i want to ask about rom manager backup ..

after backup what file it would be?

nb0?
or just a folder with name give by user ( usually date of backup)

and how to restore it?

just go rom manager and restore ? for my case it restart to restore mode then i dont know wad to choose after that.
*
When you select restore , rom manager will show you a list of all your saved backups. These backups are usually named with a date eg 2011-03-21-xxxxx. It is a good practice after backup to rename this \backup folder for future easy reference, eg I will rename it as 20110324Phantom KIng rev2, 20110316StockEclair21 etc - it is up to you how to rename ; for me the date of backup and the rom details is sufficient

It is better to install rom manager before you flash any new rom. With rom manager you installed you can than backup your rom first. Your rom will be saved in the sd card under clockworkmod/backupĀ  folder. If you view the file contents, you will see several img files and a md5 file

You can still install rom manager after you have flash Phantom KIng rom

Actually I don't really understand your issue as you are writing in broken english

im sorry for my english

actually my problem is, i have backup using the rom manager before i flash my rom,( using rom manager and select Backup Current ROM)
after that it save a folder /clockworkmod/backup/270311)

but after i flash my phone to phantom king, i go to ROM manager and select Restore Backup it just restart my phone and go to Recovery Mode. and recovery screen appear which options is reboot, delete cache etc etc etc, and it just went into normal recovery mode without actually restore my rom

my question here is am i missing the part where i should click on "Flash ClockWork Recovery" which i believe i havent done yet, but the problem is i have flash my rom into Phantom King, if i select this will there anyproblem?

Oh.. so I copy the Z4Root apk into my phone, and install it in my phone?

The guide and tutorial in post #1 ASSUMES that one understand some basics of Android. It is difficult to have the TS to write down a detail step by step instructions . The TS will have to assume you already know your ABC. He cannot start to write to teach you the ABC. So I suggest if you are new to Android, do some readup on basic tec terms - understand what is root, how to install apps, what is APK, what is memory, what is apps 2 SD , what is market, how to enable access to paid apps market etc etc etc
In this Android forum, look at the STICKY threads above - you can refer there for the basics

So basically your scenario is this :

First time - you install rom manager and has successfully make a backup - you have described so

Than you flash a new rom

However when you launch rom manager - you are unable to see rom manager recovery menu. What you have is actually the STOCK recovery menu which does NOT have the backup/restore choices - right ?

There is absolutley no problem to install rom manager after you have flash a new rom,. Launch it and tap first time - flash clockwork recovery . This will NEVER do anu harm to your phone.

Did you try to access recovery thro the 3 buttons. Switch off phone. Simultaneously press camera-volup-power buttons . If you still unable to see rom manager recovery , means your rom manager installation is corrupted. Uninstall it , reset and reinstall , launch, flash recovery

Something's not right somewhere. I've rooted it. Then, I connect my phone to my PC. Then I run the SUT. I clicked next, then the phone booted in ClockwordMod Recovery console and prompt for my action>
- reboot system now
- apply sdcard : update.zip
- wipe data/ factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip from SDcard
- backup and restore
- mount and storage
- advance

then the SUT gave me this;
Update Process fails with below error!
Error Code : 0x4000
Error : Download Fail
Error = Device not configure (0x4000)

Added on March 28, 2011, 5:50 pmLuckily i backed up... phew.... kinda scary. But I don't get why I failed at the SUT.

Yeah... I did.
What I did is, with my phone off, I connect it to the USB.
Then, I Boot in download mode.
Then that thing keep "polling, get oemsbl_mode = 1"
Do I wait till it stop? I did not. And my computer detect and try to install hardware, but "device failed install ..."

Then I run my SUT.

Added on March 28, 2011, 6:00 pmI tried again.. but now, My SUT says "Phone is not connected"

This is obvious your phone is not being detected by PC so the SUT process fail. Just check with the phone on , connect to PC - did you see any error message at the right hand side of the bottom bar. The first time you connect, the PC will install the drivers and you will see message new hardware detected follow by PC install drivers

This just shows your phone is in download mode. There will be no response at all. You have to connect to PC so that the rom can be flash on it

Ah...
When I first plug in the phone during download mode,
there's this
"Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" device driver installation. But it failed. So, I guess I need to search and install this driver manually?

Added on March 28, 2011, 6:34 pmCrap.. my laptop doesn't couldn't install the driver of the phone when in Download Mode.
