Hi guys,

I've a problem which i hope u sifu's can help me with.

To cut the story short, I've installed Vista Business on a SATA drive. After installation, when i reboot and REMOVE the Vista DVD from the DVD-ROM, it wont boot. It says "Enter system disk". Basically it can't find the installed Vista on the SATA drive.

If i put the Vista DVD back in and reboot, i boot normally into Vista.

Anyone tell me what I'm missing here?

Motherboard : MSI K8N Neo2 ... a 939 Motherboard..Nforce3

Depends on your usage...
Im currently running Vista Ultimate on my machine.
Just XP1800+ and 512MB RAM.
I can say still okay if said used for web surfing and mp3 playback.
I noticed no lagging when playing mp3 while surfing the net even with Aero theme n side bar enabled. Probably when play games or uses more cpu or ram intensive programs, you will notice the lagging. Besides there's nothing special about Vista. Its just bloated. I hate the way they change the navigation. Its like a maze in Vista. Its really a new experience like M$ claimed but definately not a good one.

BTW, its sucks so badly that you will have to disable the user control thing. Damn thing is going to ask you everytime you wanna install/remove a programs/drivers. I havent try the Flip3D thing but overall wasnt very impressed.

Just a screen shot...

I think MS exegerate about Vista minimum requirement. As long as you have something like a ATI Radeon 9700/9800, with 512MB and a half decent processor like 1.5GHz (or above, except for P4).. it should be enough to do daily stuffs like checking emails, mp3s, chit chat messenger, etc. You can even disable some of the useless stuffs that does nothing but I dont have time to play around with it. I cant even connect with other PC using XP though I have the same workgroup. Weird. Haf to restart in XP liao... going to format soon...

for those who wanna install vista soon, u can use this tool called vlite :

Windows Vista from Microsoft takes a lot of resources, we all know that. So here is the tool for easy removal of the unwanted components in order to make Vista run faster and to your liking. vLite can also create the bootable ISO and apply the tweaks directly.

This tool doesn't use any kind of hacking, all files and registry entries are protected as they would be if you install the full version only without the components you select for the removal.

It configures the installation directly, before the installation, meaning you'll have to remake the ISO and reinstall it. This method is much cleaner, not to mention easier and more logical than doing it after installation on every reinstall.

for all sifu who ran aero glass effect on vista ultimate,

i heard it's around 600+ MB ram usage when 1st start up on vista ultimate w aero glass enable, does this true?

i really wonder does 2gb takes effect on me, i never play games or do ram intensive task, the max i'll do is browsing website with lots of tabs and chatting which maximum consumes around 500MB

i got 1gb on my R60 now, my current windows xp start up ram usage is around 250MB, and maximum ram i used is around 750MB

all sifu pls advice notworthy.gif

I'm running this Windows Vista on

Acer Aspire 1692WLmi ( 1.73GHZ, 533FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)
15.14' WXGA Cyrstalbright TFT LCD
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 PCi Express 128MB VRAM
80GB HD,
Slot Loading DVD-+RW
2GB DDR 2 Dual Channel

I found the 2GB is just nice to run the Operating System but sometimes is still slow since the OS take lot's of RAM running it now using best performance mode and no lagging or problem, if you're on 512MB RAM don't dream to install Vista Ultimate to ur PC or Laptop,i'm sure it will be very slow.

Thats is not design for win vista. If try in vista capable processor then should be no problem. icon_idea.gif

MEh, I really need to get Mod fix up the 1st post

Some info that lazy ppl tend not to read in the prior post

- YOU DON'T ASK FOR LINK IN HERE!!!!
- Starting with RC2, you need 1GB of RAM for Aero to start taking effect
- You CAN install Vista on at least a PIII Machine. It has been done
- The slowness of teh system is not the OS's fault. It's because ppl are too lazy to turn off the effect and such
- Flip 3D and Aero effects does not consume more resources and energy. It uses even less than the 3rd party software that can create the same effect on XP machine. This is due to DWM (Desktop Windows Manager) that renders these effect in the background instead of rendering it on the spot
- The navigation system are designed after years of research on how ppl uses the PC and feedback by the beta testers (which many you can find here in this thread). If you don't like it, don't use it.
- THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A VISTA CERTIFIED MOTHERBOARD!!!!
- The full release is at the end of January. DON'T ASK ANYMORE!!!!

anyone try ReadyBoost?

I am trying with my 4Gb CF card on an apacer card reader (which is the bottleneck), it does speed up a lot of things.

My Vista Index is 3.2. thanks to old school barton 2500+.

A 1G of ram would be enouf for general usage in vista, but would recommend a multi core CPU. as in my case, photos browsing/editing, surfing, MCE to xbox. my CPU is barely taking up the processes. Ram wise is OK, averagely i have around 100-200Mb free. with 4Gb ReadyBoost, most of the things are chached inside the card

I tried using a 256MB thumbdrive when it was RC2. Perhaps that drive is too slow, vista don't seem to use it at all. I wonder what would happen if I use readyboost on slower devices such as MMC? laugh.gif

To some beta testers that yet to get their RTM keys (aka me and mengsuan), seems that many more are sharing this fate with us. Some are even active beta testers that have send 10 or more bugs.
