I spent some time viewing the Panny X30 & U30 as well as the new Sammy D490, D550, D8000, D7000.

These are my comments.

The X30 has the TrueCinema mode as does the U30. I could not really discern any major black level differences compared to 2010 models but there might be some as this was in the showroom.

The AR filters on both of these are almost non existent with the X30. Both of the sets did not have user level greyscale calibration controls

The D490 was also close to the X30 but with 3D to boot. The D550 looked the same as X30. Both did not have any form of AR filter that is worth talking about. The both of them had user level 2 point greyscale controls but no CMS

The D7000 and the D8000 looked extremely good. They both had 2 point and 10 point greyscale controls. They also had a complete 3D CMS.

Will report more when I get to spend more time on the sets later this year.

Meaning U30 got better anti reflective than X30? With street price of 2k for U30 and 1.7k for X30 (42"), which is the better choice? Or any other better choice than these two?

TQ

Went to Harvey Norman IPC to survey Panasonic plasma and really suprised by the attitude of the promoters there. Not complaining, just sharing what I thought.

1. 3-4 of them rushing to serve, something to do with commission?

2. While rushing to serve, 2 of them keep pushing each other, albeit in joking kinda way. Others just joking around. Near closing hour I guess.

3. When I show them the SD card with HD trailers I downloaded, the one who successfully grab the chance to serve me, said something like "where got ppl watch downloaded trailer one", then he show his USB harddisk with full of *ahem* HD movies and say if I buy from him he can copy all of them for me.

4. Price is higher than I found outside and not negotiable, even during promotion.

Maybe I am looking at the lower range of the tv?

Size does matters.. So, if whoever gonna buy the TV have a good ambient and doesn't mind TH-P50U30K was a bit reflective and don't need the 3D, then go for it..

42 inch VS 50 inch

user posted image

It says 50" is 41.72% larger area than 42", hmm

Guys,
Can I ask how bad is the reflection for 2011 model P42U30K?
It's a new model, with Dlna support, full HD and below 2k. Really suits my requirements.
*
what is the best price you get so far?

have seen it in jusco one u and seems that the screen is not as reflective as i thought.

for the price i think is worth it.

some more can pay mkv files.

got resolution enhancing feature (2011 model) which should be helping sd tv (astro) quality become clearer.

What movie you are playing? I really don't know.
For Astro channel switch the TV (aspect) to JUST.
For watching DVD movies, set the DVD player and TV aspect to 16:9

That is, so simple.

If still can not, just adjust your TV remote control (Aspect), just pick which one can fill up the whole screen..

Good luck..

Me watching movie, DVD or Astro or using Media Player, all without single problem.  rclxms.gif all full screen. thumbup.gif

How you know is not 720p??? If this TV is not 720p, then this tv can not call HDTV....
Do you have any prove????

X Series Resolution

Resolution of X series = 1024x768 = 0.78 mega pixel

Definiation of 720p From Wikipedia

720p = 720p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes having a resolution of 1280×720 (for a total of 0.92 megapixels or 921,600 pixels) and a progressive scan.

See this for HDTV supported resolution.

Aside from the :
- price difference
- HD (X) vs FullHD (U)
- reflectiveness you mentioned (confirmed?)

is there anything else different between the Pana 2011 X and U series?
*
If not mistaken U series got "Resolution Enhancer", suppose to make watching SD tv more enjoyable...

After seeing both side by side, in my own opnion I would say the difference is <5% wink.gif
