There are similarities between Roo and Scholes,

1) Both played as a striker
2) Both have similar range of pass
3) Both have the ability to shoot

I think he can make it in the midfield. We've seen SAF switched his player's preferred postion before (Alan Smith, Scholes), so it would be interesting if Rooney plays as a midfielder. I do think SAF have that thought in mind considering Carrick's now switched to a more holding role.

Scholes did play as striker during his early years with United, in fact, when Cantona was suspended for the famous/infamous kungfu kick incident he was then again needed in the striker's dept as Andy Cole's strike partner due to Mark Hughes departure.

SAF never really tried Rooney at middle of the park as a play-maker, but we can see glimpse of his awareness of spotting a teammate out wide and spraying accurate cross field passes. He has all the qualities of a good midfielder. As for him playing out wide, he is not a natural winger a-la Nani or Tony, that's why he find it difficult playing on the flanks. When Keano was around, Scholes also acts as a supporting role to the strikers or striker depending on the formation played. We can see evidence in the 02-03 season where he scored a lot of goals either from forward position or midfield. i think Rooney can do the same with Carrick being the holding midfielder and I would love to see that.

i think Chelsea had 'easiest' run in, ON PAPER. but that wont matter this season. at least 8 relegation battlers, 6 teams still in contention for top 4. these team willing to kill each others and playing out of their skin to achieve their objective. always expect the unexpected result.

Man City no longer a threat for championship. i believe they will focus securing the top 4, and go 110% in FA Cup. we can see they were playing for a draw yesterday.

last month, some said Arsenal had easier run in. but they lost points to teams they expect to beat (WBA, Newcastle). injuries crippling them right now. United had some key injuries too, but international break are perfectly timing for us. defensive department are very worrying, but most our attacking personnel are coming back. even M.Owen is ready to play.

derby in SF FA Cup will be huge distraction. SAF is willing consider to field youngster /fringe for that match IF the opponent not Man City (like he did 2 years ago, vs Everton).. and the problem is, that (most of the) youngster /fringe players currently occupying our first XI /matchday squad.
