UPDATE: here are some alternatives for those who didnt really score well in STPM

This guide is a simple guide for those who cannot read mandarin and wish to check the expected GPA in order to apply for a specific course in a specific university.

Except for UTM, UTeM & UniSzA which are all direct .PDF link. The others will link you to a website with an embedded PDF within scribd.

For those direct .PDF link, all you need to do is to click on the relevant course and check the details. For the others, the page will appear like this



So what you usually do is to browse through the file using the arrow which i circled it in red.

To go to a course directly, you can just search the keyword like "ekonomi" or "perubatan" at the bottom right.

Anyhow, if you cant found the course, you should just browse through the whole file. It is not that time consuming.

So for the data,



The first row indicates the mean score (average score) of the students admitted into the course. In the example shown above, the students have an average GPA of 3.36. (Yesr 2010/11)

the second row would be the minimum and maximum GPA which is from 3.08 (2) to 3.67(4). The number in the brackets indicated the number of students.

Mode would be the most common GPA in the batch. You can see there are 21 students who are admitted have a GPA of 3.25.

4th and 5th row are not that important as they are related to the total number of chinese students admitted into the course.

wah...i get 2.75 only..then i wait to die d..

5th row is the number of chinese students out of whole batch.
in the example, there are 119 chinese out of 235 students.

wont die .. just dont aim for UM, UKM, UPM, UTM all those .. still got lots of choices out there

UKM and UPM also hot spot ah? :S

im applying for UUM , UTM , UNIMAP , UPSI and erh...forget d lol..

first tier IPTA are USM, UM, UKM, UPM and UTM.
so their are more competitive than other IPTA.

don forget to apply UMS and UNIMAS as well.

The five research IPTAs which can be found in world rankings are always among people's top choices so heavy competition.
UM,UKM,USM,UPM and UTM

But please remember, must apply to USM cause USM have their own admission system. So you dont waste any slot when you are applying for other uni.

wanna ask my cgpa is 3.33 (without co-curiculum marks added)... how high is the chance for me to get into usm's computer science?

i cannot tell you the percentage but with you GPA, it is possible.

the stats i got from quansheng is

mean gpa 3.35
range from 3.00-3.84
most common gpa, 3.17(4), 3.25(4)

remember to place it the first choice. Some candidates with good result are rejected even after a good interview because they didnt place it as the first choice.

Quite high... can easily enter UM/UPM/UKM computer science also..

Still need to go interview after accepted by USM?

usual path is apply with stpm/matrik -> qualify (or not) for interview -> interview -> accpted/rejected
but i am not sure which course requires interview and which course doesnt.
I do know pharmacy, medic certainly require interview before you are admitted.

oh and also munsyi! but i cannot tell more about this because i was admitted under the old system.

I got CGPA of 3 without koko. My koko marks is around 8. So can go in for computer science or not (I prefer software)? gpa is without koko is it?

for USM it is unlikely you can get com science according to the stats.
But you can try other uni like UPM, UM, UKM and other IPTA. Please refer to the link in first post. do your own homework.

with 2.25, you can forget all the courses in USM since they require GPA >3.00.
However, you can look for those unpopular courses in UM, UPM, UTM and UKM in the first link and see the statistics.

Ideally, you should be applying for UTEM, UNIMAP, UMP and other IPTA.
Also, apply for UTAR in case u din get any offer from IPTA.

actualy.. upu doesnt need u to input any stpm or muet results.. their system is directly linked wif ur results online..

that's good.. it minimise a lot of mistakes by d applicant.. unless.. d other side made a mistake.. then its a different story..

if u r realy nt interested in science (ur result is obvious).. mayb u can switch to arts field..

im kinda lost in which courses should i take, and to make things worse, my results,
pa-3.33 B+
math t-3.00 B
physics- 2.67 B-
chemistry- 2.33 C+

cgpa=2.83

my koko mark = 7.25

else, just apply to UMS UNIMAS UMT UTEM UNIMAP UMP UHTM (again, refer to the first post to check all the courses and corresponding GPA)
its your own future so please dig in more before you decide what to apply.

i got 3.08. koko marks 7.95. i'm going for materials engineering and material science in UKM. would i get a chance?

btw, i also applied for communications for USM. =)

UM/UKM minimum 3.7~4.0 ... 3.08 .. should try UMP, USM, UTeM, UniMAP all these ..

Honestly im at a deadlock.
Cgpa=3.92
Koko=8.68

I want to apply dentistry, but UKM and UM pointers are 4.0, Eitherway 1st choice is shoot UKM dentistry. Though i can try USM kelantan.
the problem is 2nd.. I am not interested in doing engineering, but im just considering Telecommunication and computer engineering in UKM which i have high enough cgpa to enter.

Wanted to do actuarial science but it is also 4.0 @_@

you MUST apply for USM kelantan campus as well because it doesnt clash with your UPU application.

If you insist on either dentistry or actuarial science, you can go to IPTS in case all your UPU/USM application failed.
Just as a backup plan, apply to UTAR for actuarial science and other medical IPTS for dentistry.

i believe applicants with borderline cgpa's for professional/competitive courses have a slightly higher chance if they apply for USM.

Courses like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, applicants will go through an interview after the MUNSYI test.

No choice, if you don't have > 3.5, the possibility is hard to enter these top universities.
Don't forget there are a lot of matrikulasi 4.0 students.

i get CGPA 3.5 im gonna choose uni for filling upu....any suggestion which uni better in mechanical engineering beside the top uni?

Hi! It is still possible to go into research UNIs. But i am not so sure with the CGPA as i no longer got myself involved with these things. You should check the links in the first post for updated info. I am pretty sure they still update the CGPA every year. Those courses you listed are actually not that unpopular. The real unpopular courses are management, arts, industrial technologies (food tech, wood tech, cloth tech) and many others.

Don be confused, just check the shengxue links 1 by 1 (in the first post, go to the website) and study last year's admission stats. You will then know which course to apply.

Hello. This is my first ever post on lowyat. I got 3.09 for my stpm with A,B, B-,B- on pa, chemi, physics and maths respectively. I am comsidering software engineering/computer science course for my upu but i feel near certain that i wont get any of the research universities. Apart from those what are other iptas that i can consider?
I am considering uthm,ums,utem and umt but not sure which one i am supposed to put as first choice. Any form of help is greatly appreciated.

p.s.
I am not really sure if this is the right place to post this. If i made a mistake pls forgive me.I am new to forums.
