My explanation is:
if you buy 1 normal keyboard, RM30. If e a rubber dome on the membrane died, the whole board is dead. RM30 gone.
if you buy mechanical keyboard, RM300++. If a switch died, all you need is just a switch. RM5 or less per switch depending on the color.
MEchanical keyboard ftw. thumbup.gif
*
keyboards don't die easily anyway.
The easiest way to poison anyone is let them use your keyboard for 3 or 4 days, and ask it back and leave them to their cheap rubber domes, though you need to let them try browns or reds, since the difference is more pronounced.

lucidlts did give them a lesson...now they know the beauty of a mechanical keyboard...
*
Now now, that's not a way for mechanical keyboard enthusiast to behave.
They have no idea of the existence of mechanical keyboards, so it was a normal and expected reaction if you show this the keyboard to them.
But their reaction was still, Golden.

So. I'm in taiwan now. and I went to a small computer shop. and guess what.... on the racks. ITS A DAS ULTIMATE KEYBOARD!!!!  rclxm9.gif

I was just going to buy it when I found out they don't accept credit card (No cash with me)  cry.gif

So I ended up with some Taiwanese mechanical keyboard because I can't find any other shop selling Das Keyboards.

Also the Taiwanese keyboard uses a black switch. Not tactile enough, or should I say  NO TACTILITY AT ALL.
*
What brand did you bought?
Yes, black switch are not tactile

If you want tactile, the options are, Model M, Model F, ALPS varations, MX Blues, Browns and Clears.
Bring it back to the shop. I am not sure about Taiwan but maybe they have a return policy. Or maybe you can do something like they do in Lowyat, exchange for something similar or higher in price.

Maybe you can tell us your budget and you can make a decision on a keyboard before you come back.

What I got is an iOne Scorpius-M10. I've googled about it and most of the results say it has a Blue switch. But the one I got is black.  rclxub.gif

But I'm still happy because I got it under RM300.
*
Since you are happy with it, so be it.
It seems that the Black switch iOne is priced the highest for one reason or another.
The blue switch cost less than Rm200 in Armygroup

All the sudden I am attracted by the Tenkeyless form factor. But the distro only bring in fullsized Red Switch, buying from Armygroup cost a lot of money to get it shipped, plus it only has the Chinese keycaps in stock.

I guess I'll wait for Cyclone's Leopold with Reds

I'm abit confused bout the keycap on this model.  icon_question.gif

It's black on black? Or engraved? It comes with a black on black and free 1 engraved set?  hmm.gif
*
Black on black with free another set of black on black keyset
I'd take the cheaper NT$2590 version though, you can get a set of Black on blacks from taobao for about the price difference.

not sure if they are willing to accept Malaysia Credit card, I have a friend in Taiwan now..

I should design a switch, please wash, clean, dry, and apply antiseptic before you can activate the keyboard. In any means, no food in 10 feet radius of this keyboard.

I think it's the same keyboard as Ducky 9008 with only white layout.
Dillema that 9008v2 only cos 2990NT compared to this white ducky @ 3390NT..

Do I really need the USB NKRO? I have no problem getting a PS2 port since it will be connected to a desktop, anyhow 6KRO over USB is also perfectly fine..
On the other hand red switch 9008v2 cost 3590NT..  not sure if I would like it since I really like clicky sound

Poison?

Red switches are non clicky. Maybe you can support Cyclone with his red switch sale. I do hope that it is coming in since he was talking about shipping fees now instead of the delays that he has been dealing with

As to the keycaps for the ducky, you can probably replace them with White engraved PBT, which takes forever to turn yellow. FYI, Model M keys are of PBT type. 99% of them age well. If you think that buying the white keyboard would result you into putting it in a Shelf framed in acrylic, then don't buy it, since there's really no point in buying a keyboard and then keep it, unless you are a collector?

*
Depends on how they package it. Shipping weight is less, but depending on volumetric weight, it might exceed 2kg
PCHOME shipment with a lot of bublewrap comes up to be more than 2kg in terms of volumetric. Not sure how taobao sellers package their things

I dont think any mechanical keyboard will ever use volumetric weight when shipping as the ''density'' is definitely quite high compared to other stuffs like cloth which certainly will use volumetric weight.

Taobao seller's packaging is full of uncertainty. Some is nicely packed and some packed yet still get smashed. For a keyboard, i think better standby like 400-500g of extra packaging weight for it.

Though, someone here who bought Ducky 1008+wrist rest manage to keep it below 2kg though(1.9kg).

Added on May 5, 2011, 6:38 pmHere you are, from WIKIPEDIA

The result of this calculation is that if a consignment's density is one-sixth that of water or more, then its volumetric weight is less than the normal weight in kilograms, whereas if its density is less than one-sixth that of water, then its volumetric weight is more than its weight in kilograms. Transport and postal companies will charge based on the greater of these two calculations.
*
The fact remains, my 2 shipments from PCHOME had a volumetric weight of 2.19kg listed as the weight in the shipping label.
But then again, they are generous with the bubble wrap

whats the diff of 9000 and 1008 (laser)? other than the multimediakey. the price diff is only rm20. 1008 (non laser) is like rm40 cheaper than 9000. anyway, i just need to know whats the significant diff of 9 series and 1 series.

if BMW you know 5 series is bigger and more comfy than 3 series. but for keyboard, other than keycap printing, i cant find other measures.
*
Better build, 1 piece front panel, instead of two piece.
Plus you can see the PCB for the 1008 series.

which means the typing experience will probably be the same. just that 9 series will tahan longer?
*
For the price difference I'd take the DK900x series
The 1 and the 9 series are built by different manufacturer, and there are some complaints on the built quality, especially the 1087 at the Geekhack, but the 1008 I previously got was alright. I cannot tell the difference in typing experience

i believe the problem would be the pricing.
What material they use? double shot?
Based $40 USD for 78 Key, not yet adding ctrl, alt, shift, and numbpad AND Arrow Key.

if full 104 key set.. (cheapest if 50 order fufiled)
40 + 9 + 7 + 15.50 = 71.5 USD conversion to MYR = RM214.5 (shipping not included)

what if only 30 people ordering?
40+15+10+21.50 = 86.5 USD conversion to MYR = RM259.5 (shipping not included)

no offense but i shitbrick when i saw the price.
*
Price is definitely high
Keycaps are doubleshot manufactured by Signature Plastics
They are about 33 people now. It should reach 50 soon enough.

I guess most people just put it in their tenkeyless board since the Logo might spoil the look.

you did not explain as detailed as this sad.gif

I think imma get 9000G2. I'm not that keen on extra multimedia keys, doesn't make sense on me imho.

what about Lepold? should I wait for it or just go ahead and grab 9000G2? gonna purchase it next week or the following week.
*
As to leopolds, you'll need Cyclone's opinion as he has both the Ducky and the Leopold
Note that the price of the leopolds is higher than the Duckies. I guess you can use the Leopold MO pricing at VR Zone as a benchmark, but I wouldn't say that it is the real price. But, it should be the price range that you would be paying when it comes in eventually, fingers crossed.
