Repost:

New Vista User Log. From a XP user

Purchased a note book with VISTA Premium, 2 Weeks ago.

Preliminary Outlook.

Damn, Loading up VISTA is damn slow, and this is supposed to be a newer machine even with 1gb ram. Apart from that the VISTA interface looks good. AERO and all the smooth graphics need some time of getting used to. Transferring from a XP to VISTA for general computing is not at all hard. Everything seems same to XP. biggrin.gif

Transferring data

Being a office notebook, transferring data from old to new computer is inevitable. The setting up to the office network which most computer either at XP or 98 is ok. Net work compatibility if fine. Locating computer from the network and transferring files is as what is suppose to do. biggrin.gif

First hurdle. The driver for communal Printer is not vista ready. Looking form the website, there is a driver for vista but not official release. Need to manual install and set up. For normal printer is fine but network printer/fax/scanner all in one is a bit risky business. Finally got the printer installed manually from the manufactut rer technician on the phone. The driver used is not official, temporary measure taken until official vista driver is out which is supposed to take a few more month. hmm.gif

Next testing and installing all the normal everyday software normally used.

1) Outlook. -OK
2) ANTIVIRUS -OK
3) MS OFFICE -OK
4) Custom dos based program which uses full screen on DOS. -NOT OK sad.gif
5) Networked program -OK
6) 3party utility program -NOT OK sad.gif
7) Firefox. -Problematic when installing plug in

Some comment here. Some programs that had been quoted vista compactable is have bugs. Huge Bugs. Next. Upon uninstalling. Traces of the program still left in start menu and program files folder. And the program in this folder cannot be deleted. Funny. vmad.gif

Finally decided, decided to try out all the program that Microsoft can offer instead of the alternative. mad.gif

Update:

Disable the UAC ( user account control ) most program run better
I think microsoft use the UAC to disable non microsoft programs,,,,

People... pleas disable UAC icon_idea.gif

Lesson learned.....

so....DO NOT UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE......... microsoft will be more likely to mess it up than to makes vista better...
