I was being quoted RM9 per sqft on wall tiling for my wet kitchen., where the calculation is by surface area. Exclude tile. Is it exaggerating high? thanks

Do you guys opt for PVC tile trim for the tile edge/corner? Or go for tile on tile basis?

Just wish to share a LYN user experience, "kamion" on tile selection:

"
For my kitchen:

Table Top: Niro Horizon Stone GHS04 Ash Lappato 60x60cm
Floor: Niro Horizon Stone GHS03 Sahara Matt 60x60cm.
Wall: MML WG021 Gloss White 30x60cm

So far after 1.5 years, I haven't had any problems with my wet kicthen table top. Lappato surface is a little rougher than matt, so there are no finger print problems at all. Porcelain tiles are very tough, and none have scratched or cracked. Even if it were scratched, it'll be hard to see on a lappato surface. We chop chicken and things on a chopping board on top of the counter and it's no problem.

Matt flooring for wet kitchen is a must. In fact, matt tiles can still be a little slippery when wet, and you still have to be a bit careful, but you slip a bit and then your feet finds some grip. Lappato is more grippy, so it's up to you if you want to go for lappato surface floor as well.

The MML tile I chose for my wall is a ceramic tile. Ceramic tiles are not as strong as porcelain, and have higher absorption, but it's good enough for walls. We bought one of those cooking protective aluminium sheets and stuck it on the wall under our exhaust hood and behind our cooker so we can wipe off the grease from cooking. As long as you keep the wall near where you cook clean (wipe it every day after cooking), it''ll be fine.

For our bathroom countertop, we didn't have the money to go for granite tops, so we used Feruni Black & White Aludra Black AL81NN 60x60cm. This is a gloss surface tile, and it's easy to see water stains on them, though they can be wiped off. I wouldn't recommend the same Feruni tile because they seem quite brittle and actually, there a chip already in our bathroom near the edge where our tiles rounded the tile to make the edge less sharp.

Hope it helps.

Will oil be penetrating porcelain tiles? Especially those white based, homogeneous tile?

Just with to share my experience for tile selection on my concrete countertop with 2x2 porcelain tiles, this is especially who is considering MML as their choice.

I have choose to use Satori White (MUP052) 2x2 porcelain tiles as my tabletop choice, where I pay my visit to their MML Gallery in PJ. When the tiles delivered and my contractor perform installation, their common practice is to use non - permanent artline marker to mark on the tiles for cutting. They were stunned by the marker mark not being to remove as soon as they want to wipe it off. More drama to it, it is so porous that pencil marking stainned the tile permanently.

I manage to make a call to the sales person and they passed the call to QC department. They advise to use Davco CTC800 solotion to remove the stain, if the solution is not working they will proceed with tile replacement. I do not have such solution (neither ACE hardware), so i made my way to the MML Gallery, and reproduce the stain using whiteboard marker, permanent marker and pencil. They having a hard time to remove the stain and failed, they say will forward this to QC dept for follow up. I wish to resolve with full refund and till now (1 day lapsed) has not response from them. Beside, I also demo the same stain and its easily removed on NIRO sample tile (GMA25).

Moral of the story, ask for small piece of sample (which I failed to do on MML) and try to stimulate the daily wear and tear before place order.
