QUOTE(mzms @ Jan 31 2007, 10:57 AM) i have the evaluation ultimate and also same problem with the thumbnails. i solved this by going to computer (same as my computer in xp) and right click it, and select properties then advanced tab. then under performance, select settings and under visual effects tab, make sure you check the box "view as thumbnails instead of icons" Thanks for replying. Me not quite understand why the thumbnail option is not by default. Average ppl like ALL of us here will have real trouble finding & browsing through options just to change simple option like this. Even turning off UAC need more than 5 clicks and multiple pages of stuff to read.So how do u like it so far? I find XP of course to be faster and Vista to be sluggish when multitasking. However, things pick up to XP speed when you turn off Aero glass. So far all my hardware work except my scanner which needs a new driver. My mobile phone also connects automatically to Vista (USB) but I haven't tested it yet as modem. I don't know if I want to spend the $ to upgrade once this evaluation expires, XP is working fine for me and as they say, why fix it if it ain't broke. there was a windows update for my Geforce 7600GS but after I installed that, Aero glass stopped functioning and I could only get Vista Basic theme. Weird. I had to revert using System Restore. EDIT: tested my sony mobile phone as modem to connect to diginet. works well. now the only thing that doesn't work is my scanner (need new driver). and need to get new Nero too. It's not that me hate Vista though, me really like the new visual interface and the full features ot Ultimate, Ultimate should let me elimate the need of some 3rd party software (me run a home web server), but there's some tiny-meeny stuff that made me rather running XP. For example, when u click the down arrow in the address bar in file explorer, there's no "My Computer", "My Documents", "Desktop" anymore, it's been replaced with the browsing history. Or is it some setting that we can change to bring it back? Oh me dunno, lazy to browse through pages of configurations, me will do just that when me free. Meanwhile, me will stick back to WinXP for my server & everyday use. Vista Ultimate will be my playtime OS, until the first service pack come out. For other's info & to my surprise, all internal & external hardware works flawlessly with Vista Ultimate on 2 desktops & 4 Acer Centrino laptops that me installed on. All machine uses more than 600MB of RAM with only the OS with no 3rd softwares & no programs/windows open BUT with AERO running. |

Readyboost works on fast memory card & thumbdrive only.
Tested almost 20 thumbdrive and 50 memory cards, only half of them (mostly branded) works. |

Try turnoff pagefile, let the OS uses only physical RAM as err... RAM, reboot PC, and then test again with ReadyBoost.
U will notice significant performance increase. |

If me not mistaken, we can transfer the license of the retail vista from one PC to another but we cannot do that with OEM.
Is that true? Means the OEM of vista is tied to the mobo, but OEM of XP dun tied to anything, can transfer whenever however we want. QUOTE while the EULA for an OEM copy of XP made it clear that it was for installation on a single machine only and tied to that machine (or rather its motherboard) for the rest of time, Microsoft has been letting XP users reactivate anyhow without trouble. As a result users who had purchased OEM copies of XP back in 2001 have continued to reuse it up through today, which is an excellent deal for them given the low price of the OEM versions spread over 5 years. While the EULA has not changed for Vista as far as this policy goes, there have been concerns and rumors that Microsoft will be clamping down on this practice. Quoted from AnandTech. Almost had myself getting OEM of Home Premium >_< But the retail version of Home Premium is almost RM1k~! *keep using the ahem Vista Oltimate b4 found a cheaper Home Premium* EDIT: Wrong quote tag. QUOTE but it proves that windows vista dont show windows logo during boot up...somehow That is bcoz u only make it "sleep" by clicking the "Turn Off" button. To fully shut it down, u need to click the arrow beside the "Turn Off" button, then click Shut Down. Added on February 7, 2007, 2:16 pm QUOTE(AspireAcer @ Feb 5 2007, 05:49 PM) Go beyond Vista. Dude, this is a Vista thread, plz go back to your Mac thread. It's time to get a Mac. If you're thinking of upgrading to Vista, you'll probably need a new computer. Why not get a Mac? It's simpler, more secure, and way more fun. And it works with the stuff you already have, like printers and cameras. So before you upgrade anything, you owe it to yourself to check out a Mac. http://insideapple.apple.com/redir/1112358...c320e54c333f1f6 ------------------------------------- See all the reasons why you'll love a Mac. http://insideapple.apple.com/redir/1112358...c320e54c333f1f6 Which Mac are you? http://insideapple.apple.com/redir/1112358...c320e54c333f1f6 Test-drive a Mac at the Apple Store. http://insideapple.apple.com/redir/1112358...c320e54c333f1f6 Btw, Acer got Mac also meh?
