Hi, are you sure its possible to do a credit transfer to other unis in UK after 1st year in UOL? What are the normal requirements? and what are the odds?

Hi,

I am an ex-UOL student (did it at HELP University College) that graduated last year with a degree in BSc Economics.

The program is really good but also extremely tough since its purely 100% examination based. Furthermore, you have to cover 2 semesters worth of material for a 3-hour final exam doh.gif

I remember my first semester where my classes had 40-50 students but by year 2, the numbers reduced my at least half. So yea, if you're planning on taking this program, you have been warned !

As for the transfers to UK universities, it is possible providing you have at least a 2:1 or second upper for your first year results. Besides that, they all require your pre-U results (A-Levels / STPM / etc)

Ohh and one last thing, UOL provides study materials (A study guide and past year papers + solutions. The solutions, more often than not, isn't that great) to complement whatever other materials you are using for your study.

Ask here or feel free to PM me if you need to know more about this program. smile.gif

Thanks for the tips bro, I'm starting my sem this coming 21st of march, doing BSc Econs too haha  smile.gif

Can you recommend me some good reference materials for maths, statistics and econs ?
*
No prob smile.gif
If you're taking BSc Econs, your first year subjects should be Mathematics 1&2, Statistics 1@2, Intro to Economics and "something else". If Dr Goh is teaching you Math 1&2, then you're really good hands. Your Statistics lecturer may be Professor Teh who is quite good too but he can be a bit blur at times tongue.gif . A good book for it though is Statistics for Business and Economics by Newbold. As for Intro to Econs, the one by Lipsey is good.

Lastly, always read your subject guide and never depend solely on your lectures ! biggrin.gif

Yeah i've got Dr Goh and Professor Teh as my lecturer, Chandra for econs.

Bro what do you do mean by subject guide? you mean those reference books?
*
Never had Chandra so I can't comment. tongue.gif

As for subject guides, they are actually materials that UOL give out to their students to help them study. It gives a summary of the material you need to cover and the books that you may or may not want to read. UOL should be sending your copies to HELP but it takes forever to arrive! doh.gif

So, go HERE
and look for your subjects. There you can download the subject guides for whichever subject you're taking. biggrin.gif

And on the left side of that same webpage, you can also see Exam Papers & Exam Reports that you should download. Only the last 3 years are available.

During my time, all these came , either at the end of semester 1 or at the beginning of semester 2 so yea, you should get these stuff ASAP. smile.gif

EDIT: Oh, it seems the online versions of the subject guides only cover the 1st 4 chapters but that should be good enough to get you through semester 1.
