Hi sifus, jus wanted to know why the tiles installation varied so much from rm 3psf to 10psf, is it the workmanship varied so much?

You can question them how they stick on tiles.
Got back butter?
Got use laser level (best) or just chalk line (not so accurate) or simply stick only ikut suka hati (worst)? https://www.lazada.com.my/products/4d-16-li...7268642827.html
Got use the corner spacers to ensure every grout line is nicely spaced out? https://www.lazada.com.my/products/2000pcs-...1788982967.html
Got use the levelling spacers to ensure each tile and its neighbour are equal level? https://www.lazada.com.my/products/100pcs-t...7448788710.html
Use special waterproofing (esp for wet area) like SikaTop Seal 107 (this stuff not cheap - https://www.lazada.com.my/products/sika-sik...4670302279.html )
or just use normal RM16 OPC 50kg cement mix with sand and adhesive only?

If simply stick anyone also can stick for you but whether it is a lasting job or tiles falls off in 2-3 yrs.. that's the question.

It also depends on whether the tiling folks want to take the job or not
Sometimes if they dowan to do they quote you sky high so to avoid saying no outright and hurt ur feelings laugh.gif

There may be surcharge for tiles larger than 2x2 (not so easy to install nicely, those huge tiles used in fancier lobby), and for extra tiny (smaller than 10x10cm) eg mosaic postage stamp sized cos it need more effort to do.

been given quote of RM5k for my new tiling (about 500 sqft, 2x2 tiles for my living room) about RM10/sqft

1. Hacking and remove existing vinyl flooring
2. Remove tiles (below the vinyl)
3. Supply labour to lay tiles and skirting
4. Supply material cement , cement gum and others

is this reasonable? appreciate if anyone who is kind enough to share (can just PM) recommended contacts for tiling you have done. Thank you!

i think the quotation is ok, but im worried on the workmanship. never want to have tiling problems again rclxub.gif

this is some video shared on their social media https://www.instagram.com/p/CGMhktbpIjz/?igshid=cslt5pwhq27q

seems like is done by indon friends and not sure how they measure levelling, use and any proper corner, levelling spaces etc (as learnt from previous post here)

appreciate any feedbacks or if you have any reliable contacts for consideration. thanks!

The video link that you have posted here shows that they are just performing repair works using a few tiles. The cement screed is not being removed as to minimized work (not recommended, but your cost will be cheap). Since this is a repair work that involved a few pieces of tile and it is not located at a car porch or bathroom (with gradient), the workers just need to follow the surface level of the next existing tiles.

Hi all, anyone know does high heat (sun) where expose every evening will cause the tiles "pop out"?

Or the kitchen backyard land has sinked that cause it pop out.

Or soley just because poor workmanship that cause "pop out"

Any suggestion what to look at when engage tiles contractor? I have leftover of 10 pieces same porcelain tiles. Not sure its sufficient but as i tested each tiles, sound like more than 10 pieces has hollow sound. All tiles have hollow sound are facing sun exposed direction

If there's a piece that has loosened, looking at the tile mortar patches on the tile/on the cement screed below will show how it was installed.

Hard to say whose fault perhaps.

Anything exposed to the sun with expand ans shrink to temp change, but by how much depends on the material. Not all tiles the same. The tile expansion and the cement behind it expand at different rate thus caused delamination. However, not to count out poor workmanship too but in this case possibly both biggrin.gif

The house is on rigid house frame. Normally on soft soil, they do piling. However, when soil eroded over time the house frame structure can stress also a bit and cause small crack like you normally see on wall. If there is tile on that part, the tile can become lose or even cracked as in my kitchen (hairline crack)

thanks.

i've engaged one of the contractor who suggested to remove the tiles & and reinstall it by applying marble gum. at first suggested to use silicon gum but I told him I dont think silicon can hold for long.

anyone experience solving the problem by using marble gum?

Thank you

I believe the marble glue is another name for epoxy glue. Yes, normally it will solve the problem. Even silicone that meant for outdoor can withstand heat and cold like one used for gutter for about 20 years.

Any specific brand for epoxy glue to be use? So in short, epoxy glue better than silicon right? Whats your opinion?

I'd say epoxy is better in my opinion. Brand? I have no idea since I'm not in contracting business whatever. In electronics industry but like DIY at home.

Does anyone know the average cost psf for homogeneous tiles + installation? My contractor quote 22psf and he said it is because homogeneous tiles are much more expensive. I loooked online and yeah they are expensive, but not that much more expensive.
