Sorry for asking guys. Currently which card gives the highest rebates on petrol? My monthly petrol bills less than rm500. I've been using cash all these while.
*
If you are talking about Petrol alone, Maybank 2 Card gives you the most with its Amex as they have 5% solid cash back + 5xTP, but the cash back is capped at RM50 (RM500 will give you RM25), so if you are spending more than RM1000 a month, you might want to consider pairing it up with a OCBC Titanium as well.

I don't quite agree with you and you got the calculation a bit wrong up there. The total cashback for the RHB card if petrol pumped on weekend taken into consideration is RM100 would be RM400x20%-10%=RM8 for the first weekend plus 3 more weekends of 5%=RM15 totaled up to RM23 cashback for one month compare to M2CC RM20. While your reasoning M2CC offers more benefit which I quite agree as RHB lost hands down on the 5X TP, RHB ones gives quite a pretty solid cashback. Bare in mind that the 10% fluctuates according to your spending.
*
Good discussion bro, but I think both our calculation bit off biggrin.gif .. Lets try to recalculate it. RHB's cashback is based on 20% of the monthly total spending, so you have to take that 10% FROM the 20%, if I assume correctly, so if he pumps petrol alone at RM400 it will mean:

RHB
1st week: (RM100 x 20% = RM20) (RM20 x 10%) = RM2
2nd week: (RM100 x 20% = RM20) (RM20 x 5%) = RM1
3rd week: (RM100 x 20% = RM20) (RM20 x 5%) = RM1
4th week: (RM100 x 20% = RM20) (RM20 x 5%) = RM1
Total: RM5

M2C
1st week: RM100 x 5% = RM5
2nd week: RM100 x 5% = RM5
3rd week: RM100 x 5% = RM5
4th week: RM100 x 5% = RM5
Total: RM20

I am not sure if you are aware that you used RM400 as the first week calculation, when RM400 is the total monthly calculation. If my calculations are more 'correct', this cashback even worse if pump petrol alone.

Ya ya, it says Cash Back is based on 20% of total monthly retail spend. So in a sense, you only get 20% from your usage and not just the first week. This is because they are also giving cashback for weekdays not just weekend. The * does not apply to the first week, it is to describe the cashback mechanism.

Thats why I said the advertising is misleading, but not lying. You can check out their FAQs to get a better idea: http://www.rhb.com.my/Whats_New/cards/petr...shback/faqs.pdf

Hmm... If so... would that make it...

1st week: (RM400 x 20% = RM80) (RM80 x 10%) = RM8
2nd week: (RM400 x 20% = RM80) (RM80 x 5%) = RM4
3rd week: (RM400 x 20% = RM80) (RM80 x 5%) = RM4
4th week: (RM400 x 20% = RM80) (RM80 x 5%) = RM4
Total: RM20

All in all.. conclusion is the total cashback is the same as M2Amex... doh.gif

Yea, so in your calculation, the 20% needs to be based on RM100 la bro, not RM400 smile.gif

OK..I might be stubborn coz I somehow don't feel the cash back is so low to the extend of RM5 as you mention.. LOL... let's dissect the T&C

Weekly petrol feeding RM 100
Total monthly retail spending is RM100 x 4 = RM400..
Cashback mechanism capping it as RM400 x 20% = RM 80
Hence regardless you pump RM200 or RM100 over the weekend, it will still be calculated as RM 80
So... here we go...

1st week: RM80 x 10% = RM8
2nd week: RM80 x 5% = RM4
3rd week: RM80 x 5% = RM4
4th week: RM80 x 5% = RM4
Total: RM20

Hmm... I somehow come back to the same thing as my prev calculation and I'm pretty firm it's this figure...

Damn me... Please use any other card (Amex/UOB/OCBC/Citi) except this card... it's so confusing! rclxub.gif

No worry, I also think its abit too low, but I thought that is because my calculation is off also biggrin.gif

But the T&C was what worries me, because when it shows the "how to get RM50-RM60" scenario, it gives us this:

Monthly Total Spend - Petrol Spend - Capping 20% - Maximum Cash Back - 10% Cash Back
5000 500 1000 60 50
5,000 2,000 1,000 60 60

So, even if u spend RM5K with 500 on petrol you only get RM50, which is really low lo ...

As a RHB cardholder, i feel i would like to say somethin.

Since May last year, i applied it and until now already get cash back more than RM 100. My monthly average spending of petrol is around 5-600. And total spending near 2k on that card.

Well, it may be not so attractive on cash rebate。 But if you consider just pumping the petrol will save you extra $$, i think it is worth for it.

@piao2, you should be sharing the rebate rate in term of % so that we could understand how attractive the RHB CC be.

piao2, assuming you spent RM500/month on petrol. That's RM6000/year just on petrol. So with RM100 cash back (for discussion, noted you mentioned above RM100), you are getting 1.67% cash back only. If you were to consider the fact you spend RM2K/month = RM24K/year, with RM100 cash back, it's like 0.417% and after you less GST, you only get RM50 cash back with RM24K spending shocking.gif

Bro, with RM1.5K spending on other stuff, if you spent your money at Hyper Markets like Tesco, Giant, Carrefour, JJ Supermarket and departmental stores like Parkson, MJ, Isetan, etc. I suggest you look into Maybankard 2 Cards.

I agree with ronnie that there are better cash back card for petrol if you can qualify for it.

Seriously, if a person spends RM500 a month on petrol, get either UOB One Card or better still OCBC Titanium MasterCard and earn 5% cash back everyday for petrol. That's RM25/month or RM300/year cash back just on petrol.
