i think also credit goes to Chuah for stream lining all this info to be easier to read.
He is better at summarizing than i am :} so kudos for that. PS: Chuah plz updated my Ducky to "Ducky Dk-9008 Tiger Limited Edition (Cherry mx Brown, with a Cherry mx Clear spacebar). This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Mar 22 2011, 10:58 AM |

been using mechanical keyboard (cherry mx brown switch) for a few months now.
I'm more comfortable typing now. Not to say i can't type with a cheap rubber dome, but i do think it was a worth while investment since i am using the keyboard all the time. But is there a difference between say a 300 and 500 ringgit mech keyboard ? if they are both the same switches probably not (assuming they are both plate mounted. if one is pcb mounted, and the other is plate mounted maybe yes, but even then not much moan about). The only big difference may be the keycaps whether they are silk screen/pad printed; lasered; double shot or dye sublimated. I did pay more for double shot and dye sub keys because i wanted a durable keyboard with high contrast letters that were durable and won't fade. So you get what you pay for :] This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Apr 16 2011, 02:26 AM |

well i haven't been playing o2jam much so haven't noticed the need for NKRO.
Good keyboards usually have 6kro which is sufficient for 99% for most things. So don't be too worried about that. Only if your a perfectionist fuss pot such as myself then yeah go for nkro board I was worried that maybe next time i upgrade my motherboard there won't be a ps2 port, thats why i got the usb nkro version instead which is future proof. I don't want to buy another mech keyboard since this is a one time investment So i'm pretty much future proof. The only thing that may wear is the switches, but this may take ages, and even then easily replaceable by buying the springs and change swapping them. |

Asus has a typing contest to win prizes.
Top 3 people with highest score wins good prizes. How the game works is, using keyboard, type the corresponding words and numbers to keep your virtual car speeding. Typos and slow typing will result in a slower car. |

I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive :/ taking a long time.
Double shots cost 100+ by themselves which i bought separately :/ To me the high contrast and durability was worth it. Now i'm using dye subs though instead which had slightly less contrast, but way better durability :} |

I read a lot about these Leopolds. They do indeed look good.
The only thing i'm not sure is whether it has usb nkro, also whether you can disable the windows keys like the ducky does. other than that, the leopold looks more refined than the ducky i would think |

dk-9008 has usb on the cable. you need to attach the usb to ps2 adapter and make sure your motherboard has a ps2 port before you can use nkro.
as long as your mobo has a ps2 port, it's no different than mine. the thing is, when you go lanning, the other desktop must also have ps2 port on the mobo or you don't have nkro. The same goes for new motherboards in the future especially those with UEFI's on them. I'm unsure whether they will keep ps2 ports on them or not. Usb seems to be long lived so no worry about there not being usb ports. Then again the usb 6kro is already good enough for 99% for pc usage Anyway for that price i think it's for the black on black ducky. The keycaps probably not as good as the lasered version to be honest. if you wanted the lasered ducky probably will cost you extra. PS: regarding the leopold, word of caution. The spacebar is not standard so when buying whole keycap sets, the spacebar may not fit if using another one. So if you intend to use a different keycap set, make sure the caps are black, and text is white, so the default leopold spacebar does not look out of place. The default leopold spacebar should be good seeing as it is PBT so no shiny spacebar. |

QUOTE(zandara @ Apr 25 2011, 10:27 PM) Personally like Filco, which im using to type here now. I had just ordered Ducky DK9000 blue switch instead of Filco because of the price, and i found out that i need that media keys and windows key lock badly. You can try get a key locker. You open a keycap, and slot in the plastic key locker instead. |

QUOTE(TechnoG @ May 9 2011, 02:54 PM) was looking at 6Gv2, ventured into mech switches. Well you and i both. I finally settled on a Ducky DK-9008G2 Tiger limited edition with usb nkro. Then someone recommended Celeritas but somehow ended with hunting for Ducky But i know you want a budget version. There should be a few Probably should set your budget to Rm300 minimum though This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 9 2011, 06:19 PM |

oddly enough, the geekhack bulk order; signature plastic said PBT and ABS is the same price .... hm....
so my keychain i got the pbt version. for the keycaps however, i got the abs. Pbt would be nicer, but sadly the keycap molds they had were for abs or some other reason i forgot what exactly. |

QUOTE(Iphone4Lover @ May 15 2011, 09:34 PM) oh yeah. now i remember. the reason we didnt get the pbt version for caps was because double shots are not supported for pbt.pbt dye sublimated is supporter but is 4 times the price compared to abs double shots. at home i got 2 different sets of keycaps. one is abs double shots; and the other is dye sublimated pbt keycaps. abs double shot Pros: very high contrast, doesn't wear Cons: abs material will yellow faster than pbt. can suffer from shine eventually after some usage. dye sublimated Pros: high contrast, but slightly lower compared to double shots. pbt doesn't shine or yellow as much as abs, thus they are much better preserved over a long period of time. Cons: dye subs have good contrast if its black on white caps and vice versa, however if its dark with slightly darker colors like Topre keyboard keycaps; the contrast isn't as good. pbt may be more susceptible to yellowing under direct sunlight and UV; so be sure to put it in a shady place which shouldn't be a problem as people have their gear indoors anyway. QUOTE(Iphone4Lover @ May 17 2011, 12:20 AM) Yup, theoritically the most durable printing method will be Doubleshots, Dye Sub and may be those engraved blank keycaps. Also not only is the font wear to worry about, but also shiny keycaps, and also yellowing of the plastic material. To wear out those fonts require you to wear out the keycaps itself at the same time, thus they are very durable(though if the keycaps itself is not durable will also cause those fonts to be wore out) I've seen a shiny double shot before, it's more obvious in lighted environments. Looks oily slick kinda of shiny. That is why i use my dye sub pbt keycaps. No shine, no wear and no yellowing This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 17 2011, 02:00 AM |
