more stable than miui. Better to wait until cm7 is more complete.

A bit scared to try XXJVK or MIUI until they are more stable...

But I still hate Simply Galaxy Swype black keyboard...sigh

Can replace swype keyboard from insanity rom found in the thread's first page.

hihi, thanks for your response!

for the stock kernel comment: you want to use stock 2.2 or 2.2.1? using software '7zip' ..extract zImage, create tar file and flash using Odin

actually i want to use stock 2.2.1, but so far only can find 2.2.1 I9000ZSJPJ. my phone build is froyo.dxjpe. so should use back dxjpe right?

actually.. where to extract zImage from? tongue.gif from the tar file of the firmware? sorry, first time doing this.

what is NAND also? is it something like titanium backup? i'm using titanium backup currently.
*
If localisation is not important and not sending back for warranty claim, better to flash 2.2.1 firmware like zsjpj

guys, what version u're xxjvk right now? is it the with bootloader or w/out? i want to try the xxjvk rom too since the miui still not really stable for me, but kinda confuse how to chose one. and if we're already in xxjvk, can we flash back to eclair and froyo without having those corrupted screen?
*
- I flashed with the updated bootloader.
- Can flash back to eclair or froyo but need to downgrade the bootloader. To know if you are downgrading, see in the the downloaded rom has "Sbl.bin" file. For example, ZSJPJ firmware I downloaded from samfirmware has this. I've tested this and it works.

mengsuan, im about to root my jvk with cf-root. is it okay if i flash the zImage in .tar format with odin? i just extract the zimage, and right click to it with 7zip to add archive to .tar, then it have zImage.tar in properties. im good to go already?
*
Rooting with cf-root http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=41132114
No need to extract anything, just flash cf-root by odin

i wanna flash to xxjvk but really confusing now. i should flash with or without bottloaders? do i need to root first? i never root my phone and now on stock rom zsjpj. need help!!!
*
- no need to root first if you don't want to:
1. Backup /efs folder - Recommended, so that you won't lose your IMEI number. See first page for backing up IMEi number using sgstools
2. Backup apps & data - using titanium backup

9. Hardware accelerated browser. But Opera Mobile capability already exceed this.  rclxms.gif

For me, opera mobile doesn't work as well as in froyo, I can see checkerbox

I may miss other queries, hopefully others can fill in.

I got soft brick using fuguroot as well. I flashed back to zsjpj, since it has Sbl.bin file (downgrade bootloader) then re-flash xxjvk and root with cf-root.

I put up a guide on the first page for XXJVK. please comment if you guys want to add/change/correct anything.

Hi gmhafiz,

After I flashed to Insanity Rom, I can't view Videos or listen to Music because there is no Video or Music player.

I tried to use both the Nitrality function and also tried downloading the .apk file from Insanity thread but couldn't get it installed. It reads Installation not successful.

Any ideas why?

Any recommended alternatives video player and music player from Market?

Thanks
*
That's odd. I never have that problem. Try clearing dalvik cache from recovery mode. You can always use ezbase for a clean start.

I use moboplayer, tunewiki and mixzing, link at first page.

Not to mention trojanuk as well! He intended his rom for experienced users only. but he has since removed that from the first post.

Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* to open it.
I found out that it will drain ur battery if u open it. Task killer will not close it. I restart my phone after i use it so that it will not drain battery.
*
nice find thumbup.gif it has replaced lbstestmode.apk. angrygps.apk sounds nicer!

Remember that flashing is a dangerous process, be it official means using kies, odin or CWM. It is preferable to use a laptop to prevent soft brick in case of a sudden power cut during flashing. Make sure your phone is fully charged too.

1. Make sure you have 3 button combo working (download and recovery mode). If it isn't, go here or here for the fix.

2. backup /efs folder. This is to preserve your IMEI number. Once backed up, copy it to safe place like your computer. You need to have a rooted device. If you haven't rooted it, follow the instruction in #3 (installing speedmod kernel). Installing that kernel will give you root access and you can now follow the efs backup procedure.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

(2)
This means you are either still on eclair (2.1) or froyo. You have not altered your phone by odin yet. Proceed to the next step.

(3)
- Follow this excellent guide http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010...to-install.html
- Installing this speedmod kernel will automatically give you clockworkmod (CWM) recovery. This will allow flashing zip files such as the sweethoney rom.

(4)
- If you have flashed XXJVK rom and used the updated bootloader, you need to downgrade the bootloader first
- Just download any firmware that has "Sbl.bin" in it to downgrade the bootloader. For example, ZSJPJ rom has the file. I have tested this rom and it works. http://hotfile.com/dl/110924408/c576fa2/I9000ZSJPJ.rar.html (Extract the file. Password is "samfirmware.com")
- Whether you are on XXJVK, cyanogenmod7 or MIUI, you must flash back to stock froyo rom.

(5)
- Follow this excellent guide: http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2011...tall-froyo.html
- This will give an official stock firmware.

(6)
- Go to the sweethoney rom page
- Download either wipe or non-wipe version and store it into your sdcard
-- choose wipe version if you are installing for the first time
-- choose non-wipe of you are upgrading from the same sweethoney rom
- Go to recovery mode. Choose "install zip file from sdcard" and "choose zip from sdcard". Navigate using volume rocker to your file. Use back button to select.
- Confirm the selection.
- Wait for a few minutes
- Wipe Dalvik and Wipe Cache
- Reboot.
- Done. Enjoy your new custom rom!

- I chose sweethoney because it is fast (JPJ based) and has beautiful theme. It'll surely appeal to beginners.
- I chose speedmod kernel to root as we know it is a surefire way to successfully root a device. z4root or superoneclick may be easier but we already have a reliable means of rooting - speedmod kernel.
- Comments please. anything I should add/remove? Or I am totally wrong sweat.gif

Added on March 31, 2011, 10:31 pm(6)
Edit: i forgot to add backup instruction

-Hold on to your horses! Have you made a backup?
-- Phonebook & email: Synchronise with google.
-- apps and data: can use Titanium Backup
-- SMS and MMS: can use SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel

- Ok now you can continue smile.gif

Hi Bugeca,

Thanks for your advice. It works. Now I got back the Music and Video player.

Those files are in apk, so I can put in System/App.

However, the files I downloaded from the same Insanity thread for Screen Capture service and Samsung Apps are in .zip.

I tried flashing via CWM but it got stuck. I don't think I can put in System/ App because  the format is not in apk...

Any ideas?

Thanks
*
You should just use nitrality to do this. I just did and have no problems. Not sure where you got the files in zip but everything you need should be in http://insanity.rollus.net/. Open up the zip file, extract the apk file and put it inside /system/app
