Gen1 suits the iPhone 4s just fine and there shouldn't be any issues.

The rm290 for front piece, back piece , and headphone screw is only applicable for gen1 only.

I have gen 1s and they work just as well on the iPhone 4s

Gen2 has two little plastic things sticking out the side where the volume buttons are and cost rm35 more

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GEN1 and GEN2 LIFEPROOF CASE



My opinion:
It is NOT WORTH the extra $$ for those two little pieces of plastic sticking out. Gen1 users have had no issues without any protection and I'm using Gen1 with no problems. Gen 1 will fit the new iPhone 4S just fine.
