I got link2sd working on eclair rom.
there was no problem with rooting.
the issue was in the script that link2sd installs. it had to be edited slightly

/etc/install-recovery.sh

"sleep 2" >> "sleep 10"

then everything was dandy

how to edit?

this kind of thing happens all the time with linux, when scripts run before the partitions are all loaded up into fstab
err... i used a terminal emulator and vi editor.
would appreciate it if someone gave an easier method.
i don't use root explorer so i don't know if that works

vi editor in linux? aiks..i duno how to connect it to suse linux thru vmware server..

ooh cool.... i'm updating it now!! will see if it's froyo soon enough.....

just showing me a yellow android now with the words "Downloading".... I think JP6 IS froyo... see this link for Galaxy S:
http://www.dkszone.net/how-to-upgrade-sams...royo-using-kies

update: after 2 attempts with the screen showing the "downloading" for almost an hour, i tried something else (praying that my g5 is not bricked!). removed the batt, removed the SD card & SIM card, then factory reset it first. Then connected to KIES again, and on 3rd attempt, it downloaded the firmware and updated it in about 15 mins estimated time, I didn't time, just an estimation. Nothing shown on the display at this time, unlike the first 2 times showing "downloading".

After a reboot, now it's running on FROYO! About Phone shows:

Android 2.2
Build Number FROYO.DXJP6.

Gonna test it further tomorrow. Good night and good luck!!
