multipliers arent locked for intel processors.. i believe so.. unless the motherboard locks it for you.

Yes you can overclock your ram depending on chipset of the ram. The one specified on the mobo is just a hardware requirement. but u can get lower freqs and oc it higher.

EDIT: Intel Processors dont have locked multipliers meaning there is a range of about 2 degrees. For example like the E6750 has the range of 6-8* for its multiplier, thus i consider it has not locked to 8

Dun mistaken this with extreme procs with Unlocked multipliers this guys have a bigger range, of multipliers.

I am clarifying this so that some person doesnt make a fool of what i said.

well, firstly the right hardware to OC, then learn about the fundamentals of your hardware before playing with it. Then once u learn, u will understand any OC guide easily

generally hmm. thats a very good question. In theory, a higher fsb is better than a lower fsb, but in real time use, it doesnt make a difference, maybe in benchmarks yes. Expert opinions welcomed here.

nothing works better than bare rams on air being blown by a fan smile.gif And Kvrs now.. are hopeless, unless u have this

1.DDR2 533 rams coz these have D9GCT(godlike)
2.Hynix FP-5Y rev. A, B or C
3.Elpida 6E-E

you cant learn OCing with handbooks. You learn by reading it and searching it by yourself. NO one is kind enough tio give you handbooks... by the way Kmarc has a good guide.. and search for his threads. By the way u wont get much from the specs you have.

anything above stock specs and mismanaged temp controlmwill result in a shorter life span, i think its a pretty obvious answer, just think about a human being which u stress to run every single moment, sure will die faster lor.

cl5 have lower bandwidth readings than cl4 when it comes to subtimings. In ram overclocking, its not about the speed and how tight your timings can be, its also about how much bandwidth you gain from an overclock.

What is bandwidth? It is in layman terms defined to be the amount of information being able to be carried per second. So for example, if i have a ram which is ddr2 800 in rating at cl5-5-5-15, my memory bandwidth is generally rated at 6400MB/s or lower(there are other factors involved too).

So for example if i tighten my timings to cl4-4-4-12, my bandwidth actually is increased to around 7000~8000MB/s. This is a gain in bandwidth smile.gif This is what overclockers in general want. smile.gif Ill give u an screenshot of what i mean smile.gif

Stability is simple. If the computer doesnt run like you want it to run like, its not stable. smile.gif There are many ways to test stability, one easiest method, is, running heavy programs, or softwares. That can be a good test, or the simple SuperPi32M test smile.gif

Notice the Memory bandwidths and latency

what u get on stock

and... what u get when u overclock

technology would have flown so fast that e6550 will be like pentium 2 about 10 yrs ago smile.gif. so lifespans are... not significant, as most of us would live out a processor after 2~3 yrs.
