Guys,

I recently switched to Motafoca Dev Team's newest rom release, 2.0.9 Final and also applied the compass fix.

I am surprised at how solid this custom rom is in terms of performance and reliability. I say 'surprised' because I have heard and read several reports from people saying that this rom is slow, buggy, etc. whereas I have experienced it to be quite suitable for daily use.

So I want to ask those of you who are using or have used Motafoca's custom roms, what are your experiences? Was there anything in particular that you did (tweaks/customizations) that you did to improve performance? Do you think this rom is better or worse than stock eclair?

Thank you for your responses thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

i'm using 2.0.9 final too, it is extremely faster than previous version (i've try 2.0.7 ,2.0.8 , 2.0.9 beta2 before). And the compass fix is really fix the compass problem that make me troublesome on froyo. So I have no reason to switch back to old firmware.

A big Thanks to motafoca and all development team in MAD Team.
*
This makes me think all the negative comments I heard before are about prior versions. 2.0.9 seems like a good, stable release biggrin.gif

QUOTE(curiouso9 @ Mar 15 2011, 12:21 AM)
im installed almost 150 apps. many service though, plus live wallpaper. yea. feel a bit lag. but its better than stock android. after i tweak internal memory behavior and enable swap (128mb). now my device always have 80 + mb available memory. so now its faster than ever.  flex.gif
*
I haven't tried swap or alternative file systems yet. Too lazy sweat.gif Does it really make a difference?

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Mar 15 2011, 12:42 AM)

Did you move dalvik cache, I have 100++ apps but only 20mb left
*
I also experience very low phone memory. Is it because the rom is much larger than stock?

For those who can't wait for the official rom, motafoca's effort deserves a try. i was hesitant at first to do phone flashing and all that, but it turned out to be quite easy. even noobs like me can do it doh.gif

It does, if you have too many service run in background plus you having a super lag phone. lol. i tried it about 3 days just now. i feel a bit awesome. however you can read other people comment here : http://www.appbrain.com/app/swapper-2-%28f...lv.n3o.swapper2

better use this first.. swappiness when there no alternative, its shorten sd card lifespan.

use minfreemanager, here guide : http://www.androidcentral.com/fine-tuning-...s-multi-tasking

or AutoMemoryManager. (im using it now) fast phone.. test your own config that you comfort with. its so easy. smile.gif
*
sweet, already using minfreemanager. don't think i need that much free ram though laugh.gif i keep my phone running pretty lean to save battery

need help here..... what do you mean by move selected apk and its dalvik-cache to second partition ? what is dalvik-cache ? what is second partition ? Thanks.
*
"move selected apk and its dalvik-cache to second partition ?"

Move selected application and its cache to a second partition on the sd card, formatted with ext2/ext3/ext4 (used to overcome the problem of limited phone storage).

"what is dalvik-cache ?"

Basically, just cache used by android applications for faster and smoother operation. It partly relates to how the java vm interprets and runs the apps.

"what is second partition ?"

A second partition created by the user on the sd card to expand storage space for applications and app data. This is what App2sd and link2sd does

Ow, thanks a lot man... wink.gif

one more thing... a second partition on the sd card... so do you mean there's 2 partition on the sd card and you can only move your apps to that partition ? the other partition will be useless ?
*
The other partition will be the regular FAT partition where regular files i.e. music, photos, videos, downloads, other files are stored.

For example, I'm using the supplied 2gb sd card that came with the phone. I resized the FAT partition to be 1.5gb and added a 500mb ext2 partition.
I store my files i.e. music and papago maps/data in the FAT partition and install applications on the other partition. icon_rolleyes.gif

This should explain it nicely

can giv some guide on wifi teathering?
*
Despite froyo having wifi tethering built in, I still use Barnacle Wifi Tether (requires root) because of easy access.

That said, is there an app that lets me create homescreen shortcuts to specific submenus in settings?

Galaxy 5 is like a gateway phone to android. most will eventually be tempted to upgrade.
i myself am seriously looking to get a galaxy ace once the price stabilizes again.
won't ever sell this phone though unless something goes wrong

Guys, sorry for noob question.

ROM 2.0.9 FINAL aka MAD team vs Eclair (2.1)
- will it solve for problem of running out of internal memory for apps? (FYI i dont have any other game other than angry bird.lol.the rest are just social networking like fb,twitter, foursquare etc)

- how bout battery performance? my current battery life only last for 1 day and half. most of the time when im outside i switch off my mobile network..only when im home, i open wifi
*
even on stock rom, eclair 2.1, you can try using app2sd or link2sd to expand application storage.
however, neither of these was a straightforward experience for me. had to make some tweaks to get them working.

as for battery life, i don't see too much of an improvement when using mad team rom. slightly better, but turning off sync and background apps still makes a bigger difference. however, this is only my feeling. i haven't actually done proper battery tests.

I have been trying for days to get link2sd to work on my G5 but keep getting cannot mount 2nd partition message. I use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition to partition the sdcard. iI have got a 8gb sandisk card. i have set both partition to primary, i have tried set 2nd partition as fat32, ext2, above 1gb size, below 1gb size, below 512mb, 400mb, etc. all those combination does not work for me. you are my last hope. can share with me what is the tweaks that u have done to make it work? pleaseeeeeeee! thanks!!

what firmware you use??
i think if stock official eclair link2sd cannot be use..
i had try many thing but no luck...=.=
even universal androot or z4root....
any advice?
*
I got link2sd working on eclair rom.
there was no problem with rooting.
the issue was in the script that link2sd installs. it had to be edited slightly

/etc/install-recovery.sh

"sleep 2" >> "sleep 10"

then everything was dandy

i think on eclair, the second partition cant be detected correctly, so given more time on reboot to make sure system detect it.
*
this kind of thing happens all the time with linux, when scripts run before the partitions are all loaded up into fstab

how to edit?

err... i used a terminal emulator and vi editor.
would appreciate it if someone gave an easier method.
i don't use root explorer so i don't know if that works

Making Link2SD work on Galaxy 5 (Eclair 2.1)

Get Root, install Link2SD and follow the instructions/requirements
Run Link2SD so that it creates the startup scripts

After this is where we reboot but Link2SD still doesn't work

Method 1

1. Install Root Explorer
Its not free but you can find it floating around.
2. Open root explorer and go to /etc folder
3. Tap the 'Mount R/W' button on the top right.
4. Find 'install-recovery.sh'. Tap and hold the file until the options menu appears. Select 'Open in Text Editor'

CODE
#!/system/bin/sh
#added by link2sd
sleep 2
mount -t ext2 ......
........

5. Change line 3 which reads 'sleep 2' to 'sleep 10' or more like 'sleep 20' if it doesn't work
6. Save changes and reboot

Method 2

1. Open Terminal Emulator and type

CODE
$ su
# mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

2. Use a file manager like ES File Explorer to open /etc/install-recovery.sh and edit it like steps 4,5 & 6 from Method 1

3. Undo the changes we did to file permissions in terminal emulator

CODE
$ su
# mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Yeah..i got it d..haha..thx thx..
*
I am glad that it works for you guys.

If I'm not mistaken, /system/etc/ and /etc/ are likely two links to the same folder. So the files inside both folders are not duplicates, but actually the same file.

I've flashed to 2.09 using the following steps :-
After finished flashing I proceed to the App2sd step. Then i've found that my Sdcard space drop to 2.86GB (mine is 4gb sdcard). the internal memory is 107MB.. Using Madteam app2sd i've allocate 500mb for apps2sd Script/ 200MB for Swap Script.  Is in normal my sd card space drop to 2.86??

By the way, why my sdcard  total space is the same like available space? both are 2.86GB. Seems like the're no files inside.. Blank sdcard.. Have i done something wrong? where're my files inside sdcard before? waaaa.... lost all my files lorrrr... including backup files..  ohmy.gif
*
That free space seems about right after allocating 700mb for swap and apps.
Unfortunately, you have formatted your sd card so yes, your data is gone.
If you have some really important files on there, they may still be accessible via recovery software

Anyone know how we can get Tiger King emulators for GBA/NES/SNES/etc
Searched in market but cannot find...
My wife bought Optimus One, and now she taunts me about apps that aren't available for us QVGA phones cry.gif cry.gif
We use the same carrier and are in the same region... so I posit that the reason for missing apps is the phone resolution
Is there a workaround to these restrictions?
