I doubt anyone will have it yet since it never really did reach here in the 1st place...
Anyway, here's a relevant review which you may find useful: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-N...ok.43709.0.html

Usage? Budget?
The only thing holding me back from getting the N53 is the size haha... too big and heavy laugh.gif
And because of the relatively larger size, the keyboard on the N53 is weaker than that of the N43

Yeap, Asus N53SN hasn't arrive yet nod.gif
And yes, all those laptops equipped with Sandy Bridge which was sold (Acer, HP, Lenovo etc) before the chipset issue was discovered are affected...
The new batches of Asus SB laptops will be free from those defects though, just be on a look out for the Certified Sticker http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=Bdmf9rXuqU29SRsi

Well, details from the website is not very accurate and not up-to-date, thus unreliable nod.gif
As for Sandy Bridge, do refer to the links already indicated to you, there's even a specific thread made for it nod.gif

Yeah, it sure is a long wait... I'm still waiting for N43 cry.gif
Anyway, I think its best not to jump into the ship so fast... at least not yet since we cannot 100% confirm that these N53 were "fixed" one or not... I'm worried will encounter some problems if they don't have those certified stickers. hmm.gif

Definitely the N43... I used to own a 15.6 inched Qosmio F60 and it was way too bulky and heavy for my everyday usage... haha...
I'm hoping we'll see some better variants of the N43.... nod.gif

Cant be sure since the processor is not certain yet. In other countries its i7, so if malaysia follows, i'm thinking the price should be between N53SN(RM3599, according to asus brochure) and A43SV(RM3399). Otherwise, if its i5, its possibly cheaper.

The only N53SV i know is N53SV-SX211V

coz i see in n53sn forum the battery for n53sn only can stand 2 hours
is that true?
my 5750g can hold 4 hours while using wifi...
*
Wtf 2 hours??Even my y560p WITHOUT THE SWITCHING TO THE INTERGRATED GRAPHICS can last 2 hours+
I think it was not set to power saving mode le. WIth the Nvidia Optimus the battery should last longer le

Supposedly n53sv should have longer battery life since it's dual core SB

Easiest way is to see the model name..
I7-2630QM
I5-2410M

Q stands for quadcore.. But then there's often a typo in brochures, so can't really be sure, best way is to check notebookcheck.net

actually it does not make any diff. Since both SB processors have Intel Turbo boost tech, when the laptop is not doing anythin heavy, it will only optimize 1 core and shut down the others. Thats why the new SB is power saving

Dual core has lower TDP of 35w only while quad have 45w, theoretically it should have lower power consumption.. Well we shall see..

Yes they have turbo boost tech...but is version 1.0 while the SB has version 2.0 which enables the cores that are not being use to shut down automaticly

With reference to this post and your previous post, I have to ask, how many Core i7 quad CPU laptops, Sandy Bridge or not, have you used?

Core i5 laptops will definitely have better energy savings and battery life compared to Core i7 quads. You can say that for Turbo 2.0 some cores of the quads will shut down automatically, but this is the same they said for Turbo 1.0 Core i7 quads, and battery life with the standard 6 cell batteries was terrible with those - unless you switched off wifi, music, video, and just read a PDF all day.

-.-
im just telling you guys wad i read in the newspaper le. It says that SB has better energy saving than previous generation.
Sorry if I only used i7 SB, never tried the 1st gen i7 or i5 so i assume they can't shut down the core that are not being use. Read at articles on the web and newspaper they kept saying that SB processors are able to shut down cores that are not being used.

GPU u can Overclock 540M to 550M, not a prob I guess...

But processor wise, quad core is actually a lot stronger in many ways than dual core...

Well depending on ur usage, dual core might be well enough for you...

Let's see the difference between the two. Saying you can overclock one to match the speeds of the other doesn't make it a valid argument in this case since the 550 can also be overclocked. This means that the 550 will always outperform.

The advantages are 70 Mhz difference on core speed and almost 140 Mhz difference on shader speed. Everything else remains the same. I figure that could equate to maybe 5 FPS difference on average.

notebookcheck has the differences.

I agree w/ the i7 > i5 even for gaming because Tom's hardware did a comparison w/ the desktop versions of these processors and didn't see any performance boost from an i5 from an i7 in gaming, much less a detriment. So your gaming will increase due to the GFX card being faster, it can be even better if you overclock which ever card you get. Your multitasking will be faster with the i7.

The choice seems pretty clear.

gaming got ntg to do with cores
even u play games with quad or dual it wont do much diff

quad core is good when u do multi tasking
if gaming dual core will do
since u r not using all 4 cores when u gaming why nid it at the 1st place
just buy the 1 u nid

Guys do you know if its possible to change the proc in the N53SV to the i7-2630QM or the i7-2720QM(like the US version)and how much would it cost, cause i feel that GT550M in the SN is like overkil for me and waste of money as im in hardcore gaming(not always at the most higest setting) and doing graphics design

Regarding the GPU, they are both the same thing except the clockspeed. With the same architecture, I doubt 550M can be overclocked much higher than 540M.. In the end it wouldn't really make that much of a difference..

gt540, gt550 basically both similar chip but actually there's different between two same chip.

higher quality chip capable of running at higher speed will be binned as gt550 while other binned gt540 or lower. headroom for overclocking will be different.

The GT550M does have 2GB VRAM compared to 1GB of GT540M. Not much effect on gaming with that resolution but it does affect some applications. The quality is also unknown, can it be as simple as an overclocked version of GT540M? Only NVIDIA knows.

The SN version also comes with 5200mAH battery compared to 4400mAH of SV, so you'll get longer battery life.

And yea, that quad core vs dual core.

If you notice, laptops with the specs level of N53SN are around the same price level, so definitely Asus isn't charging you for things that aren't worth the price.

By the way, lingloong's prices for both laptops are the lowest I've seen in LYN atm... with N53SN @ RM3349 and N53SV @ RM2679 rclxms.gif

Hmm.. Are you sure the batteries are different? Both have the exact same design/look, how can the battery be different though? Is it a printing error on brochures or something?

I referred to usa.asus.com and cross-checked with the brochures of the different sellers in LYN, all of them stating the SN version comes with 5200mAh.

And it's just the mAh not the number of cells, it's not gonna affect the size.

Hahahhaa sory sifoos

Im in really heavy dilemma with

Sager N8130 RM4000
I7 2630qm
8gb ram
gtx460m
Full hd
Ugly look.
Warranty claiming very hassle

Asus n53sn rm4200.
I7 2630qm
Upgrade to 8gb ram
GT550M
SSD x25 160gb OEM .
Stock hdd become external hdd
Look alot better than sager
No full hd

Which one i should get?

actually are u gonna use it for other intensive stuff besides gaming? cause gaming wont utilize 8gb of ram. even 4gb is sufficient. im gonna get the Asus though due to hassle of ordering, warranty and weight. biggrin.gif but if ur willing to import ur laptop then by all means go for sager.

it's quite an easy choice to be honest, just ask yourself whether you need such a good GPU for gaming? U wanna game Crysis on Ultra?

Optimus is a new technology by Nvidia that allows you to switch from the dedicated GPU (Nvidia) to the integreted GPU(intel) to save battery

All laptop come with original window la. All got window serial number at the bottom.
If you see a laptop with fake windows (beside those laptop that come only with Free DOS) please do tell me

Well i5 would have better battery life assuming everything else is the same, it has a lower TDP. How much more I haven't the slightest clue, but definitively better.

Yeah .. especially for small town like Kulai..... EXTREMELY rare.

So which leaves me still undecided to go for acer 5750g or the asus N53sn.. sigh .....

since budget not an issue for me .. i'm considereing waiting 1-2 more weeks to see whether n53sn will be out or not..

.. what do u guys think? .. there's a lot talk about N53sn and how everybody wants it ... and it's better in build quality than the 5750g n better GPU .... is it REALY that good?

make me confused leee ...... icon_question.gif icon_question.gif sad.gif

I previously had an acer ... after 3 years of usage, GPU got fried ... to replace ... need RM700 !! .. no shitting .. so expensive .. might as well sell old lappie, and top up and get new one rite? so that's why i am looking out for new laptop.

well, if specs then it's almost same as acer 5750g, just that GPU is better, right?

If build quality, then i don't know. N series Asus suppose to be the good quality build right?

If speakers then i think it's roughly the same.

If price then Asus n53sn more expensive by about RM600.

Is paying extra RM600 for a bit better GPU and supposedly "better build quality" worth it?

p/s: I am still undecided for which one to buy .... sad.gif icon_question.gif sad.gif

It's really better build quality, Aluminium chassis ya, go check out other N series urself...

Regarding sound quality, it's using BnO speakers with Subwoofer.... Acer is just normal ones.. The diff is quite big actually....

Build qualily is more than enough for that price difference... And 2 years international warranty by default also..

The design of the Y570 is almost similar to that of the Z460? hmm.gif Good to see that the keyboard is now widely used in a majority of Lenovo laptops thumbup.gif
According to reviews, JBL speakers in the Dell XPS seemed to be better than B&Os of Asus, probably due to the additional subwoofer..

I think harman/kardon is in 2nd haha, Bang & Olufsen isn't as good laugh.gif
Well, we can't really compare the audio quality from each brands since different people have different perspectives... Some prefer heavier bass (and will like laptops with subwoofers), whereas some don't...
Having subwoofers doesn't really mean the speakers will produce better audio quality; according to a review on the Creative Gigaworks T20/40 introduced (poisoned) by astria sifu laugh.gif

Unfortunately I think our Malaysian version of A43 and N43 will arrive at around April doh.gif
Need to wait until then, if the specs over here is not good, might as well buy from Singapore laugh.gif

Well, we're going to have to wait for Malaysia's N43 now, only then we decide...
I hope it comes with 500GB 7,200rpm instead of the usual 640GB 5,400 rpm HDD

The JBL might have more bass due to the subwoofer but perhaps B&O has better clarity...need to compare them side by side.

1GB or 2GB ain't gonna make a difference at all. VRAM size is a marketing gimmick. It's the GPU itself that comes first and foremost.

asus n43 series will not have ati gpu its confirmed for this series i saw the asus catalogue magazine from NBR if you want an ati gddr5 gpu well HP in Sg launched a new dv4 14 inch with 6750m gddr5 with 480 sps not 6570m so it will beat the asus gt 550m that hp dv4 has the powerful gpu that a 14 incher can have

oooooooooooooo ... i see ... hhhmmmm ...... here in m'sia about rm3499 for n53sn

rm3800 for n42. + freebies. ( is it possible to ask them dealer to add 1gb ram for GPU ? ) , but smaller 14".

looks like n42 more portable and should be lighter. i wonder will it overheat like the acer 5750g?

Well, Notebookcheck may be correct in assuming the GT550M > HD6570. But the benchmarks will tell it all.

I'm sure it's marginally better, notebookcheck is testing them both at GDDR3. If one GDDR5 haven't the slightest clue then. Too many people have different opinions on the GDDR5 vs GDDR3 argument.

You'd probably be able to bargain around RM100 off the RM2.8k price tag...
1st thing to check is to make sure the laptop is taken out from a sealed box... then make sure there's the Asus new revision certified design sticker....

If I am not mistaken, since I did my own comparison when presenting this to my father, the only noticeable differences between the two are the available RAM slots (I do not know if Dell has 4 SO-DIMM expansions), the GPU (550m GT vs 540m GT, another forumer mentioned ~5fps difference theoretically) and the sound (JBL vs B&O)

I liked the Asus because it gave me the option for adding more RAM when needed and the fact that the GPU should be slightly faster. Given the investment and length of time you will be using the laptop, a better graphics card would make more sense. However, there are other factors you have to take into account like design, feel of the keyboard, warranty.

Dell, to my understanding, has the best after-sales support, but Asus has 2 years on theirs (albeit not so reliable lah). If you aren't into design or gaming, then it becomes brand preference see?

Correct me if I am wrong sifu's.

Don't forget Asus's 2 years is International Warranty by default...

Dell's speakers should 'sound' better since it has a subwoofer while Asus's one doesn't have.. In terms of actual audio clarity I am not really that sure... But nevertheless B&O speakers are good quality speakers...

Yeah two years. Better because its international (especially for students studying abroad like me). Dell is local am I correct?

Speakers..matter to some. Not to others. I use my laptop speakers once in a blue moon.

The brochure mention N53Sn have 10++ of battery hour

Yep, but of course battery is depend on usage. If you're Gaming with wifi on and brightest setting for screen then it may only last 1 to 2 hour.

yea, i was just saying what i think N43SN would be like, but so far i haven't heard of any news of it coming here. And N43SL, even though its confirmed to be coming here, its spec isn't confirmed yet right? Am afraid when N43SL comes out and i go purchase it, then they release N43SN the following month with the same price or something...

Just right click on the flash on youtube, it will show the version..
Either downgrade to 10.1 or open the flash setting and disable hardware accelerations.

Just bought N53SN from PJ Digital Mall (D-Fusion ground floor, shop has Lenovo sign)

Was offered RM3399 cash without freebies, but I opted for RM3499 0% 12 Months installment. I think it's a sweet price considering Evernew nearby charges RM3570 for 12 Months installment.

Inside the box:
Asus mouse
Laptop bag
5200mAh battery
manuals

I havent been able to really play it due to work.. but I must say, the laptop is *much* better looking than in the pictures. I'm not an audiophile but the speaker sounds loud and good enough that I cancelled my plan to buy external speaker.

Both support Optimus lah
Different in GC, SN comes with GT 550M while SV comes with GT 540M
I would prefer SN since it has quadcore with better GC

One bad thing about N53SN... the power adapter is HUGE!!!! like a brick doh.gif
Battery life under high performance profile (did not run gaming) is about 3 hours. Not yet try battery safe mode.

*
any idea on the freebies they offer?

It's relatively small. Huge power adapters are those you get for gaming laptops!

And High Performance mode makes your CPU work at 100% so it doesn't throttle down when it's idling therefore you're effectively consuming battery.

Strictly speaking, N53SN is not really a gaming laptops, multimedia laptop I would say... The adapter is the largest among all 15.6" notebook I owned...
High performance mode was turn on just to test the battery life, quite happy with it since I was doing some heavy work just now.
