Need some advice from you Sony kakis..... my lens got fungus!!!! cry.gif

Hehe, it's actually my videocam Sony HDR-SR10E. Was cleaning it and suddenly realized that fungus is growing on the inner surface of the front lens elements. vmad.gif The affected area is about 0.8cm in diameter.

Still under extended warranty though.

Just wondering whether I will be charged when I send in the videocam for repair, especially if they have to change the affected lens.....

Anybody have any idea? icon_question.gif

Note : Didn't post in the videocam thread because nobody goes there!!! smile.gif

kmarc, why don't u just send it..
if anything they still quote first..

Yeah, going to send it in next week as I only noticed it this evening.

Looks like I have to keep the videocam together with my DSLR in my DIY dry box next time!!! (Usually I just put the videocam on the table.... can't imagine that will also cause fungus to grow!!!)

of all people, you who wrote the guide "how to take care of your DSLR", sendiri kena.

actually fungus growth is User-negligent why never get proper drybox?. but anyway, just send it in, if the fungus is minor, and not within the lens assembly group (group lens are unable to disassemble) and they might need to change the whole lens group. but its rare to have fungus inside lens group due to air tight assembly.

PM me ur number, i lost my mobile a while back tongue.gif

Aiyooo... sifu, don't scold me la..... I didn't write on "How to take care of your videocam" ma... tongue.gif

Actually, I never thought about keeping my videocam in my dry box. Thought it was more for expensive DSLR + lenses. Come to think of it, I should have done it as the videocam cost me RM3k+!!!

Will send it in next week. cry.gif

BTW, if need to change whole lens group, will they charge if still under warranty? hmm.gif

OMG, zeiss kena fungus T.T

just send in, i think they will change for u if they cant clean it if they dont label it as user negligent.
*
Will do. Will also tell them I usually keep it in a DIY dry box too (1% of the time biggrin.gif)

Haaaaiya. So little only. Wont affect the video recordings right? Just make sure it doesnt spread at all and it'll be fine. but of course if sony is offering free cleaning then send it in.
*
Nope. Not noticeable on video recordings.

@kmarc

Even if they charge, it will be a fraction if the cost. If still under warranty then jut utilise it gaogao.

Really? Great to hear that.

Ok then, thank you all for all your input. Will let you guys know the outcome when I get the videocam back.... hopefully free-of-charge!!!! blush.gif
