but the GPU is not that good though... I recommend you to atleast get a 14" laptop... about ~2.2KG only... not that heavy actually... some more you have more choices...

correct me if i'm wrong... tongue.gif
*
You're not wrong, we do have more flexibility in terms of choices when it comes to 14"...
But some people would prefer smaller laptops... its all because of the size, rather than the weight nod.gif

How about it's cooling ability compare to A-series and N-series? I think A-series and N-series should be better? hmm.gif
*
Yeap, I think the A and N series should have better cooling... U series will probably be hotter because of its slim design hmm.gif

I'm more concerned about my HDD sometimes. The temps are hotter than other brands of the same size.

I've never had heat problems with the HDD on my previous laptops... but they say the Asus A series's can get quite hot hmm.gif

Does yours experience the "Display driver has stopped working and has recovered" problem?
If yes then try updating the Nvidia driver to the latest one (270.61) then only sell, it'll solve the problem nod.gif
Nice lappy by the way (once that problem is solved haha) laugh.gif

SSD price is dropping lately. Can get a good sized one for quite a low price now. But still when it comes to your data, high heat is bad.
Will test it out on my friend's new A43SJ.

Which is still pretty high. Najmods' Acer averages in the mid 30's.
*
Yeap, SSDs are getting cheaper... but still not cheap enough imho... I still think its not very worth it imho hmm.gif
Okay, do share with us the temps when you have them, rather curious also... I'm expecting some improvements to the new batches of A series rclxms.gif

Right now I'm eyeing on HP DV6 and Asus N54SN (but N54SN already phased out), so I would like to check if i mis-look other model that is in my spec and price range.. sweat.gif

Brand:any
Budget: 4k
size:15" or below
spec: i7 SB
bonus: battery performance, slim look
*
Its N53Sn laugh.gif
These 2 models are pretty much the best smile.gif
There's the slightly weaker HP Dv4 (14" as well) nod.gif

Brand:any
Budget: maximum 2.5k
size:13" or 14"
weight: less than 2.2kg
spec: Sandy Bridge
graphic: Intel HD 3000, without Discrete graphic oso no problem.(Not for gaming)
bonus: Battery > 5 hours

Actually Im looking at 4830TG...But the thing is I dont want the discrete GC..I just want a integrated HD3000 for my daily usage.

Others features of 4830TG such as weight, proc, size and battery fits my requirement..& Malaysia doesn't have 4830T..any other brand/model similar to this timelinex but without discrete GC? that offered battery life & light weight??

thanks
*
If only the Acer 3830T is here, it'd be perfect sad.gif
But its available in Singapore though haha~
The Vostro lee_what2004 sifu suggested would be the best at the moment nod.gif

As what information I got is that internal batteries aren't that practical if you do game on it a lot
I guess maybe the heat will roast up your batteries  sweat.gif

Well, the thing is, even the Alienware M11x and M14x also have integrated batteries laugh.gif

LOL There are no perfect laptops I guess?
But still, the 4830TG seems to be satisfying... what's the use if you have a 540M GT with 2GB VRAM and you don't game?
*
Well, with the introduction of gaming, laptops are getting close to perfect now nod.gif
Yeap, no point getting a laptop with a GT540M and not using it at all laugh.gif
So the question now turns to why Acer din't bring in them Acer 3830T laugh.gif

Not sure whether it bundles with external optical drive or not, but you could always bargain if it doesn't... How much did the shop offer you for the laptop? hmm.gif
As for prices of external optical drives, do refer here: http://images.lowyat.net/pricelist/cycom.pdf

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a laptop just for internet surfing. My dad needed one (14" maybe since he got farsightedness!). Budget less than rm1.5k. Thanks!
*
Toshiba Satellite C640-1023U, P6200 + Intel HD@RM1599, W7HP, 2nd & 3rd year warranty
You should be able to get a price of RM1.5k after bargaining... recommended this one because of being non-FreeDOS as well as the free 2nd &3rd year warranty thumbup.gif

need some advice and recommendations

buying a laptop this week budget around 1500-2000...

using it for college...light gaming/ HD movies/3D modelling..
*
You might wanna take a look at these:
Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
Asus A43Sj, i3-2310M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999
Dell Inspiron 14R, i3-2310M + Intel HD 3000@RM1949
HP Pavilion G4, i3-2310M + AMD HD6470@RM1999
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
Toshiba Satellite L745-1049U, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM2099, 2 years warranty (1st year global)

Which one to choose depends on your priorities, whether you emphasize more on "light gaming" or "3D modelling"
I think 3D modelling depends on on the CPU (please correct me if I'm wrong); and of course gaming depends on the GPU nod.gif

CPU: i5-2410>i3-2310
GPU: GT520M>HD6470>Intel HD3000

one question, i5-2537M is ulv type isnt it? how good u guys think will it run photoshop cs5?
*
Based on available benchmarks, the i5-2537M is slightly weaker than the i3-330M (non-ULV)... which is rather impressive I would say for a ULV nod.gif
Well, the latest SB processors are capable of offering decent battery life already I would say... unless you're aiming for those very slim-type laptops nod.gif
You can always add more RAM for better performance for Photoshop
