Just went to Maxis centre in Gardens to check out this phone.
They don't have the phone there, the worker say the phone is not available yet, and don't know when it will be available. Whatever. That particular Maxis centre is notorious for bad service anyway. But he did show me that they are going to have plans for it, 1499 for 24 months and 1759 for 12 months. So I walked to SonyEricsson shop, which is not far away. Yup, they have demo set there. |

Ok, continuing my story.
So I went to the SE shop in Gardens, and they do have a demo set and stock available. The phone is priced at 2,099. I have to say, this is a BRILLIANT phone. For 2010. Seriously, if they had released this phone around the same time as the SGS or the DHD even, this would have been a great phone. It's still a very nice phone now, but knowing that the SGS2 is possibly just 1 month away, do I want to commit to this phone? I wonder. Btw, anyone notice that this phone is running Gingerbread? I didn't notice this until the SE guy showed me, and proudly told me that this is the first phone with Gingerbread in Malaysia. I countered by asking him what about the Nexus S? He responded by saying Maxis is out of stock for Nexus S. This is the first phone featuring Gingerbread to land in Malaysia. Ah, nice one. QUOTE(signora bianca @ Apr 6 2011, 11:04 PM) Midvalley I don't know. Gardens cannot. I went to Maxis at Gardens yesterday and when I asked that worker about this phone he just looked at me blankly and said "belum lagi". Ask him when will they start selling and the answer is "tak tau".Imo, it's not really worth it to get it from Maxis lar. Even if you get it at $1,499, fine, how much do you save? $400? $500? But then you need to be bonded to Maxis and their shitty 3GB data plan for 2 years. Unless 3GB of data per month is enough for you (3GB for me frankly, I can use it up in 1 day), else there's no point. As for the phone itself, like I said, I think it's a brilliant phone - for 2010. It's still a very nice phone, but there really isn't much to go nuts about. The Bravia screen thing is pretty much just marketing hype. Oh, the screen looks gorgeous, definitely. But then again, so does the Super AMOLEDs. Even the SLCDs are more or less in the same level. At least to my eyes. As for the camera, yea, pictures and videos look good, and it's probably one of the top cameras around for Android phones. However, I personally feel that it still does not match the N8's camera. Didn't manage to try out the xmor thing though, but I'm not banking too much into it. Performance wise, it's not much better or worse than the SGS and DHD, which is the main reason why I feel this is a 2010 phone. The phone does comes with Gingerbread though, so that's something to look forward to. And yes, the phone looks as nice in your hands as it does in pictures of it you seen so far online. Anyone who bought the phone, please give more in-depth reviews. |

QUOTE(izadsyah @ Apr 7 2011, 12:17 PM) i have no problems signing with maxis since i've been using their line for the past 11 years with no problems. so far, i'm happy with the phone The problem with Maxis is not the so much about the quality of the line. It's more about the 3GB limit, which to some people (like me) is pathetic.ps. the ones doing the roadshow at Midvalley is one of the retailers, i believe.. not the same guys from Maxis Center. Added on April 7, 2011, 12:48 pm QUOTE(soitsuagain @ Apr 7 2011, 12:21 PM) I just went to mid valley during lunch for the maxis xperia arc road show. I am really impressed with the screen and all in an excellent phone. The camera is excellent and there is no lag so the old processor is not going to be a big deal. Gaming maybe... Did you try browsing the video and picture gallery?Try swiping left or right repeatedly in the gallery. It will start lagging, a lot. Like I said, this kind of performance is pretty much on par with the 2010 Android phones, not much better and not much worse. If you are happy with the SGS and the DHD's performance, then you will be happy with the Arc's performance. But for those who expect the Arc to be better, and it's a reasonable expectation since the Arc is released almost 1 year after the SGS, sadly there will be disappointment. QUOTE(ukoo @ Apr 7 2011, 01:58 PM) not all the buyer are as hardcore as you nor the other cellphone player in lowyat .. Way to go missing the damn point, genius, they might get interesting into the platform or game for first 2month .... but back to the end a phone is still a phone for them .. so for me i think its still the design does the matter .. and branding .. nothing is up to date in technologies .. even u buy sgs2 after 2month .. it will be outdated after a month or 2 .. who know sony might come out a dual core to fight ? about the perfomance or dual core or not will only does matter to very small group of people .. technologies cant wait .. u wait sgs2 now .. 2month later when sgs2 out u hear rumour that sony gonna come out will better spec .. thn wait again ? so make it short .. sony arc is still 1 of the best phone until now .. ps : i havent really touch with it until tonight. so i might be wrong. but its just my 2cent Like I said waaaaaayyyyyy back, when Calex was having his little discussion with me, don't look at the phone in isolation. Compare it to what else is available in the market. This is a very nice phone, for sure, if you look at the leaflets and play with the demo set. But if you consider the fact that the SGS, which is about equal in terms of performance, has been out for almost 1 year, and the fact that the dual-core SGS2 could be available as early as next month, suddenly you will realize the Arc isn't so exciting anymore. And that's not even considering the Motorola Atrix, which some forumers here are already using. The point is, the Arc is a very nice phone, but so is the SGS and the DHD and the NS - and these are all phones of 2010. Just because something is newer doesn't automatically make it better, learn that. |

QUOTE(athlonmax @ Apr 7 2011, 04:23 PM) >clutch31 Well, I would definitely have loved it if they either release the Arc late last year together with the DHD, OR release it middle of this year with enough firepower to take on all the dual-core Android phones in 2011. Either way would have made the Arc an awesome phone. I'm not saying that the Arc sucks right now as it is, because it doesn't. It's just not as awesome as it could have been, and that's such a wasted opportunity for SE.yea true the spec for Xperia Arc is from 2010 and i think SE released this phone quite a bit late to fight with SGS,DHD and etc etc. Maybe SE should concentrate on dual-core phones instead of releasing arc and neo? Still, the Arc will probably have no problem finding buyers, just based on how sleek it looks to most people, including me. |

Ok, here's an easy solution: reduce the Arc's rrp by 500 or so.
the lower price tag will fully justify the fact that the arc is launched after dual-core phones are coming into the market. It makes sense. I remember when shopping for my laptop, dual-core processors were begining to replace the traditional single-core processors. As a result, single-core processor laptops, even if brand new, are priced noticeably lower than the dual-core laptops. Seems to me then it is only logical for SE to price the Arc around 1,500 or so, since they decided to launch the Arc in the era of dual-core phones. |

Ok guys, i went to the se center in gardens again yesterday, and the worker there told me that right now, you can only buy the arc from maxis, or the se centers in gardens and pyramid, and the price is fixed at 2099.
Where did u guys get your Arc at 1900? I read someone got it from klang? AP or ori? |
