'morning everyone,

Great thread on the credit cards rclxms.gif been following it for some time and Gen-X's blog before I decided to apply my first credit card.

If it's ok, I would like to ask for some advice regarding the security of credit cards.

My first try of application is for HSBC Amanah credit card. After two weeks I called the CS to enquire about the application status. The CS said that the application card has been denied. I asked the CS if there'll be any emails to inform that the application has been denied as proof. The CS replied no, there won't be any emails to notify me about that. Is it necessary for me to request for an email to state that or I'm just being over-worried?

My second application is for MBB2 Gold cards. Checked my system frequently, and it has just been approved yesterday smile.gif
I will be collecting it at a branch. About the collection method, I have heard of differing opinions. Some said it is not safe to collect it from the banks, while some says it otherwise. Besides, if we collect it from the banks, how do we know if the card has not been tampered with?

Previously I read it somewhere in one of the threads, it seems that we also need to sign and write the 3 digit code at a form? Would that expose the credit card security features? If the cards were posted, then there's no hassle of filling up the form and returning it. So, when collecting it at the branch, can we just not sign the form? tongue.gif

Thank you~

haha, you kiasu fellow just like me. Don't worry too much, just go collect the card at the branch and you'll be required to sign on the acknowledgement form that comes together with the card in front of the officer, SOP for all banks . And thank you for reading my blog. And since you are there, might as well sign up for online and MBB just introduce some new security features for their M2U.

well, i've heard a lot of horror stories on credit card ma tongue.gif I was not sure if I should apply for one because I don't want to end up in debt accidentally, haha. Self-discipline very important. Yup, I saw the new security features.

i feel it's safer to collect from the bank.
I don't recall needing to provide the CVV upon collection of the cards. Only signature was required. Besides, they open the letter in front of me.

Alright, noted.

yay! finally got my MBB2Card Gold rclxms.gif

I will try it this Saturday.

By the way, I just noticed that for MBB2Card Amex, there is a 4 digit number on top of the American Express logo in front. What is that number for? It is not the security number, isn't it?
And at the back of it, the full CC number is written at the back, together with the 3 digit security number. Does it mean that if once a person copied that number at the back, they'll be able to make transaction using your credit card (without the physical credit card?)

As for the MBB2Card Visa, there is also a 4 digit number on top of the 'member since' in the front. Does anyone know what number is this?

Also, I asked the CS how to register for the e-statement as I do not want paper statement (which is by default option). She asked me to register it through M2U. I tried checking under 'Statements' and 'Bills & Credit cards', but couldn't find it. Anyone have registered for the e-statement option before?

Appreciate your replies smile.gif Thank you.

It's the 4-digit number that you need to key in if you perform an online payment using AMEX. The 3-digit number at the back has no useful purpose as far as I know up to know.

Ok, noted.

i realize the back of the card at signature side have very limited space for me to sign as the numbers are printed in the signature column at the top..
*
Yalor, the space for signature is quite small (Amex's).

I am still waiting for my first statement, just reached one month since card approval. However, there is still no info about it in M2U.

Payment due date:  N/A
Statement date:  N/A

Is this normal? Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing too.

To make u no worry. U can just call CS ask ur statement date is when
*
Took beyond86's advice and called the CS. In my case, my statement's date is on the 24th of every month (the statement date varies from one individual to another). So, I will have 20 days after the statement date to pay off the amount.

Oh ya, I forgot to ask the CS just now. Is it possible to clear off the amount before the statement date (in my case, before the 24th)? tongue.gif Is it advisable? Have anyone tried it before? if yes, what will the outstanding amount? RM 0.00? hmm.gif

Another thing is, let's say I have paid the amount on the 26th, how long does it usually take for the system to update this? Through online banking, for instance.

My statement is 28th every month, but im always fully settle the outstanding balance before 28th, sometime even paid more than outstanding balance.
I paid over counter, it updated in M2U immediately
*
I see. That's good. I wanted to do that, but not sure if can or not. Thanks for the clarification.
In that case, does your statement appear as RM 0.00? If you sometime pay more than the outstanding balance, does it appear as -RMx.xx?
Just curious.

Yes. You can clear your outstanding before the statement date but i don't get why do you want to do that. The bank is generous enough to give you 20 days counting from then statement date for you to settle your outstanding balance. So, why not take advantage of it ? I always pay like 2-3 days before the due date  biggrin.gif
It depends on the 26th for that particular month falls on which day and is the next day a public holiday ? And also the time you transferred the money out through online banking, whether you did that before the bank's cut-off time or after. You can learn more about Interbank GIRO (IBG) in this thread.
*
Well, previously I was swiping my cards happily. And the amount of money in my savings account still untouched. So, I keep thinking I have that amount of money. Then, each time I swipe the card, I have to keep in mind that I still have this much of actual amount after deduction, so I do not overspend and put myself in debt. That is why I thought of settling it earlier. Not a good idea? hmm.gif

Alright, I will refer to the IBG thread. Thanks for the info.

As long as you spend within your means, you don't need to keep looking at your bank account balance.
Are you a shopping maniac? tongue.gif
*
Ahem, first time cc user ma biggrin.gif that's why feel excited.

Nope, I am not (because I can't afford to be a shopping maniac), although sometimes very tempted tongue.gif But, I will try to get it off my mind by walking around the shopping centre. After the temptation had subsided, then I am safe, haha.

Maybank still haven't charged my credit cards for what i purchased, lol ... Happy or Sad case ?

same here. I did the transaction on Sunday (24/4)but until now it's not charged (to my Visa).
Is it just me or I noticed that Visa transaction is always slower to be in the system (compared to Amex)?

Or it is normally slower if transaction is done over the weekends?

Yup, I agree on that. So far have you tried any transaction with your Visa (in case Amex is not accepted?). How fast is the transaction posting?

Really? I was under the impression that the rebate would be calculated by calendar month.
*
I thought so too and included the purchases I made till end of the month, but it did not tally.
Then, I tried calculating till the statement date, and the amount is right smile.gif

Let's see what the others say about their rebates.
