Windows Vista Build 5456 Released
Microsoft has just released an updated version of Windows Vista to technical beta testers. Build 5456 is available in either x86 or x64 flavors right now on Microsoft Connect.

Neosmart just posted some additional information about this build:

"Some of the new features include a revamped Aero/DWM subsystem, and a completely overhauled and siginficantly less obtrusive UAP for all those that couldn't stand the previous one. From what we have been told by Microsoft, the Time Zone bug that plagued previous builds of Windows Vista has been patched, and quite a few fixes in the Regional Settings and IME have been patched."

This is the first beta release of Vista since Microsoft released Beta 2 to a much wider testing audience in late May.

New Windows Standard Theme in Windows Vista

Many community members have expressed concerns over the visual experience of the Windows Basic theme, and, we heard you loud and clear.  In fact, we too wanted something better, and we've overhauled this theme with an all new version.  For those who haven't been following the discussion, let me brief you on the issue.

//hotlinking disabled by samurai1337 - not all people are using high-res monitor, therefore please stick with 640*480 image size, otherwise use thumbnails

based on this build, i think the new color scheme is the new features right ?
and the graphic look smoother ... no more gigi d~~

after i have used it for a while, i feel that this build is much more stable than beta 2
i planed to use it till rc1 released!! haha since everything is working in this build without any big big problem!
the performance of the os is also increased! first boot up, the os only takes about 600mb ram,the developers still trying to reduce the ram usage! happy.gif

be patient the rc1 will be release at 8th of sept if i am not mistaken !
i think rc1 will be more stable !

After downloading, please install and test the build as soon as possible.  Most importantly, if there is a crash, hang, or error - please make sure that you send the information back to us using the built-in Windows Error Reporting technology (a dialog box will display automatically).  Sending this information is essential to helping us improve the overall quality of Windows Vista - and collecting this information is the primary purpose of distributing this pre-RC1 release.

Once you complete the download you must burn the ISO file to a DVD. If you don't know if your DVD-burning software will support burning an ISO file, please refer to your DVD-burning software program and search "Help" for instructions on creating a disc from an ISO file.

try this site to get RC1 cd key!
requirement:
you must know how to read chinese^_^

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/PCTr...%2Fpreview.mspx

tested by me! it works!
you have to use your hotmail with ms passport to apply for product key for rc1
each mail address can only apply 1 rc1 product key, each product key can be activated 10 times!
