ahem ahem..... .PPRTTPTPP PPRRTT *sound of trumpet*

This thread is to inform we'll have an outing this weekend. Discussion originated from Canon thread but we welcome everyone to join.

Here are the details....

Date : 26th Feb 2011, Saturday.

Venue : KL Bird Park ..... nah, here da wikimapia http://wikimapia.org/#lat=3.142059&lon=101...=16&l=0&m=b&v=8 you got a few days to plan your transport. haha. no, i no big big car so no fetching people. sorry............. but that's why we ish has this thread la, so you guys can plan out how to go.

Why choose KL Bird Park ah? Because the birds fly fly every where, almost any lens range also you get something to shoot la so don't worry.

You can also learn how to sneak up on subjects also, without spooking them and such.

Not enough reasons ah? Martha Stewart visited KL Bird Park also wooooorrr http://www.klbirdpark.com/index.cfm (btw if you're gonna click on that link, please tune down your volume. I visited it after watching anime....... wahh suddenly my room got sound of birds. LOL)

Crap la I also donno why I'm so long-winded here......

Anyway, more long-winded stuff



Time : 9am to 1pm - meet earlier la, 8.30am meet is good. then 9am go in. morning light very good to shoot. hope it doesn't rain........... if rain we also go shoot la, just bring some big black plastic bags for DIY raincoat for yourself and your equipment.

Brand : Any brand la, as long as itu benda is untuk ambik gambar wan then ok already. you want to use phone cam also no one gonna stop you.

Age : if you're under 18 - erm...... bring your parents? LOL. aiyah make sure you get their permission la. And NO - we're not going to be guardians.

Max # of People : N/A

1. this is NOT organized by Lowyat.net.
2. this is NOT organized by goldfries either, he just so happens to be the poor soul to start the thread only. he don't attend also nmind wan.
3. lunch not provided, lowyat.net (and the poor soul) will not responsible over anyone who decides to use one (or more) of the exhibits for dining purpose.

Anybody who knows how to get to Bird Park from KL KTM station or Pasar Seni LRT station, please kindly shed some lights here. I saw from the map, looks like quite far to walk to from these stations?

Need some highlight from Bukit Jalil LRT too.

It's a real long walk from any KTM or LRT stations. Suggest you take a cab instead. Too bad I can't join in as I have already committed to some other things on that day. Have fun.

me no long long lens to shoot angry birds

I'll be using only 55-250mm.

I wonder, is there any tips for me to shoot these birds when they are caged? Sure will see the cage's "line" right?

@fruitie depends on how close you can get to the cage/fence. if you can press the lens very close to the cage, then can bokeh out the cage to be almost invisible.

on the other hand if (example cos of wall or whatever) you can't get close to the fence then not much can be done, sure can see one.

When you zoom in. You wont be able to see the lines. If i m not mistaken. I tried it before. lol

there are no cages right? everything is under 1 big giant cage. correct me if wrong

Big aperture + zoom = no more lines

Company had our tree planting outing there before.

in the wild if you want to shoot birds you have to be there at 7am. By 10am you won't see much liao.

most of them are flying/walking around in the "huge cage" so yeah, you can get lots of nice shots of them in pseudo-natural environment, but there are a few that are separately caged up - like the emu's and ostriches.

He did mention phone cam can.

The bird show is at 12:30pm and 3:30pm on weekends. Feeding time you have to refer to the billboard once you are inside. Interesting shooting points would be the feeding sites, parrots house and the bird show.

There's a nice waterfall near the bird show area that you can try to shoot flowing water effects if you want.

And of course a lot of those white birds and pheasants walking all around the park can give some interesting angle to your shots.

Just my input. Hope you enjoy yourselves there.

Yes, there are cages.

If the birdie stay too near to the cage (line), then surely can see the cage (line)

Cages can be overcome as long as they are not too near. Otherwise, just use a wide apperture lens or a telephoto to minimize the dof. Either ways, you can just turn up the contrast in PP to get back some of the lost contrast from the cage.

Hardly notice anything.

I doubt me and my friends can reach before 9am. I'll probably reach around 10am. By then..I won't have any idea where would you guys be.

Sure, Jurong Bird Park is a great place and dont forget the Zoological Gardens.
There are just too many beautiful places to shoot in SG.
