QUOTE(papamia @ Feb 24 2011, 08:44 PM) Alright, thanks for the info. What about the living expenses? rent is the major killer. food give and take is about 10-15 on average per meal, transport is manageable. rent in perth when i was there was only 150 per week, that was nearly 2 years ago lar. but i remember you could get 130 and a nice place over there. melbourne city you are easily looking at 200 ++++++, i think this is just as sydney all my mates in sydney stay far away from the city. so again it depends on where you are at la

The public transport is cheaper in Perth if I'm not wrong. Cheaper than other states. Not sure bout now though.
You're still willing to pay for their public transport as it's so much better than in Malaysia! Their route is well planned, their timing is just accurate!

I heard in other states students get concession prices for public transport, even international students.
In Melbourne, international students don't get concession, unfortunately.

Furthermore, they'll train you to be professional engineer. Both will get you job. Perhaps first class would make you get a better job? Not depends on the uni

Which one whill he choose? makes no real difference, heck if you going to come back and work, any of those two would hold significant value d. lol if you plan to work there, tehn well change your name to something like : John Smith first la This post has been edited by +3kk!: Feb 24 2011, 09:33 PM

UWA lah since my parents aren't that loaded and I have one more younger bro. I hope that he gets a scholarship since he's a top student. I iz regret liao not studying well during high school. My main concern is cost now. Worried for my parents too, they're not young anymore and have to sell shares/property to support me.

I have been based in both WA and Sydney, I'll tell you that if you're going for cost-efficiency, WA is waaaaaaayyyyy cheaper than Sydney. UTAS only if you're doing law, but it's quiet there. Fewer asians or not, doesn't matter. Your application for PRship is dependant on your course and what not, nothing to do with population. I've calculated, during my time in UNSW, my expenses were 1.5 times of that in WA, and i was staying at some broken down shitty suburb area and I stayed in a closet (literally. my room was converted from a closet). In WA, i have a decent room. Food and groceries also much much cheaper. The only thing UNSW has over UWA is probably UNSW's night life is waaay better. Education recognition wise, both are about the same. Doesn't really matter where you get your degree from these days anyway.

Tasmania is famous for nothing, well maybe for their I don't know ... marine sciences? You should totally go for UWA rather than UNSW,Perth is cheaper plus I guess both the Uni's are on par with each other
