I have my I9003 for three days now. Overall it is a great phone with fast internet browsing, nice preloaded Android applications and problem free setting up of email. But I have a weird problem..phone gets hot..I mean hot and each time I answer calls I cannot put the phone close to my face! Is it because there are applications still running? The on/off button to activate the screen is also too sensitive..cannot press too hard or too long..causes phone to reboot. Laptop cannot recognise the phone and had to download a Samsung driver in order to install it. Connecting to Samsung's KIES was another pain. It took sometime to recognise the I9003. Was told by my phone shop to use an external card reader to download stuff into my micro SD card instead of using my laptop. Anyone have similar problems?

thanks for your feedback. im also planning so buy this phone for quite some time ady. sad.gif
but regarding the hot-ness of your phone, it might be serious. because a phone should not get hot just by a phone call. is ur phone ori or ap?
*
It's an ori set. Gave up trying to fix it..and brought the phone back to the shop. Getting a new set. Maybe it was because when I tried to get my laptop to recognise and install the driver for my I9003, it messed up the software in the phone. The shop guy told me never to hook up to the laptop when transferring files. But how to update firmware then? Read that Samsung may upgrade the firmware to Froyo 3.0 rclxms.gif

Hello friends, where is the CALENDAR on this phone ya? i cannot find it anywhere. Want to create memo.

In the home screen, hold the page with the tip of your finger and slide your finger to the right..and the left page containing more widgets will slide into position. You will find more applications on the left page. The calender widget is on that page. In fact, if you slide your finger to the left, the right page will appear with more applications. Works just like the iphone and ipad..there are more applications hidden there. If you install more applications they will be placed on the other pages. The preloaded applications are awesome. I just love the ibook application as there are a lot of free books!

=D thx

Well I'm not an experienced user, but I can share with you some hiccups I faced when trying to connect my phone to my laptop. You need to get the driver for the phone in order for the laptop to recognise and install it. I used the driver for Windows 7 downloaded from http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/sam...usb-driver.html. Without the driver, your laptop may not be able to recognise your phone. Please scan the downloaded file with antivirus software before using. I installed the KIES samsung suite from the small CD provided in the box. After that, everything seems to be running Ok and the KIES seems to recognise my phone. I transferred some jpgs and ringtones to my memory card in the phone. But after that smooth beginning..my phone starts to heat up every time I make calls. cry.gif Maybe some applications were still running in the background and I did not shut them off with the Task Manager (I was activating some applications and downloaded some free ebooks for the ibook application, surfing with the browser and setting up my email with google mail.). So I would advice you to shut off applications after you open them..just like my iPad.

Apologies Wengsoo..the method is to press the application widget from the home screen. Then when you are on the applications screen swipe screen to the right and the calender widget will be on the left page. Sorry for the mistake.

Agree with you. I've a replacement phone after first one became VERY HOT when doing tasks and making calls/answering calls. Hanged and rebooted once when I first got the new set also. Yesterday phone was on full charge. This morning..message said "Battery Low"! Aiyah how come so fast! Wifi was on..so turned it off today and see whether battery charge lasts longer. Checked with Task Manager but saw no applications running. Are there some serious issues with this phone? mad.gif

the salesgirl quote RM1200 at 1st, then i ask for 16GB sd card.. then add to RM1275, after tat + screen protector and leather pouch become 1295..
suddenly she ask want to get high speed sd card o not, coz just now is medium speed one.... in the end become RM1335! =(
*
Waah! That's how they make extra $$$! I guess with all that price seems ok. I usually fix what I want then pay when I agree upon, including micro SD card, screen protector, etc. I use my old 4G micro SD card from my Nokia E72. Screen protector and casing seems not in market. Will wait.

Seems to be a common issue. I suspect some applications are still running in the background. Checked with Task Master but it said 0 application running but when I cleared the RAM, a message came up: "two applications stopped"...????? What's going on? Now I cancelled packet data, wifi and use only GSM. Heating up seems to have stopped. Can anyone post an observation/comment on this?

anyone else facing heating too? (cause i want get this phone but.. this issue really make me "ALAMAK!" doh.gif )

2G service. check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM Basic connection as opposed to 3G which the Telcos will charge you a fortune for surfing! Friend of mine was happily surfing with his post paid account as the I9003 was fast. After a week, got hit with a RM200 bill! I hear some people kena higher. Check your package with the Telcos. That's why I disable 3G and use only wifi. The heating issue maybe due to some applications still running in the back ground. After I disable packet data transfer, phone appears cool like normal and so far battery still appears blue after charging this morning. Still monitoring the phone.

Welcome to the club! It is a nice phone but I think that there are still some issues with the phone until Samsung updates the firmware. I have used the task manager to clear the RAM (which also closes down active applications) last night and the battery level has stayed above 90% this morning. It has also stayed cool. So you may have to tweak the phone a bit like disabling functions you don't need...unless you don't mind the battery charge running out in less than a day.

I am using a white Nillkin hard case. It came with a screen protector too. So, for that price it's not bad.

Check by going to applications>settings>display and make sure the tick for auto rotate is green and not unchecked.

Want to share with all users that I managed to prevent rapid power drain from my phone's battery by using the Task Manager utility and clearing the RAM memory each time before I put my phone on standby. In fact, each time I clear the RAM memory a message comes up and tells me the number of applications that have been closed. Before that there were a lot of applications running in the background that I didn't know. They caused my phone to heat up and slow down. Now I made sure that there are no applications running before I put the phone on standby. Now it's already 4 days and my battery charge has stayed on 50% rclxms.gif

Before this, my phone heats up on standby and when making calls. Battery power also drained very fast and I had to recharge within a day. Now I only turn on wifi when I need, turn off packet data and put my phone on GSM so that my Telcos don't suck away all my phone credits. I also didn't root my phone as I feel I didn't want to mess it up.

The use of the Task Manager is similar to my turning off opened applications in my iPad by pressing the Home button quickly twice, pressing and holding on to the application icon. When the small red circle with the "-" sign appear on each icon I just shut it off by pressing the small red circle. My iPad's battery has retained its charge for about two weeks or longer without recharging. So, the secret is to shut off applications when you don't need to use them, especially if your phone is on standby.

How u do that can tech step by step ?? Do u use internal software or external software that u install?? hmm.gif

I use the application which is already in the phone, i.e. the Task Manager. Go to Application, look for Task Manager in second window of the applications. Tap on Task Manager and a window will open showing Applications running ("Running"), Downloaded software ("Downloaded"), Ram status ("RAM") and Storage. Tap on "RAM" and the message in the window will explain to you what it does. Tap on "Clear memory" box and a message will come up and tell up how many applications have been closed. You will be surprised at the number of applications which are running without your knowledge. As I have wriiten, it works the same way as you shut off the applications in the iphone and ipad. Hope this helps.

Use wifi to check email, made calls, browse, each time before switching to standby mode closed applications with Task Manager. Able to prolong charge in battery this way. BTW I don't play games on my hp, reserve that for my SONY PS2, better gaming experience biggrin.gif

i remember i did that once a day but dunno its that useful though  brows.gif
I use the Task Manager each time I finish using the phone. Helps to reduce battery usage when phone is idle on standby. I recharged the phone yesterday and this morning used wifi, email and checked for software update..found that after that battery fell to 88%. Looks like if you use a lot of functions they really suck away your battery power.

hi,

i bought my GT9003 yesterday.
just now I went to a hypermarket's toilet and dropped my phone accidentally.. however the toilet's floor got water trap(or something like that..not sure how to explain), so it's considered "soft".

later i went to a phone accessories groceries nearby (in TESCO Ampang) and ask for a back cover... the shop assistant there I saw used a scissor to fit in my phone inside the casing.. which i wonder why is it difficult since later I can simply put in and out that soft plastic back casing.

back home, i saw the shiny metal at my phone has A DENT!!! argh, it's just bought yesterday and now got a dent already.

i'm yet to receive SMS from Samsung, and i'm not sure whether me who spoilt the phone (but, i doubt, since the dent is at the side, not at the corner, if it's caused by the fall.. and the dent is deep!).

now i'm not sure, whether i've to accept the fact AS IS since i'm not sure by myself. also, i doubt this can be covered in warranty since it can be considered user's faulty, yes?
*
That's why as soon as I bought my phone I bought a Nillkin hardcover and made sure I fixed a strap to the phone. I always hold the phone by the strap each time I use it as it is too slippery to hold at times and you may drop it. I carry the phone also in a pouch fixed to my belt. That way I get double insurance I don't accidentally drop it and damage it. Be safe, brother.

hey man, thanks.
btw, can you point out where to get that hardcover?

also, is it possible to find the new phone housing (i don't mean the backcover).. meaning if possible to get a new shiny metal - front cover.. saw in internet but it seems including the LED.. meaning it must be that way? (more money??)
I bought mine from Nova Cell, Subang Parade, located on the ground floor. You can't miss as it is in the middle of the open space, just in front of the shop that sells croc shoes. There is a selection of black or white costing RM45 when I bought mine. Dunno of other colours. As for new housing, I dunno if any shop has it as the phone is still quite new.

Read my previous posting..you can get a Nillkin hard cover from Nova Cell, located at the basement level (open area) of Subang Parade, Subang Jaya for RM45. Box contains a screen protector, too. When I bought mine, there is a choice of black or white colour.

I do notice a slight lagging in the touch response of the screen. It's not as fast as the iphone 4 and scrolling can be a bit of a problem as I can tend to open applications I don't need when holding with my finger, trying to scroll down. Guess no one can beat Apple - even Google's Android. Maybe the Android 3.0 will be better?

That's the sad fact. Bought new ipad a few months ago..then the new ipad2 came out. Bought new Galaxy SL, now a new model came out. It's their way of making sure you'll never be satisfied with what you have and will always want another new one. Remembered my grandfather's time, car models like the Morris Minor and the Volkswagen "Beetle" stayed around for awhile and don't change that often, Now, it's part of marketing strategy to keep coming up with new models of phones so that they create a situation where you are no longer satisfied with what you have. However, I feel satisfied with my old ipad and "old" Galaxy SL. laugh.gif
