Yeah, I was surprised by the HD3000, waaaaaaaaay above my expectations but below my condition =\
Anyway though, I swear I saw the ASUS product guide for April on PC Fair that HAS that N43SL behind for RM2599
I swear I didn't see that wrongly, I still have it at my KL house. I'm at Ipoh now though
*
Well, for those who don't game (and thus don't get laptops with dedicated GPUs)... it would be good to know that the Intel HD3000 would be powerful enough to satisfy their daily needs nod.gif
But for gamers like us hehe, Intel HD3000 is only there for power saving laugh.gif
Yeah, I believe you:

Attached Image

Its just weird that for the N43SL and 1215b, there appeared in last month's brochure but vanished in this month's one sad.gif

izzit a big different between
A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2599, [6-cell 5200mAH]
A43Sv, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT540M@RM2899

i am wondering the different between i5 and i7, any comment?
*
i7 is way powerful than the i5 due to it being a quad core... but whether you need it or not depends on the programs you use...
If normal office tasks, there's no real need for the extra power...
And do take note that with the i7, you'll need to compromise abit with the higher heat as well as shorter battery life nod.gif

oic, thanks for the review..but seen like i5 and i7 just different about RM250+
so why not to grab a powerful i7 as well.
another thing, any different for gaming between i5 and i7 with the same graphic card GT540M?
*
CPU difference will have little (RTS), or no effect on gaming performance (FPS) nod.gif Of course, performance difference may vary from game to game...
Well, why not pay less RM250 and get more battery life and less heat? laugh.gif
So its down to what you prefer, if you are often mobile, its best to just get i5, i7 is simply overkill if you're not going to use it

1. Brand: any brand except acer  tongue.gif
2. Budget: around rm 3k
3. Specs: best for wat rm3k can get...  biggrin.gif
4. Size: at most 14" or 15.6"
5. Mostly used for programming, gaming such as COD:Black Ops,Crysis 2,NFS etc etc (games nowadays...) tongue.gif

thx for all sifus who helped  blush.gif
planning to buy it on this pc fair at PISA which is held on 6 May~8 May

Hihi fellow Penangite rclxms.gif
For RM3k,
Best would be the 14" HP DV4
HP Pavilion Dv4, i5-2410M + AMD HD6750@RM2899
HP Pavilion Dv4, i7-2620M + AMD HD6750@RM3599 (someone selling around RM2.7k in Garage Sales)

As for 15", you might wanna top up to RM3.2k for the better N53Sn and HP DV6 nod.gif
Asus N53Sn, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT550M@RM3299 [Bang & Olufsen]
HP DV6-6001TX, i7-2630QM + AMD HD6770@RM3699 [Beats], Beats headphones; RM3199 without Beats headphones

yaya..you got the point too..
but normally use at home, so battery life is not a method for me..
if not so big different, i5 is enough for gaming and so on.. rclxms.gif
*
If you're only using it for gaming, i5 would be enough...
Unless you're using some processor-intensive programs, there's noneed for i7 laugh.gif
Also, you might want to reduce the heat if you're into gaming, another no for i7

Not very sure about the ones used in the engineering field... but for my field, some bioinformatic programs e.g. PAUP, Mr. Bayes etc. are quite processor-intensive, involves alot of calculations which takes months to finish sometimes laugh.gif

My old Acer died on me so need to get new laptop. Could you guys please suggest what laptops is suitable for me?

1. Brand - Anything BUT Acer

2. Budget - RM2 - 2.5K. The less the better because I want to upgrade the warranty to as long as possible. Bad experience coz my Acer spoiled one month after my 1-year warranty expire. Damn heart pain. haha

3. Specs - as good as it can. But if I need to state - more than 2GB RAM

4. Size - 14"

Will be using it alot for my studies (bio stuff). A lot of softwares for phylogenetic analyses and these are statistical tools, so quite tedious and complicated sleep.gif. Other than that, only normal surfing and watching movies.

Help, thanks!
*
Hihi fellow bioinformatician laugh.gif
You might want to consider these (Acer included since some models come with 3 years warranty):

Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2249, 3 years local limited warranty
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2399, [6-cell 4400mAH] (2 years international warranty)
Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2349, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 12 May
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999

Its best to go for those with better processors and dedicated GPU (GPGPU may help in bioinformatic tools as well iinm)
So the underlined ones would be the best pick, you could always ask for RAM upgrades, the more the merrier for analysis nod.gif

Though if I were you I'd save more money and opt for this one instead:

is dat true?

He probably know better than us nod.gif Still, not released doesn't mean no more stock hehe
Well, the thing is there's not much, if any performance differences between the 1GB and 2GB GT540M GPU nod.gif
So its down to the difference in battery capacity now

It's weird how ASUS is teasing us. I've been waiting for quite a long time to lay my eyes on that babe.
I saw the N53SV during PC Fair though, played with the speakers and it just sounds bad compared to Dell's JBL
Both tested at the Intel PC Guru thing.
*
I dunno what Asus Malaysia is doing vmad.gif
I've waited until gave up already haha cry.gif
Yeap, apparently the JBL speakers in Dell are much better than that of Asus...
Personally I think the harman/kardons in Toshibas are also better than the B&Os hmm.gif
Have you tried out harman/kardons bro? rclxms.gif

Well, it means if you're only using the laptop for normal stuffs like Microsoft office, surf net, Facebook games, you don't need such high specs, especially the dedicated graphic card... You'll only need that when you intend to play games (real games) on the laptop laugh.gif
So I would recommend you to focus more on the processor (get i5 if possible), warranty and design icon_rolleyes.gif

These are already in the Asus brochure, so they' be around smile.gif
You could always pre-order from stores as well...
The thing is that the Asus Gaming Series laptops were always too overpriced compared to those from other countries (you save money even by importing the same thing from other countries compared to buying locally)... but with the new promotion now, it'll be well worth it nod.gif

Originally my budget was around RM 3k but I realized that I do not require such a powerful computer. Can save the money and easily buy another RM 1.5k laptop in 2-3 years if this one spoils. So what is the best buy for a laptop for around RM 1600? I am interested in:

Acer 4750, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM1549, FreeDOS
G470, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM1599, FreeDOS

My usage is for university work such as word processing, presentations, web surfing, picture editing, 720p movies/videos, some adobe photoshop. Are these laptops powerful enough for my purpose? Btw, I only intend to play very few games, from notebookcheck, i see the Intel HD3000 can handle Fifa11 so should be no problems for dota also.

Also, anyone know of the battery life of these laptops? With second gen i3 and integrated gc only can I expect 4-5 hours?
*
These would be better I think laugh.gif With the warranty, you can be sure that it'll last at least 3 years laugh.gif
Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999 (Top up yourself to get 3 years warranty)

Yes, it does come with i5-2410M, but it also comes with an Nvidia GT525M dedicated GPU which you don't need laugh.gif
You can shave a small amount of money of the total budget if you just stick to the integrated Intel HD3000 GPU which is already very good for normal usage nod.gif
Well, you can look for features like USB3.0, speaker quality, build and craftsmanship... but don't expect too much from budget laptops laugh.gif

So you would recommend an i5 processor instead? Because warranty to me is not extremely important. Would an i5 handle the tasks better since I am only using it for really basic stuff. Hmm, no option for freeDOS?
*
Well, it'll come in handy since you did mentioned you'll be using Photoshop laugh.gif
And yes it will generally handle tasks better smile.gif
Hmmm, to me, warranty is everything.... you buy 3 years warranty, then you can be sure that the laptop will serve you for 3 years.... unless if you're the ones who tend to change laptops often, only then the warranty is not so important... But then again if your laptop still has warranty coverage when you sell it, it'll fetch a higher price...
Oh, those don't come with FreeDOS...
MSI FX420, i5-2410M + AMD HD6470@RM2099, FreeDOS/RM2299(W7HP), 3 years warranty

okay,hmm...beside the graphic card, the rest is okay?

The speakers kind of soft for the L745, but its kind of expected for laptops at this price range nod.gif
To make it simple, just survey, and choose one of these:
Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999 (ask for warranty extension to 3 years)
Asus A43Sj, i3-2310M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999 (2 years international warranty)
Dell Inspiron 14R, i3-2310M + Intel HD 3000@RM1949 (purchase online and go for 3 years warranty top up)
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999 (ask for warranty extension to 3 years)
If really want Toshiba, then:
Toshiba Satellite L745-1049U, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM2099, 2 years warranty (1st year global) (top up to 3 years warranty)
