Hi peeps,

I am looking for a laptop which will be brought to UK for study purpose..

1) Brand---any brand with international warranty

2) Price---under 2.5k~~

3) Design+weight ----around 2.2kg is acceptable...non smudge surface..(dislike prints all over the lappy)

4) usage --- online...a bit online gaming...
I've scanned through the thread and realise HP is rarely being mentioned...why is it so??
*
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2349 is the best u can get at rm2.5k... though i ma not too sure abt how Dell's int'l warranty works...

safest bet would be A42Jp, i5-480M + AMD HD6570@RM2699, exceeds ur budget a little, but Asus laptops come with 2yrs international warranty by default...

my experience with HP is that they are heavy, hot, and expensive... not really my cup of tea... tongue.gif

*
GPU for me...

u can always add a USB3.0 ExpressCard if u really need it in the future... but u can't change the GPU after u fork out ur money...

That is true, but I think in these 1 year time, more and more USB 3 storage items will come out sad.gif  ExtHD, Flashdrive etc. Missing out just one USB3 port is going to be a disaster..
*
well, seriously do we really need USB3.0?

granted our iPod and handphones maybe can charge faster... but thumb drives and HDD??? how often u see a normal thumbdrive shooting past 10MB/s write speed? how often u see HDDs going past 20MB/s write? USB2.0 can provide max 480Mbps = 60MB/s of bandwidth... we re not even using half of it (which is the commonly agreed max bandwidth in real use scenario)...

mate, in the electronic world, no pic = no proof... (even though there's still the problem of Photoshopping...)

not that i dun want to trust u, but that's the rule of the game...

else i also can say my thumbdrive can reach 40MB/s write...

QUOTE(SRLee @ Mar 25 2011, 03:07 AM)
Hey everyone, here's my new, updated version of criteria for selecting a laptop:

Brand: Any reliable brand

Budget: RM4,000

Specs: At least running a Sandy Bridge processor

Size: 13.3" to 14.0" and less than 2.0kg

Purpose:

- Surf the internet
- Create documents, presentations, etc (for school/college)
- Watch 720p Blu-Ray movies

Extra Notes:

- I'm planning to bring it wherever I go.
- Back-lit keyboard is a major advantage.
- Battery life should be as long as possible, preferably more than 6 hours on a single charge (surfing the internet with Wi-Fi connection OR watch 720p Blu-Ray movies).
- I plan to get this laptop sometime in June, but I am willing to wait for a better model that's coming out soon (if applicable).

I think that's it.

Thanks for recommendations!

suggest u wait for Acer TimelineX 4830TG/3830TG instead...

Huh? So means lousier?

higher resolution = more pixels to display = more work for the GPU

u can play at lowered resolution, say 1600x900, 1366x768 or 1280x720... but it's not going to look pretty on a Full HD monitor though...
