QUOTE(azarimy @ Jan 18 2014, 05:29 PM) i assume you've just completed your SPM, correct? Thanks for the explaination. Appreciated.i highly recommend you to take STPM or matrics, as more options will open up for you then. as an SPM leaver, your option to study architecture in IPTA is only UiTM at the moment. and that's only if you're bumiputera. else, IPTS is the other option, or go the polytechnic way. after that, whether UiTM is on part with UTM doesnt matter anymore, as long as all of them are accredited by LAM. |

I'm considering STPM since my SPM result is quite bad, 1A, 6B, 1C. Just curious, which Mathematics, Technology (T) or Management (M), should I take? Besides Physics, Chemistry and Art, which subject will be useful in architectural studies?

Hi Mr Azarimy, can I use B4 paper instead of A3 for my portfolio? It's the same size of drawing block.

Mr. Azarimy, how long do you advice a Part 1 (BSc. Arch) holder to work before pursuing their Part 2 (M. Arch)?
Oh, and B. Arch is a first professional degree right? And BSc. Arch is a pre-professional degree. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jul 25 2014, 06:15 AM) a year usually would already result in a great improvement among the students. personally, i'd say 2 years, because it would allow the student to observe buildings from the initiation stage right into the completion of the construction works. even better if he has had a hand in it too. I see. One more thing, which one do you advice students to further for Part 2, B. Arch or M. Arch?BSc. Arch is a professional degree. it's just of a lower level, which only allows one to become an assistant architect. u need a B>Arch (or M.Arch) to qualify as an architect. |

Mr Aza, I'm just wondering, if let say, I am attached to the government for 5 years, would it be best to start working with them right after Part 1 or further my Part 2 first and serve later and whom I'm gonna work for?

Mr. Aza,
I'm wondering, do you by any chance know if studio hours affects the accreditation of a university? Bcs where I'm studying right now, the studio only opens on weekdays (8am-10pm) and sunday (10am-10pm), close on saturday and public holiday, also on university holiday like midterm and etc. The rules are very tight here, we are not allowed to stay in the faculty to do our work after 11. The police bantuan will come and force us to leave. We don't have much time to do our work bcs you know, we also have classes on weekdays. Its kinda restricted our working hour and also the quality of work produced. This post has been edited by Skisz: Apr 25 2017, 03:40 AM |

I see. To have one 24 hours studio for the students to do their work would be really nice especially if submissions are approaching. We had one or two before but sadly the admin (or who ever made the choice) decided to close it down because according to them, we don't need them. I get that the admin is trying to cut down the cost due to limited budget. But yeah, I get what you're saying.

QUOTE(azarimy @ May 23 2017, 03:49 PM) As a rule, we screen everyone through for all architectural intakes in UTM, from diploma to PhD. Does *all works* means all the design projects from semester 1 till 6?What we look for is no longer about qualification, but rather verification of previous works and achievements. This is where candidates must bring all works produced in part 1, log book post part 1 including proof of the 6months compulsory industrial placement. Others would be to establish other special criteria that the candidate might have. |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Dec 22 2018, 11:36 AM) I havent. But I went to look at their programme published online. It is a postgrad programme to allow ppl to specialize into green architecture, but its not a part 2 professional programme. I see.In Malaysia, all part 2 programmes will carry the name M.Arch, not M.Sc. Also, does part 1 holder have to work as assistant architect in order to be able to pursue their master? Is it acceptable to work as a draughtsman? Will that fulfill the requirements? |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Jan 4 2019, 10:35 PM) Yes, the working experience is the requirement set by LAM. This way, schools no longer have to offer practical training within the programme and concentrate on academic enrichment. Thank u for the clarification sir.To fulfill the requirement, you have to work at least as technical assistant. Draughtsman or CAD operator is too low. You can consult anyone in the office on the difference between part 1, part 2 and diploma holder. All schools would expect you to work as a Part 1 architect assistant before joining part 2. Part of the reason is because the programme is designed in assumption that all prospective students are aware and already perform as a part 1 architects assistant. If you miss any of this, you will struggle in part 2. |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Feb 17 2019, 11:54 AM) Forgive me if that's the wrong term. What i meant was architects who work as medical planner that specializes in designing hospitals. Is there such thing? Specializing in healthcare design? |
