hi mr azarimy, is it advisable to revise spm maths and physics to prepare myself for architecture?
i know that you don't recommend specific books to read on but if you were to recommend, which book would you suggest to get me started on architecture?
*
i think what you are saying is in what form do i need to prepare my self for architecture, for me (its my personal view) its better for you to familiarise yourself with 'design'. I can see a lot of successful students or architect in the broadest sense, they have other inclinations that would help them in architecture, ie i once saw this student who loves to do graphic design whether in photoshop or manual by hand before getting into the course. i guess he learnt it druing high school or something... although you will see what he is doing doesnt relate much to the field but it do really help you to familiarize your self with the same situation which is to design, other than that practice your common sense see all over the place why this building they built it like this so and so...

i hope this would help

yeap, this helped. so what you're saying is like what tehtmc said, familiarize myself with design, design applications (autocad, photoshop etc.) thanks!
*
not necessary design applications, are going to any interview for the intake into architecture, if yes, then prepare some portfolio or things you do 'creatively' (paintings,drawing-not those anime or etc, 3d modelling, web design or anything that will show your interest in designing.)

go to youtube and watch for "how to do a good design portfolio"

theyll show lots of video showing portfolio from student from any fields that do design. youll learn alot from that..

i wish you good luck thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

well, i believe that there are numerous ways to learn architecture. even the design process alone is a vast yet unique process, where sometimes it's very hard to find a designer that designs the same way u do. tehtmc's method is known as the hands-on approach or learning-by-doing, similar to learning to ride a bicycle. in this approach, u wont learn much by reading about how to ride a bicycle until u have ridden one.

*
what i meant is design softwares, for me sketchup is the best way to learn, but autocad is a little bit too advance if you didnt have any basic knowledge

Why RIBA? You plan to practise in UK?
You still can't practise in Malaysia with RIBA Part III.
KLIUC degree is not accredited.
*
so why did some of the uni here have RIBA recognization?

same issues, if I graduated from KLIUC and i passed the Lam Part 1, is there any PART TIME master degree offer in Malaysia?
both IPTAs/ IPTSs...
*
there are part time master offer in malaysia but none of them will ever be accredited or recognized by LAM, because most of part time master were a course of specialization (ie; sustainable technology, urban planning, lighting technology, etc). the only master degree with Part 2 LAM is UiTM's Master of Architecture, other IPTAs will get it in due time.

Would u mind to tell me which Uni offer part time master degree in Malaysia and Singapore? (include specialization)
Just for long tem planning!!

Thanks!

Just dont mind the unaccredited issues 1st...
Because for me....
accredited = become boss!
unaccredited = cannot become boss!

and so far i dont plan to become boss in the futhur lor!
Even if i really plan to organize a firm (become boss) in the futhur, I may sit the LAM exam privately/individualy...

Am i right to said??
*
i think it would be better for you to sit for Part 1 LAM test, just keep all your studio works in good condition. So that you can proceed to do Part 2 LAM, and you can do this by studying in accredited course be it IPTAs or overseas.

my advice is you better study till you get into Part 2 LAM, and after that you can decide whether you want to open up a firm which will require you to pass Part 3 LAM examination, and will entitled you with Ar. in your front name...

and if you want to practice like any other architect Part 2 will suffice.

as for master's degree(specialize course), it will be like some addition to your credential/knowledge.

i hope i explain this right.

let say utar graduates able to complete the bachelor's degree in 4th year.

is it possible for them to do both part 1 and part 2 lam in 5th year or there is any restriction for them?
*
you do make alot of assumptions, better to go with stpm course and get a good grade, then you can choose any public uni you want to study to...

go for BIM software like autodesk revit or archicad.

u see, animators sits at the back of the office, doing the hardwork for the bosses. with BIM software, u become an allround consultant that could work independently. it's as if 'hire 1 person, do 3 person's work'. employers LOVE that prospect!
*
been trying BIM software, cant learn much unless got some project using it

Anyone here from lim kok wing? Few weeks ago i've posted here and considered about going to UCSI for my first degree. I enquired about the fees in LKW and its much cheaper than UCSI. But I've heard so many negative remarks about lkw and most are about "walao a lot of blackies" and "lecturers dont teach" etc etc but nothing about their architecture. Honestly, how good is their architecture?
*
honestly not good, youll regret studying there, UCSI is much more better comparing to LKW..

just because you see an ads of LKW saying that they are a "design" university doesnt mean it really producing one.

yeah seriously man, I heard so many negative stuff about LKW, I did consider heading there once. But i really wonder though cause some of my friend's work are really impressive. Their only complaints was the bad management. So speaking in terms of education for architecture, what so bad about LKW really? I'm curious.

edit: I see that you're working hard to prepare for the architectural workshop, PADI. I wish you good luck for it. Hope its all good. Have fun  thumbup.gif

portfolios are depending on your own works maybe he is just talented, i also heard it from others, but for me better go somewhere else that at least doesnt have any bad rumors about it, you just dont wanna risk that much, its your own educations and it is up to you.. reputation is everything especially in the eyes of employer

Hi Aza, Do you mind to elaborate more info about the CPD?
do we need CPD? what purpose actually the CPD?
and how we get the CPD?

Thanks For Sharing !
*
i think this CPD concerning only to graduate architects and practicing architects, as for student i dont think it applies to them much, usually architect firms will send out their emplyee or architects to attend lectures or seminar that give CPD to participants.. but i dont know waht CPD is for? PART 3 renewal i think?

So how? I thought that the PIDN (Program Ijazah Dalam Negara) scholarship will be out usually on august, and I'm aiming that scholarship. I really want to avoid taking PTPTN loans.

I just want to know whether me as a 2011 SPM leaver is qualified to apply for that scholarship for Sarjana Muda Sains (Senibina). There is no "ijazah" in my programme, so I kinda confused right now.
*
you can always apply for ptptn loan first and then when you got accepted for scholarship you can always terminate ur loan and pay what youve already accepted before.

as for JPA scholarship minimum req is 3.3 for your stpm or matrix results i think, but there a catch, once youve graduated you have to serve as governmetn servant for at least 10 years and any other government link companies.
