The backup for contacts/applications works like charm right? Meaning I will not lose my contacts / applications (not that important for apps tho..) after Flashing?

U can backup ur contacts and apps using Titanium Backup...
After u flash the rom u can restore ur apps by using Titanium Backup =D

You must backup your custom rom... have a backup copy of radio image (If you plan to update radio which is most of us do)... Have backup of S-Off file to change back to S-On... and the list is continue...

The easy version... If you lucky enough to find RUU for you rom... then you will be fine...
