Nile is pretty much the current "It" death metal band. Their latest album, Annihilation of the Wicked, was the best death metal album of 2005 and has sort of revitalised my passion for brutal death metal. Along with Cryptopsy, these two bands will raise the flag for death metal for many more years.
I wasn't really surprised that Igor left Sep. In fact, they should've dropped the name and form a new one. Against was all right but the rest simply stank. All and all, it's good that Igor has left to do something more to his liking as opposed to trying to live up to Sepultura's glorious past.
Hey Carpathia, why not give this band a try? Hermh - www.hermh.pl
They're quite the Emperor lovers if you know what I mean.
Nile is great, but just hate the Nile fanboyism you get in some forums. I heard something happened between the guys at the Roadrunner Forum and some Nile fanboys. Anyway for me the first death metal band I listened to was Cannibal Corpse and a friend just bought me their new album titled "Kill". Its not bad.

same here. stop listening to seps when they all go tribal...
beneath the remains is their best album imo...
while schizophrenia started me exploring more on thrash metal back in 1990...
ahhh... those schooling days...
I didnt even exist when Sepultura started out. Wasn't even born in 1990 haha. I even got the Roots album years after Max left. Guess im a metal n00b, anyway a person has to begin somewhere.
Btw, anybody here buys the Revolver magazine? Damn, Ive been buying it every month for the past half a year and was wondering why the heck Metalcore is overrated, a metalcore band is on the front cover almost every month (eg. Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold). Just look at Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold. When Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach were dying out there comes those Metalcore bands. And oh yea, one Metal Hammer issue gave a HIM album 9/10. Can't remember which album it was though.
