There was a New Beetle burning on the Federal (towards Cheras area) causing a massive traffic jam about 11PM tonight.

@futobuta: Scratches only; no issue... nothing the fiber folks can't fix. They will typically sand the bumper down, apply putty to smooth-en it out (if required), then respray the bumper. Your GTI is still new, so chances are, there won't be much deviation in terms of colour smile.gif

Btw - have you tried to rub it yourself with some rubbing compound? If the scratches aren't deep, then you can usually 'fix' it yourself. As for respray length, if you were to go back to VW, I'm guessing its going to be a 3-5 day wait... workshops outside will be about 1-2 days (I've unfortunately had quite a bit of experience on this topic in the past few months!).

Think the powerplant for the Polo will remain the same (1.2TSI). That said, I think the hatchback Polo is much nicer than the sedan. Much, much nicer...

However, jwrx is right; if was a CKD unit, and was in the price range of a Honda City, Insight and Totoya Vios... it would really kill the market. Heck, why Japanese when you can go German?(!).

If the Polo had the 1.4TSI, then it would be in too close competition to the 1.4 Golf TSI. Same issue if it had a 1.6 I reckon.

The previous Golf R was the R32 which had a 3.2-litre engine. The mk6 Golf R shares the 2.0 FSI turbo powerplant in the GTI, except tuned for more power.

Logically, the new R should cost much less than the mk5 R32.

I remember VW brought in the R32; guess it's just a matter of time (hopefully!) before they bring in the R.

The listed R in mudah is crazy; especially when it costs so little in the UK. A used unit, too!

I guess jwrx was referring to me, then(?).

Of course we all know prices of cars here are more expensive than overseas. I wouldn't compare the cost of a Golf GTI here against one sold in the UK, but when the R isn't sold locally and is brought in as a grey import, prospective owners might bring up the question on how much it originally cost.

I'm not saying you get a 'lesser' car since the R is now a 2.0 compared to the R32's 3.2, I'm just saying "Hey, the price might have gone down a little.". Don't know how my statement was misconceived.

I was looking through the other listings and noticed a 335i and Boxster (both '07 models) that was selling for cheaper. Of course, the R, 335i and Boxster are different classes of cars (not to mention several years older) and hence no direct comparison can be made (residuals, running costs, etc, etc) but put side by side, I reckon potential customers would have something to think about.

Also, if the mk5 R32 was RM298k new, I don't think it is impossible for the mk6 R to be less than RM298k; the E60 520d was more expensive than the F10 520d IIRC.

Anyway - I'm not looking for trouble or trying to justify anything. If I've offended anyone - sorry smile.gif

Yes; I was also told that the Passat CC has already gone up by RM20k since 7th April. The mk6 Golf GTI is also facing a similar price increase, although no date has yet been set. The new price does not come with anything extra (with the exception of DRLs) on 2011 Golf GTIs.

As an aside, I was also told that the Polo GTI will be launched in June or July (can't remember the exact prices but definitely in that ballpark figure):
1) 4-door @ RM122k
2) 2-door @ RM128k

As for the Polo sedan; it is slated for December, and does indeed get a 1.6 powerplant.

Ah? FD1 FC leader in its class? I take the MEX to work everyday (at speeds between 130-190km/h) and I am doing about 9.7km/l whilst my 8G Altis was getting me 12.5km/l at similar speeds...

But on the subject of the Polo, I'm pretty sure the Polo will take the lead in a 0-100 sprint, and think that the Civic will eventually catch up.

Sorry to deviate, but isn't BMW's tagline now 'Sheer Driving Pleasure' (SDP) as opposed to 'Ultimate Driving Machine' (UDM)? laugh.gif

The GTI is a mighty impressive machine. I hit 20xkm/h during my test drive.
