pap smear is to detect cervical cancer. one risk for Cx ca is certain subtypes of HPV infections, which women can get from sexual contact. so, nuns, virgins who are very low risk for these subtypes, probably may not need the smear but dont quote me on that.
in general it is recommended to start at 21 if sexually active, every 3 years until 65.
some countries do this with HPV tests as well
after that, you may not need pap smear anymore
