Is it a good idea to buy from the main showroom since they are supposedly the HQ (main source). Will the price diffrence be significant?

Been to a few Major Tiles showroom

Feruni in Jalan 213, Petaling Jaya

Guocera in Wisma Kemajuan, Petaling Jaya

MML in Jalan 215, Petaling Jaya

White Horse in Ceramic World, Selayang

Niro Granite - Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya.

Actually, I was advised by people that you should try to get tiles from a local shop nearby especially if they have a reputation of good and fast service. You'll find that you might need extra tiles ordered and in short notice, and ordering direct from the main showroom, you might not get as personal service.

For me, I've been using a tile shop in TTDI. I did not compare prices with Jln Ipoh, but have compared prices with the main showroom and I'm getting lower than main showroom prices. The lady is really good, responsive, friendly and helpful. I even ordered some tiles, and then decided to change colour/model later and she was able to do that for me.

For kitchen walls and bathroom walls, you can use ceramic tiles, as you won't expect to be putting anything heavy on the walls. wink.gif

For floors, you would want to use porcelain tiles because they have lower absorption rate than ceramic tiles so hopefully they won't stain as easily. You will want "matt" surfaced tiles as you would expect the kitchen and bathroom to get wet. Homogeneous or not, up to you la. I opted for homogeneous for my kitchen floor because I thought there'll be a chance something might drop on the floor and chip it.

Good advice. Direct and to the points. Thanks.

Some facts I've Googled - my own summary tongue.gif
Ceramic Tiles - Standard Clay Tiles with a coloured surface
2 types -
Glazed (Shiny)
Unglazed (Matte)

Porcelein Tiles - Porcelein Clay Tile (fired at much higher temperatures than ceramic tiles)
-more dense,
-less porous,
-much harder
-less prone to moisture and stain absorption
2 types-
Glazed (Shiny) - may or may not have the same coloration from top to bottom because of the top glazed layer
Unglazed (Matte) = Homogeneous Tiles - through-body coloration

So kamion advice makes perfect sense rclxms.gif

Buying from a showroom in my experience is a bad one because they do not give good prices, have strict min order quantity and therefore charge even for delivery. Sometimes takes longer time to get the tiles

Showroom is the place where you can see (and feel the texture, etc) for yourself the actual tile. Don't expect too much discount as they cannot be cheaper then their dealers, can they? Once you have decided on the particular tile that you like, then you can search around for the best price at the tile shop around your place.

Yup I think there's a working relationship they need to maintain. Good idea to visit to get ideas and also rough costs. Bad idea to purchase straight without hunting around. Niro seems to encourage you to get tiles from them though but Guocera tries to hint that you should try to get from tiles shops.

I liked the tile shop in Taman Megah.

Jo_da, he provided the floor plan for bathroom only. you forgot the wall area x 4.

let say wall height is 9' as well. total wall = 5.5x9x2 + 9x9x2 = 99 + 162 + floor 49.5 = 310.5/4100 = RM13++/sqf.

and normally contractor will top up cost for dismantle the WC, Basin, concrete table top.....
*
It includes walls, that's right. Also, I've learnt that the price includes tiles too, which I've selected from a Guocera catalogue, and the contractor has purchased based on the tile code nos. I've given him. Labour charges include dismantling and re-installing WC, basin and miscellaneous stuff like mirror, towel holder. I was assured that waterproofing is included too. So, it might not be cheap, but judging from the replies I've gotten here, I figure it is not unreasonable either. If the quality of work is good, I'm fine with it. Work starts on Monday. Fingers crossed all goes well smile.gif

Sorry I mean, the quoted price includes dismantling and re-installing. I have no idea how much is the labour charges, since the price includes tiles.

hi everyone, i really need your HELP!

i want to redo my kitchen top and one side of my bathroom wall, so i ask a contractor to come my place and quote the price. the quotation he gave is around RM6000 involve tiles. but it is way beyond my budget...plus i don't think this small project will cost this lot (kitchen top is L shape, bathroom is just one side, both are quite small scale, please see pictures attached). I really really need your advice here - normally it will cost how much? where to find a cheaper contractor?

New info from talking with Kevin from Niro Granite Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya.

Homogeneous = Porcelein, The material are the same from surface to the base.

Full Bodied = The Top colour are saturated Fully in to the tile.
Half Bodied = The Top colour are saturated partially (half) in to the tile.

I read somewhere in this forum that if you bring a contractor to Niro Granite showroon,
they can get 28% discount. drool.gif
Today when I went (I am not contractor),
the salesman Kevin in Jalan Penchala told me that this deal was discontinued 2 months ago, cry.gif

Guys,

Just some info.
I recently bought tiles from Super Ceramic at Jalan 222.
Quite pissed off with the lady working there.
While choosing the tiles, she kept pushing us to purchase in carton quantity (box by box) which meant we'd be buying extra.
Concerned that we will be saddled with a lot of extra tiles, we kept asking her - are we allowed to return the extra tiles if it's too many.

She said if it's tiles that she have to specially order or tiles on special discount - then no returns.
Then she said, if it's tiles that they have in stock in their stock and returned by unopened cartons, she will accept.
So we thought, that it's reasonable that we can only return tiles which are not opened and purchased most of the tiles by carton.
And of course, there's extras.
So today, I called her to arrange for a return.
Guess what?
She denied that she said she will allow returns and that the receipt/ invoice clearly stated no returns, bla bla bla..

Then when I quoted what she said to me that day - sentence by sentence, she backed down and say she'll accept the returns at an extra charge. mad.gif

I really hate people who say just about anything to make a sale.
Terrible service!! shakehead.gif

I brought most of my tiles (except Niro) from them. So far the service is reasonable, she help me source some tiles which i short of. I did not recall they say can return, she advice for Lori delivery is better to buy in box cause loose pieces may drop and crack during transportation. Only Mosaic she advice can buy loose pieces cause is very expensive, and packing is smaller.

Is good to have some spares not sure how many spare you have, some i have 1 box of 6, some only few pieces.

If buy @ HQ, they will not give you good price. All follow the rules. Distributor have distributor price, reseller have reseller price, Contractor have contractor price. Also another disadvantage you only have one brand selection which may limit your choice and budget.

Large place like ipmuda, Super ceramic they stock common tiles and will be able to give you a good discount, with more option to choose from.

Of course during Niro have warehouse sales (maybe other brand too) you get better discount. E.g. I got my Niro with 28% discount, while outside is about 23 - 25%.
