Hi Sifu sekalian!
I just got my MI300 yesterday. This is my first andriod phone. Was using Symbian before this and decided to abandon symbian. I realized a few things after using the phone for a day;
1. I can't just use any MP3 as my ringtone. 2. I can't install apps on the SD Card
I also need GPS softwares like PAPAGO. The supplied Mapking is all but question marks to me.
So, I guess, I need to ROOT/FLASH it right?
Being an Andriod user for 1 day, I really need lots of advice from all the Sifu here.
1. What is the best way to flash it? (err.. meaning, which version should I flash to? , there's this Phantomking thingy.. which I don't know much about).
2. Do I need to upgrade it to 2.2? (in order for me to do those things I wanted to do)
3. What are the disadvantage of rooting or flashing? (besides of the warranty void)
4. What are the disadvantages of upgrading to 2.2?
5. Are all these FIletrapSugar, FiletrapVanilla, Cyanogenmod, PhantomKing, etc.. custom Roms? If so, what are the differences? Which is better?\
6. My understanding is, Rooting = Gain Superuser Access, Flashing = Upgrade the firmware/os. Am I right?. If so, can you Root without Flashing?
Thanks bros!

Thanks sifu! So, the most recommended ROM/FIRMWARE now is Phantom King V2 right?
So, now what I do is; 1. Root the phone 2. Flash it with Phantom King V2
Am I right?

Yes benny, I have been fiddling with it the whole day yesterday and find out what are the limitations hahaha. Which is why I decided to root.
Mykazza, what do you mean by installing things from Market place via computer?

Joana, based on my 1 day Andriod experience, I think it's because andriod only install apps in the Internal memory, not SD card. In order to move apps into SD Card, you need to root, and flash it to 2.2 froyo.

My Spice is still stock now. I haven't use it yet actually, so I don't have SMS or Contacts. Do you think I should backup my original ROM first?

Oh.. so, I need to download this ROM manager? Where can I get it? And secondly, (this might be a stupid question), this ROM MAnager is to be installed on my PC, or the phone itself?

Something's not right somewhere. I've rooted it. Then, I connect my phone to my PC. Then I run the SUT. I clicked next, then the phone booted in ClockwordMod Recovery console and prompt for my action> - reboot system now - apply sdcard : update.zip - wipe data/ factory reset - wipe cache partition - install zip from SDcard - backup and restore - mount and storage - advance
then the SUT gave me this; Update Process fails with below error! Error Code : 0x4000 Error : Download Fail Error = Device not configure (0x4000)
Added on March 28, 2011, 5:50 pmLuckily i backed up... phew.... kinda scary. But I don't get why I failed at the SUT.

Yeah... I did. What I did is, with my phone off, I connect it to the USB. Then, I Boot in download mode. Then that thing keep "polling, get oemsbl_mode = 1" Do I wait till it stop? I did not. And my computer detect and try to install hardware, but "device failed install ..."
Then I run my SUT.
Added on March 28, 2011, 6:00 pmI tried again.. but now, My SUT says "Phone is not connected"
