well technically all cards are given while not in play (coz ref would have blown the whistle to stop the game before giving cards). I think what you meant to say, an incident that is nothing to do with the match itself is being punished. technically a ref have full power, if he wants to sent off a fan coz he dont like how he looks, he can. But that is power abuse la. So the question here is, on what grounds did the referee thing what that player did is wrong?

If i am the referee i wouldnt even think of a card, i could even walk to the player and smile at him. Also not to mention the stadium staff took their time in dealing with it; walking to that streaker instead of running and chasing him? its not like that player tackled the streaker the first chance he had, they all waited for a fair amount of time. The player did exactly what the securities should have done. This ref got a lot of explaining to do, in my opinion.

Unfair & unwise as it may seems, but that's just part of the rules. The referee reacts according to the rules, if not it'll costs his job.

nah, i disagree. Like i said, referees are given full power in the 90 minutes of football. So i dont think he will be punished if he chose not to card that player. If referees who dont act according to the rules will be penalized, then that would mean the countless fouls, offsides and out balls that referee fails to spot on field, or saw but deemed not to be the case, will be penalized.

would be interested to see what will the follow up be. I believe the club would have a very strong case if they chose to appeal it.
