Budget? if nt mistaken the weight is 2.70kg...but from wat i see in the pics...the keyboard doesnt seem different de?The only thing holding me back from getting the N53 is the size haha... too big and heavy And because of the relatively larger size, the keyboard on the N53 is weaker than that of the N43 |

QUOTE(24seven @ Feb 26 2011, 10:55 PM) Yeah, it sure is a long wait... I'm still waiting for N43 Anyway, I think its best not to jump into the ship so fast... at least not yet since we cannot 100% confirm that these N53 were "fixed" one or not... I'm worried will encounter some problems if they don't have those certified stickers. |

Cant be sure since the processor is not certain yet. In other countries its i7, so if malaysia follows, i'm thinking the price should be between N53SN(RM3599, according to asus brochure) and A43SV(RM3399). Otherwise, if its i5, its possibly cheaper.
The only N53SV i know is N53SV-SX211V Added on February 27, 2011, 4:23 pmCant be sure since the processor is not certain yet. You can say that for Turbo 2.0 some cores of the quads will shut down automatically, but this is the same they said for Turbo 1.0 Core i7 quads, and battery life with the standard 6 cell batteries was terrible with those - unless you switched off wifi, music, video, and just read a PDF all day. |

It says that SB has better energy saving than previous generation. Sorry if I only used i7 SB, never tried the 1st gen i7 or i5 so i assume they can't shut down the core that are not being use. Read at articles on the web and newspaper they kept saying that SB processors are able to shut down cores that are not being used. |

GPU u can Overclock 540M to 550M, not a prob I guess...so how far is the level of performance between these two? if the difference is not much then i may opt for n53sv. but if the difference is huge then i will go for n53sn. But processor wise, quad core is actually a lot stronger in many ways than dual core... Well depending on ur usage, dual core might be well enough for you... |

Saying you can overclock one to match the speeds of the other doesn't make it a valid argument in this case since the 550 can also be overclocked. This means that the 550 will always outperform. But processor wise, quad core is actually a lot stronger in many ways than dual core... Well depending on ur usage, dual core might be well enough for you... The advantages are 70 Mhz difference on core speed and almost 140 Mhz difference on shader speed. Everything else remains the same. I figure that could equate to maybe 5 FPS difference on average. notebookcheck has the differences. I agree w/ the i7 > i5 even for gaming because Tom's hardware did a comparison w/ the desktop versions of these processors and didn't see any performance boost from an i5 from an i7 in gaming, much less a detriment. So your gaming will increase due to the GFX card being faster, it can be even better if you overclock which ever card you get. Your multitasking will be faster with the i7. The choice seems pretty clear. |

gaming got ntg to do with cores
even u play games with quad or dual it wont do much diff quad core is good when u do multi tasking if gaming dual core will do since u r not using all 4 cores when u gaming why nid it at the 1st place just buy the 1 u nid |

Guys do you know if its possible to change the proc in the N53SV to the i7-2630QM or the i7-2720QM(like the US version)and how much would it cost, cause i feel that GT550M in the SN is like overkil for me and waste of money as im in hardcore gaming(not always at the most higest setting) and doing graphics design

gt540, gt550 basically both similar chip but actually there's different between two same chip.
higher quality chip capable of running at higher speed will be binned as gt550 while other binned gt540 or lower. headroom for overclocking will be different. |

The GT550M does have 2GB VRAM compared to 1GB of GT540M. Not much effect on gaming with that resolution but it does affect some applications. The quality is also unknown, can it be as simple as an overclocked version of GT540M? Only NVIDIA knows.
The SN version also comes with 5200mAH battery compared to 4400mAH of SV, so you'll get longer battery life. And yea, that quad core vs dual core. If you notice, laptops with the specs level of N53SN are around the same price level, so definitely Asus isn't charging you for things that aren't worth the price. By the way, lingloong's prices for both laptops are the lowest I've seen in LYN atm... with N53SN @ RM3349 and N53SV @ RM2679 This post has been edited by JustForFun: Mar 5 2011, 08:33 AM |

I referred to usa.asus.com and cross-checked with the brochures of the different sellers in LYN, all of them stating the SN version comes with 5200mAh.
And it's just the mAh not the number of cells, it's not gonna affect the size. |

Well i5 would have better battery life assuming everything else is the same, it has a lower TDP. How much more I haven't the slightest clue, but definitively better. |

QUOTE(Trance4eva @ Mar 11 2011, 05:33 PM) +1, currently Dell XPS JBL speakers is the best speakers for laptops with Asus B&O in second. Dunno who is third though I think harman/kardon is in 2nd haha, Bang & Olufsen isn't as good heard it first hand the JBL on the XPS...really loud!! Well, we can't really compare the audio quality from each brands since different people have different perspectives... Some prefer heavier bass (and will like laptops with subwoofers), whereas some don't... Having subwoofers doesn't really mean the speakers will produce better audio quality; according to a review on the Creative Gigaworks T20/40 introduced (poisoned) by astria sifu This post has been edited by [PF] T.J.: Mar 11 2011, 08:46 PM |

Still dont depend on laptop speakers if u want quality sound for enjoyment. Get a set of good headphones or speakers. You wont regret it cause it can give u much better experience.

After conversion, it's still cheaper over here for most models. |

asus n43 series will not have ati gpu its confirmed for this series i saw the asus catalogue magazine from NBR if you want an ati gddr5 gpu well HP in Sg launched a new dv4 14 inch with 6750m gddr5 with 480 sps not 6570m so it will beat the asus gt 550m that hp dv4 has the powerful gpu that a 14 incher can have

Well, Notebookcheck may be correct in assuming the GT550M > HD6570. But the benchmarks will tell it all.

I'm sure it's marginally better, notebookcheck is testing them both at GDDR3. If one GDDR5 haven't the slightest clue then. Too many people have different opinions on the GDDR5 vs GDDR3 argument. |

You'd probably be able to bargain around RM100 off the RM2.8k price tag...
1st thing to check is to make sure the laptop is taken out from a sealed box... then make sure there's the Asus new revision certified design sticker.... |

QUOTE(sweeann @ Mar 15 2011, 02:16 AM) If I am not mistaken, since I did my own comparison when presenting this to my father, the only noticeable differences between the two are the available RAM slots (I do not know if Dell has 4 SO-DIMM expansions), the GPU (550m GT vs 540m GT, another forumer mentioned ~5fps difference theoretically) and the sound (JBL vs B&O)I liked the Asus because it gave me the option for adding more RAM when needed and the fact that the GPU should be slightly faster. Given the investment and length of time you will be using the laptop, a better graphics card would make more sense. However, there are other factors you have to take into account like design, feel of the keyboard, warranty. Dell, to my understanding, has the best after-sales support, but Asus has 2 years on theirs (albeit not so reliable lah). If you aren't into design or gaming, then it becomes brand preference see? Correct me if I am wrong sifu's. This post has been edited by ZeratoS: Mar 15 2011, 02:51 AM |

QUOTE(se@n @ Mar 15 2011, 06:00 PM) Yep, but of course battery is depend on usage. If you're Gaming with wifi on and brightest setting for screen then it may only last 1 to 2 hour. thats almost equivalent to sager NP 8130 lol. so the battery is better than N43JF ? cause that laptop dont really last long. |

Just right click on the flash on youtube, it will show the version..
Either downgrade to 10.1 or open the flash setting and disable hardware accelerations. This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Mar 17 2011, 01:09 AM |

Just bought N53SN from PJ Digital Mall (D-Fusion ground floor, shop has Lenovo sign)
Was offered RM3399 cash without freebies, but I opted for RM3499 0% 12 Months installment. I think it's a sweet price considering Evernew nearby charges RM3570 for 12 Months installment. Inside the box: Asus mouse Laptop bag 5200mAh battery manuals I havent been able to really play it due to work.. but I must say, the laptop is *much* better looking than in the pictures. I'm not an audiophile but the speaker sounds loud and good enough that I cancelled my plan to buy external speaker. This post has been edited by cricketeer: Mar 17 2011, 12:44 PM |

One bad thing about N53SN... the power adapter is HUGE!!!! like a brick
Battery life under high performance profile (did not run gaming) is about 3 hours. Not yet try battery safe mode. |

Strictly speaking, N53SN is not really a gaming laptops, multimedia laptop I would say... The adapter is the largest among all 15.6" notebook I owned... And High Performance mode makes your CPU work at 100% so it doesn't throttle down when it's idling therefore you're effectively consuming battery. High performance mode was turn on just to test the battery life, quite happy with it since I was doing some heavy work just now. |
