So in case you've been hiding under a rock, recently some footage surfaced of the extremely-pivotal-for-esports WCG USA 2005 Finals. This was THE EVENT. This was where Tasteless started his casting career, Day[9] was officially recognized to be a stone-cold baller and Artosis... well, Artosis made me cry. I swear I've watched this video more times than anything else on the internet in a long time.
Just... we've all seen Day[9]'s 100th daily, in which he speaks about this very event and the impact it had on his life... and we've all imagined it in our heads, we THOUGHT we were there with him. We were not. Now, we can be. Now, we are. And... to see the amount of passion these guys had for the game then, to see how much passion they have for this game now... it's inspiring, it really is.
For the first time, we are afforded the privilege of seeing the nervous confidence in Artosis' eyes as he's talking to the camera prematch, being right there next to Day[9], head on table, psyching himself out as he prepares for the first set, hearing Tasteless' pride and passion and love and fear for his brother, that same bond we've heard Sean speak of countless times. You can hear all these same feelings in every word these guys say, in their countenance, in their bearing. You can see, in other words, sheer, raw, unrequited love for the game. Passion like that... it doesn't come easily, nor does it come to everybody. Passion like that is what keeps the world going, is what drives revolutions and scientific advancements and happy endings to life's challenges.
We should be honored that these fine people chose to use their passion to further Starcraft, to further esports. Because without them, I guarantee we wouldn't be here today. Much respect, much love to all of these guys.
