ok, good news is I successfully backup my Android Boot screen, there are 2 part, first part is an animated CSL logo and second part is a static CSL screen. Now i need to figure out how to restore them.

If I can ADB into my MI-300 then I can put the files where I wanted but somehow my Android SDK can't find my MI300 as a device because I do not have the necessary USB driver.

lance888, when you use ROM manager you are backup the ROM, you do not back up the Boot animation.. The Boot animation is the moving colourful CSL word when you power up your phone.

The boot animation will be change to something else when you flash custom ROM,

I am working on a solution to restore the boot animation, I already manage to get all the animation files out, now to try putting it back in.

Can you upload it here notworthy.gif

ok, i just successfully changed the bootanimation.
FYI, I am still using stock 2.1 and I manage to change the bootanimation to something else and change back to CSL stock animation with the steps below.

1. Find a boot animation, in my example I am going to use one I dload off the net (see attachment below bootanimation.zip).
2. You phone must be rooted and has Super Manager (any Root Explorer will do).
3. Connect your phone to usb, mount the card and copy the bootanimation.zip to the root of the card.
4. Unplug USB, start Root Explorer and cut the bootanimation.zip (you will need to paste it into another folder later).
5. Browse to "/hidden/data/Power-on Animation" folder, you must have root access granted to root Super Manager to see this folder, it is hidden by default).
6. There is a existing bootanimation.zip there, rename it to existing bootanimation-csl.zip to backup
7. Paste the bootanimation.zip you copied in step 4.
8. Shutdown your phone.
9. Turn it back on and voila, new bootanimation.

p/s: fyi there is a shell script in "/hidden/data/Power-on Animation" that automatically copies the bootanimation.zip to /local/data. Earlier I was trying to paste into /local/data and it kept getting replaced.

hope this will help you all claim warranty smile.gif or custom rom freely without worrying about warranty.

Tq for the info. Did you also manage to backup the CSL first bootscreen(no animation)?

I belive the non-animated first boot screen will not be overwritten, so there is no need to backup. You can check youtube or anyone here who has flash custom rom into their MI-300, they will still see the non animated CSL word first boot screen before coming to the second animated boot screen which is replaced when you flash custom OS.

This is true if you have android 2.1 preinstall. The one I bought have android 1.6 preinstall so need to upgrade to 2.1 using spice 2.1 rom. Spice rom will overwrite CSL first bootscreen.

yes, I am using 2.1 stock. This is something that I am not aware of.

Can you try to flash a stock csl rom over your spice rom and see if you will get the static first boot screen?

The problem is there are no official rom release by CSL. Only have nandroid backup without first bootscreen.
I already put a guide on how to backup the first bootscreen before

so far i know we can only update the first static boot screen through a nb0 flash, not a normal zip update because the nb0 contains partition information and the first static csl boot screen is located in a partition which I have yet to determine.

need to learn how to pack unpack a nb0 file and open the phantom king nbo to see where he put this first static screen, we then just need to replace the bmp/png file to flash it backinto our phone
*
Actually we can replace it by using fastboot. I'm currently using custom bootscreen. The image need to convert to rgb565 format and flash by using fastboot.

Download the attachment (createg1splash.zip) and extract to a folder. Then run the program. Select image file (480x320) and click convert.
Use ADB Made Easy from boston-mania to flash the converted file (mysplash.rgb565)
