smile.gif Hi to all dearly Lowyat Members, i had conducted a research to know about the Toyota Estima which we can normally saw in reconditioned car dealer at Malaysia.

rclxms.gif According from my salesman said that, our estima was imported directly from Japan and will be the Japan Spec.

According to my research, the Japan spec available in two different specs which are Toyota Estima 2.4 and Toyota Estima 3.5 V6 engine.

The salesman let me knew that the 2.4 version used the 7th speed gear box. But in singapore and taiwan toyota, i only can find the 2.4 version but only containing 4th gear box only.

I would like to know that the 7 speed can make our fuel efficiency better? What is the different between 4th gear and 7th gear? i should choose 2.4 version or 3.5 V6 version?

Anyone can give me any opinion about it?

Currently i'm feel interested with the year 2006 and 2007. Because year 2009 is too expensive and the shape almost lookalike.

Fuel efficiency will be quite important to me and the second choice is design. I like the estima's aerodynamic design and smart enough on the road.

I would like to know is that Estima spare parts available?

Thank you
Have a nice day
Just give out your opinion .

about the gear, 7 speeds has better fuel efficiency. the difference between 7 speed and 4 speed is have 3 more speeds than 4 speed gearbox. for the engine type, you can choose 2.4 if you can't pay for the road tax because 3.5 V6 road tax is likely RM2k per annual.

I think you just simply blast your comment without having any detailed knowledge about cars, right? Firstly, yes 7-speed transmission will give better fuel consumption than 4-speed, not just because it has 3 more speed than 4-speed, but it's because more gears mean it can keep the engine at low revs while moving the car, so it means not much fuel is needed to move the car. Secondly, road tax for 3.5 litre car is rm4k+.

I drove the 2.4 w/ 7-speed before... it is CVT and same gearbox used on current Altis 7-speed.

Pickup is marvelous and very instant unlike any CVT cars I drove (worse is the Teana and City). Plus, it shifts like a regular auto (very smooth to boot).

V6 is always much smoother in power and also makes a better cruiser during long distance, the more power the less stressful it is to drive as you don't have to work the engine and gearbox too much, esp if you set cruise control.

When comes to hills it won't hunt for gears with enough power

Correct but u pay more for road tax and fuel. Plus, resale value for big CC cars are lower than their smaller counterpart.

IMO, I don't believe in paying more road tax based on CC... after all, it is even more than property tax!

Plus, the G abused taxes for their own benefits. I only pay enough... not more and not less.

Even my previous BMW 730i E32 was under declared as 2000cc and pay only RM 384 per year. After I sold off the car, new buyer damn happy... because he will save up to RM 1.7k per year in road tax alone.

Driving the 03' 3.0 V6 version. Spare parts can be easily found at spare parts shop. No worries on that. On the gearbox though, got no idea.. mine has only 4 gears sad.gif

The 3.0 share the same parts as the '01 Harrier. I know because I replaced my '01 Harrier with '03 Estima gearbox after it went kaput (stuck on 3rd gear and slip at all RPMs).

Estima 3.5 roadtax is RM2.1K+ per year

FC is very high if you drive like Michael Schumacher, but bearable if you drive slowly. About 450km if you drive 120km/h full highway for around RM90+ Ron95 fuel. If you prefer Michael's speed, my record was about 270km for about the same fuel.

is there any problem for using Estima 2.4 07 /08? I hear that the electronic steeling wheel got lots of problem and to replace the parts is quit costly and not lasting.

My machenic told me this above and have the same problem on the electronic steel wheel system on my Mazda 2. I already claimed from Mazda twice and the problem still there after a while of new parts replaced.

FYI, roadtax for SUV & MPV is cheaper than Sedan, coupe, hatch etc....

Example

(SEDAN) Honda Accord 2.0 roadtax = RM 800++

(SUV) Kia Sorento 2.4 roadtax = RM 700++
