hey, how to transfer those installed application from phone memory to sd card?
*
Are you on Froyo . You can use manual force install : Settings/Applications -= select the app and choose move to card
Widgets andd system utilities should stay in phone memory

There are also several types of apps you can use - in market just search for apps2SD, apps 2 SD, sd manager etc

Thanks sifu! So, the most recommended ROM/FIRMWARE now is Phantom King V2 right?

So, now what I do is;
1. Root the phone
2. Flash it with Phantom King V2

Am I right?
*
Use z4root to root - 2 secs kautim !
Flash using SUT - under 8 minutes , new rom on phone

So in 10 minutes you will have a brand new experience. However I'd suggest if you are new to Android, should spend a day or two on the stock 2.1 rom so you can appreciate the improvement and benefits better with Froyo

guys, my phone can't enter recovery mode and fastboot mode....
what should i do?
*
Need more information - what rom are you on now ? If on stock you will just have a basic stock recovery with limited features. To go to recovery - press simultaneously the camera, vol up and power switch

For fastboot - your phone can only be successfully connect with PC if you have installed the USB drivers

It is better to install rom manager before you flash any new rom. With rom manager you installed you can than backup your rom first. Your rom will be saved in the sd card under clockworkmod/backup folder. If you view the file contents, you will see several img files and a md5 file

You can still install rom manager after you have flash Phantom KIng rom

Actually I don't really understand your issue as you are writing in broken english

i want to ask about rom manager backup ..

after backup what file it would be?

nb0?
or just a folder with name give by user ( usually date of backup)

and how to restore it?

just go rom manager and restore ? for my case it restart to restore mode then i dont know wad to choose after that.
*
When you select restore , rom manager will show you a list of all your saved backups. These backups are usually named with a date eg 2011-03-21-xxxxx. It is a good practice after backup to rename this \backup folder for future easy reference, eg I will rename it as 20110324Phantom KIng rev2, 20110316StockEclair21 etc - it is up to you how to rename ; for me the date of backup and the rom details is sufficient

Oh.. so I copy the Z4Root apk into my phone, and install it in my phone?
*
The guide and tutorial in post #1 ASSUMES that one understand some basics of Android. It is difficult to have the TS to write down a detail step by step instructions . The TS will have to assume you already know your ABC. He cannot start to write to teach you the ABC. So I suggest if you are new to Android, do some readup on basic tec terms - understand what is root, how to install apps, what is APK, what is memory, what is apps 2 SD , what is market, how to enable access to paid apps market etc etc etc
In this Android forum, look at the STICKY threads above - you can refer there for the basics

QUOTE(mykazza @ Mar 28 2011, 04:01 PM)
im sorry for my english

actually my problem is, i have backup using the rom manager before i flash my rom,( using rom manager and select Backup Current ROM)
after that it save it save a folder /clockworkmod/backup/270311)

but after i flash my phone to phantom king, i go to ROM manager and select Restore Backup it just restart my phone and go to Recovery Mode. and recovery screen appear which options is reboot, delete cache etc etc etc, and it just went into normal recovery mode without actually restore my rom

my question here is am i missing the part where i should click on "Flash ClockWork Recovery" which i believe i havent done yet, but the problem is i have flash my rom into Phantom King, if i select this will there anyproblem?
*
So basically your scenario is this :

First time - you install rom manager and has successfully make a backup - you have described so

Than you flash a new rom

However when you launch rom manager - you are unable to see rom manager recovery menu. What you have is actually the STOCK recovery menu which does NOT have the backup/restore choices - right ?

There is absolutley no problem to install rom manager after you have flash a new rom,. Launch it and tap first time - flash clockwork recovery . This will NEVER do anu harm to your phone.

Did you try to access recovery thro the 3 buttons. Switch off phone. Simultaneously press camera-volup-power buttons . If you still unable to see rom manager recovery , means your rom manager installation is corrupted. Uninstall it , reset and reinstall , launch, flash recovery

Yeah... I did.
What I did is,  with my phone off, I connect it to the USB.
Then, I Boot in download mode.
Then that thing keep "polling, get oemsbl_mode = 1"
Do I wait till it stop? I did not. And my computer detect and try to install hardware, but "device failed install ..."

Then I run my SUT.

Added on March 28, 2011, 6:00 pmI tried again.. but now, My SUT says "Phone is not connected"
*
This is obvious your phone is not being detected by PC so the SUT process fail. Just check with the phone on , connect to PC - did you see any error message at the right hand side of the bottom bar. The first time you connect, the PC will install the drivers and you will see message new hardware detected follow by PC install drivers

My screen now shows only
"polling, get oemsbl_mode = 1"

Full of it. No response even I press off button or anything.
*
This just shows your phone is in download mode. There will be no response at all. You have to connect to PC so that the rom can be flash on it

Ah...
When I first plug in the phone during download mode,
there's this
"Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" device driver installation. But it failed. So, I guess I need to search and install this driver manually?

Added on March 28, 2011, 6:34 pmCrap.. my laptop doesn't couldn't install the driver of the phone when in Download Mode.
*
The first time when you run the setup.exe of SUT - did you see the installation progress bar of the phone drivers and USB drivers ?? Why don't you run the SUT setup again. After complete , with your phone on, connect it to PC - if you see successful detection - it should be alright than. If the PC fail to detect, go to Device Manager and check whether you see any YEllow colored highlights of failed detection of hardware. Select the yellowed items and choose to reinstall drivers - allow auto selection
What windows OS are you on ?? I have read that XP might have issues and you need to go through such steps. There will be no such issues with Win7

Haha.. good question which I have been asking myself too.

Hey, regarding my problems with SUT not able to detect my phone when it's in download mode, could it be cause by Windows user level (Admin, Super User)  settings? (coz' I'm a super user on the laptop).
*
It has nothing to do with it. I still think you did not do a successful installation of SUT setup. Just run the setup, exe file. It will auto detect your windows platform

Last resort, download the android sdk - this will install generic android usb drivers. After you download it, run the program. Locate where you extracted the SDK files, execute the SDK manager

How come our telco companies could not offer phones with cheaper pricing than Singapore's?

We bring in more bulk than they do since our population is so much bigger but still when it comes to phones even without taxes, we still lose out to them?
*
Just my 2 sens on basic economics : Everything is peg to the US$ and the ringgit is weaker than the S$. Dollar for dollar the purchasing power is stronger in Spore. A fresh graduate in Spore earns S$ 2500, similar to Msia but RM 2500. This fresh grad just need to pay say S$700 while the Msian grad needs to pay RM 2000 . This means if 10 M'sians can afford to buy, at least 20 or more Singaporeans can similarly afford

The number of smartphone users is greater in Spore mainly due to the country higher literacy and generally better education standards. Just look around you in say a typical kopitiam, how many you see using smartphones costing above RM 1500. In KL maybe 50 %, in other towns maybe 10 %. In Spore - possibly 90 % cos comparatively is cheap ???

So basically a higher sales volume can only justify a lower selling price

Still could Singaporean telcos have larger customer base than Malaysia?
Their demand for smartphones could be higher but with our larger pool of customers, Malaysian telcos should be bulk ordering in larger amount than them.

Larger bulk order = lower priced deals.

Purchasing power can be considered here too like you said but not quite convinced that the whole Singaporean smartphone users combined could even exceed Malaysian's total customer numbers.

This is true if it only accounts for Singapore. They could even do the bulk for their overseas investments involve Optus, Bharti, Telkomsel as such. If that's true then, this would mean that their bulk orders are larger than ours instead.
*
Sales will be purely based on POTENTIAL customer base. It does not mean a higher population means a higher customer base. Back to my analogy, Spore population is about 4 million - ask yourself how many % of it will buy a smartphone costing S$700 and above. Now ask in Msia even with 15 million - how many % will buy a smartphone costing above RM 1500. Purchasing power will depend on available disposal income. One need not to do much research , the Spore numbers will be higher than Msia . Just look at GDP - Spore 2009 GDP is US 189 billion while Msia with a bigger population is only US$193 billion - so you can see how can Msia purchasing power compete especially in high tech items

Read this article : http://www.asiaone.com/Business/News/My%2B...0626-72979.html

Spore is now rank no 7 in having the fastest growing number of millionaires - Msia is not even in the list. Topping the top-10 list was India, followed by China. Other countries in the top 10 list are Brazil, which took the third spot, followed by South Korea, Indonesia, Slovakia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Czech Republic and Russia. So if you are an industrilist wishing to sell expensive stuffs - will you want to sell it in Msia or Spore ??

I do not know about CSL yet, my previous HTC and Samsung phones while still rooted and on cook rom, I still can claim warranty FREE - twice was replace motherboard. AP Set I bought at LowYat I claim at Samsung Singapore Service Center. Similarly my Dopod I bought in KL I got motherboard replace FOC at Spore HTC Service centre. I always think all these worries about warranty is only a small issue. If you want to root and flash roms, just be prepared to paid for any repair costs. If you worry too much about this, don't root and dont flash - use back stock rom. I usually go to Spore as it is nearer than KL. But this CSL if have issue has to go back to CSL shop as Spore doesn't sell this model

BTW the CSL shop that sells me the phone ask me to help him to flash his phone too and other customers of his ; so the seller himself is voiding warranty
