QUOTE(mengsuan @ Mar 29 2011, 09:12 PM) That is original thread of XXJVK. Samsung is hunting down that person. How to tar the zImage? Just rename right?Added on March 29, 2011, 8:13 pm You must flash back to original kernel after rooting. Remember I said, extract zimage then tar the zimage? I extracted the zimage and rename to zImage-new.tar. Then flash after fugu root flash.. But still cannot boot.. I realized that the download bar never start, just straight away go to RESET, maybe that is why the ori zimage is not flashed and I can't reboot. QUOTE(silentser @ Mar 29 2011, 10:05 PM) erm.... you DONT extracted the zImage out of the .tar you have, that .tar is different than normal i think. Ic. Get it now, I thought just extract it out from the PDA. No wonder doesn't work. Thanks bro...open the rom.tar with 7zip, and delete OTHER than the zImage, that mean only zImage is left in the .tar, and then just close it. and flash using that. remember to duplicate the rom.tar first before making any deletion |

QUOTE(mengsuan @ Mar 29 2011, 10:33 PM) Yea. Gingerbread is really snappy and fast. It sets SGS to the way it should be in the first place.... Confirm wifi signal is lower than JS8. GPS is good and fast lock, camera works! So far so good, still testing the new ROM. I leave the CSC at KOR and set APN manually. Next step is to get back CWM. Any custom kernel to recommend that is compatible with JVK ROM? |

QUOTE(gmhafiz @ Mar 30 2011, 12:18 PM) Impressive. Certain UI elements feel smoother than froyo. The only thing missing are enhancements found in a custom rom I am impressed as well with the batt life. Yea, I miss the dark theme of android market and the dark transparent curtain of the notification area. I'm following supercurio's twitter. Seems like he hasn't got any reply from samsung. But I'm not aware that locking bootloader infringes on gpl licence. If it does, we can expect lawsuit on companies locking it. Locking bootloader is actually not a bad thing. It will help increase security considering many viruses are bound to surface in near future that can steal data and do serious damage to phone system. Yea, it is bad for custom ROMs and rooted apps since the early versions already give way to many innovation on this part. That is why I prefer the way Sony is moving in their future direction, which allows users the option to lock and unlock the bootloader in their xperia series. On the other note, whether bootloader is locked or not, someone somewhere will figure a way to hack into it somehow. Just take an example of iOS. |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Mar 30 2011, 11:49 PM) Wanna ask, need to do a phone wipe first before flashing this ROM? Never thought of wiping before. I straight away flashed from Simply ROM. But I think it is advisable to wipe first so to have a clean install.Previously when I does Eclair -> Froyo using Kies, phone can't boot without doing wiping at recovery. |

A short review of XXJVK aka "Leaked Offiical Gingerbread"
1. Fast and snappy. Feels like custom Froyo ROM but I don't feel it can beat custom Froyo (yet). 2. Experience quite a number of apps FC due to not very compatible with Gingerbread ROM yet I think. Will improve over time. 3. Swiping homescreen and app drawer generally are smooth, but sometimes do feel certain lag when I tried to swipe and some background tasks running at the same time (for eg. push email, scanning SD card, updating fb, etc) 4. GPS is very good, better than when I was on Simply ROM. Can lock fast and accurately (even without data on) 5. Wifi is fine, but the signal is lower compare to before, but this is probably due to the wifi signal is fine tune in Gingerbread to be more accurate. 6. Voice recognition improve greatly (I feel). Much more accurate now. 7. Battery life is good. Better I think. 8. New features in settings like the battery graph above. 9. Hardware accelerated browser. But Opera Mobile capability already exceed this. This post has been edited by lch78: Mar 30 2011, 11:56 PM |

QUOTE(freakfingers12 @ Mar 31 2011, 12:41 AM) What are the apps that FCed from your experience? Cannot work: spare parts, galaxy tuner.Last time when I was on JV1, almost every single game FCs. That sucked! Sometimes: Handcent SMS, Samsung Email, Widgetsoid. The above are what I discovered so far. Tested and OK: Waze, Angry birds series, Fruit ninja, ES File Manager, Whatsapp, Beluga, Facebook, Colorize Widget, NoLED, Opera Mobile, Plume, etc. Added on March 30, 2011, 11:53 pm QUOTE(nasrulbond @ Mar 31 2011, 12:44 AM) QUOTE(Harddisk @ Mar 31 2011, 12:50 AM) Yes usable. QUOTE(pcboy @ Mar 31 2011, 04:01 AM) i also got FC on certain apps on XWJVK after restore using MyBackup Pro.. but after uninstall then reinstall, it solves the problem.. i can use Spare Parts, Guerrilla Bros, PES2011, Handset SMS etc.. no FC on any app at all Yea. Restoring everything from Titanum Backup seems to be the problem. I restore apps+data and it seems that some old settings are not compatible with Gingerbread and cause the FCs. |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Mar 31 2011, 11:03 AM) Frankly speaking, despite flashed to Ginger already, it's still not as responsive and smooth as the Nexus S (AOSP) I tried. Is it the early lags? means that when you want to use the phone the first time from screen off, you feel some jerks or lags swiping screens, opening apps, etc? But after 3 secs, everything is smooth again..Could it be ours were bloated with Samsung stuff? |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Mar 31 2011, 11:11 AM) Not the booting up lag. Left the phone on overnight, but in Flight mode. I think nexus s running on ext4 fs. SGS gingerbread is still on RFS fs. I like to blame on RFS for the lags.... It's the already warmed up use kind of lag. It just not like the Nexus S that I felt. Lacked of responsiveness. |
