I'm looking a small like 14" notebook yet powerful and abit lighter for my dad

1. Brand.
HP laptop

2. Budget.
Around rm3.5k

3. Specs.
Sandy Bridge processor if possible
Longer battery life
Not that heavy

4. Size.
less or equal 14".
*
Acer 4830TG @m2499
Asus U41Sv @Rm2899

More or less the same specs and battery life so it's up to design =)

Hi, i need some recommendation in choosing a suitable laptop...
1. Brand - any brand with a reliable spec is acceptable for me smile.gif

2. Budget - around 2.5k but now over 3k

3. Spec - i5 or i7 is cool for me but best is still i7 la smile.gif ,
for graphic that is able to support games like Fifa11 or company of heroes.
Don't mind on the battery life.
2gb RAM at least but the best is with 4gb RAM and a 500GB hdd capacity.
14" and above is minimun for screen but i would prefer 15" =D.

Any reply will be much appreciated...

One question, is the performance boost of the i7 noticeable compared to the i5?

Thinking of just getting the i5 17" instead of the i7 15".
*
Depends what's ur usage, some engineering softwares or rendering softwares would benefit from the quad cores.. Most games won't have much difference unless they're those console potted ones..

since Acer Aspire 4830TG is not coming to pcfair next week i was thinking about Acer Aspire 4750G. is it recommended? meet my poor budget somehow and i'm a half hardcore gamer
*
Hmm.. Dell inspiron 15r with 6630M would still be a better choice.. If you're even a half gamer, 520M won't be good enough for you..

Haha actually performance also one of my main priorities..multiple tabs and plenty of tasks running smoothly would be good. Ill have a look at the acer. Seems to be very affordable. Any other options i can compare?
*
plenty of tasks running smoothly n multi tabs then CPU is ur main priority, go for the MSI model then...

The Acer one is still using last generation CPU, but wins in terms of gaming cause 520M is better than HD6470, it's the laptop with the best GPU for 1.7k also..

Yup, if can up budget until 2.5k, then 4830TG is really poisonous...

If can up until 2.35k, then Dell 14R is a very good choice as well..
http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...piron-14r-n4110

If 2.25K, you can get Acer 4750G..

why the laptop dont just put the HP logo but instead of putting the compaq? what that for?
hey , got what colour? last time i remeber got the yuckie brown and it look darn freaking ugly by patching with the black keyboard .... got any colour still?
*
Because Compaq used to be a laptop manufacturer on their own until HP bought them over... And now it's to distinguish between a lower line and a higher line... Just like designer's brand, all the Prada, YSL etc, they're all under Gucci Group but they still retain their own names lol..

QUOTE(reality666 @ Apr 11 2011, 04:00 PM)
Asus N53sn is top of my list now.... however i learn from the forum here i7 not that suitable for gaming compared to i5
correct me if i'm wrong since i'm quite bad in this
So i'm looking for alternatives or 2nd opinion. Thanks for the advice anyway...
*
It would definitely be better in gaming, just that between i5 and i7 you won't get much improvement in FPS because gaming mostly depends on GPU... Unless your game is those CPU hungry games like GTA 4..
For gaming purposes, N53SN is pretty much the only choice now with GT550M...

I saw previously someone got the 1066 Mhz paired with his 1333 Mhz.

Then it means he's getting 4GB DDR3 downclocked to 1066 Mhz leh. That's a lot of 4GB sad.gif

Where to get that program to check?
*
Depends what ur laptop is la.. I5 dual core only supports 1066.. Only i7-quad can support 1333mhz

Yea business & family use. But most likely i can get i3 for 2.2k . Another 200 i get this already oh. Though its abit high end. The pricing is good. Hope im making good choice. this is for my brother. At first wanted to get Apple Mac. So i hope this could be a good match to it
*
If only for casual gaming there's a cheaper option Acer 4750G i5-2410m + 520M

For 2.35k, there's dell 14R i5+ hd6630m also not bad for gaming..

For 2.4k, there's Asus a43sv similar specs as 4820Tg but battery life less
