gkl83, are you an engineer? What field?

Some say for engineering staff, it's hard
to get high salary unless you are in O&G.
Become consultant can get high income?

Any engineer/consultant care to give opinion?
*

telecommunication

if u have higher aim for career, you should get involved in different job scope rather than specialise in 1 field only...
bcos as a supervisor or manager or boss, they should able to handle different issues for whole company management...

as a consultant is more on "talk" but engineer is more on "work"...
but we getting older, i dont think our physical body allowing us to "work" so much...
so either the stress on mental or physical, is your choices...

anyway, if i got choices i may willing go to oversea for 5 years to improve my skills and back to malaysia later for higher position... smile.gif

are you already accepted by this company..? or you still negotiate with your new company..? if you already got this job maybe you can't to ask more.. just in my opinion..
*

should ask memphisto whether signed offer letter...
if hvnt sign the offer letter, there have still have the room for negotiate but it wont give the good impression on the employer...

I don't even have commitment like property or vehicle yet. I have a free car from my sister.
Yet, I don't think I can afford any property for this coming 5 years.
I'm earning puny 4.1k at 25 years, I'm a HR practitioner. Only have 2 years working experience.
*

RM4100 @ 25 years old no bad oledi compare to mine...

i owned a DSL house luckily when 2008-2009 before the bubble...
bought the house @ RM300k, but selling price RM600k+... sweat.gif

but my wife share her name along to own DSL, otherwise no other method with my salary RM2k+
buy now or buy later also the same, salary increased - property increased = no differences...

perhaps u can request ur bf to share his name to own a property before bubble again...
but only problem is you having the contract basis job and have the risk to loss job any time and no able to pay for the house instalment...

Ur current is 2855 (2565 + 290) n new offer is 3100. Make sure u will go outstation oftenly so u can get the 1k allowance.
Or else, I feel like not worth to jump ship.
*

for the age 30, served the company for 3years+ and work as senior level
the yearly increment is about RM0-RM70 is really d@mm low...
of cos depend your performance, otherwise the increment at least RM200-500 if performance good enough to impress the management...

if quahquah always in tip-top condition but ur efforts no appreciated by company, is time to jump away from hopeless ship...

Just curious to know which industry and expertise are you in now.. Mind to share it? I wish to get as much $$ as possible soon also. Currently 26 years old. Just received increment this year where my current salary about RM3.8k.
*

you can't compare with fruitie as she is contract basis (if no mistaken) which is higher salary and may lesser employer benefit... hence more hassle as may loss job anytime and difficulties to apply car&house loan if under contract basis...

as age 26 @ RM3800, seem average but slightly underpaid little bit if your company no provided other allowances on top of your salary... smile.gif

sometimes stay to long period in a company may not increment so much... must be job hop. am i right? fruitie...
*

if there have the company trying to dig you and join to their company, you will get good increment in between...

i join my new company recently as the most of the staffs there knew me for the last few year due to email cc there and here and phone calling... tongue.gif hence i went for meeting at customer site with another vendors past few weeks ago, the vendor asked me whether want to have a try for interview as they looking for replacement now... but most likely i won't attend for interview even though invited me as i know they may no able to offer better package than my current package... smile.gif

my advise: get to know different management staffs from different companies more, there have more opportunities if there have someone out there know your capabilities fit into their company...

@heizad.

perhaps u rite.. only contract basis will get a lot bucks.. but i curious what about bonus and got increment every year?? i heard some of fren said contract basis seldom get increment 1.. just renew the contract depend on contract agreement...
*

also another disadvantage of contract, the company may kick u away anytime without compensation and may in deep shxt especially u having on-going car loan and house loan...

for short run, contract is good for non-family worker and tended to get experience from different industry field... but no good for family worker as they have to afford a lot of monthly expense...

I got no allowance at all sad.gif... Bonus dependence on company and own performance throughout the year. 2 consecutive years received 6 months bonus. So i guess that my performance not too bad after all but my company don't really willing to pay too high salary because it is trying to let bonus to be part of the valuation..

Previously salary was much lower until this year got a hike in my increment. I don't really like it when they say "we pay high bonus". I say so because we should always know that bonus is only a variable which is not fixed. The company may still pay sucks bonus even if my performance good. (Note: I am not in a sales position.)
*

they trying to reduce the staff turnover by using the 6month bonus and it happened to most of company...
such as my previous company giving out 3+ months bonus per year but the bonus splited into 3 times per year... sweat.gif

but it is good money that 6 month bonus... basically u earning more than RM5000 per month if u included bonus into your salary (if still paying 6months bonus according to your latest salary) which may higher than any contract basis staff... smile.gif

also depend on your total bonus provided & company benefit covered, such as some company cover for transport allowance (even for admin / financial staff), car & house loans subsidy, dental & optical subsidy, etc...

I disagree.

I have seen an engineer selling insurance, Biotech graduate working as property leasing officer, EE Engineer working as graphic designer etc.

It's not the quality of the course that determine who you are, it's you yourselves that building working experience you're holding today and that mould you to a higher peak in yoru career.
*

you have your points...

but the truths is, most of well-known company no prefer to hire SPM, diploma level nowadays even though without any working experiences to maintain their company's status level... but only well-known company have bigger room for growth and learning and able to focus on particular tasks rather than working as kuli at small company...

unless u get the experiences from company and establish your own business then may different story...
