How are the prices like?

My contractor took me to a shop in Kajang but i can't get the ones that i have in my mind.

I went to Ga Hing as well but i'm not sure whether their prices are worth.

Not the cheapest, but quality wise so far ok. The lady is helpful.

Simen? you mean cement right?

If the level are very low, you need to raised the floor to desire level with cement. After Cement dry than lay tiles + cement.

My house, the wet and dry kitchen was very low (drop 6"), contractor put cement + sand and wait few days, only put tiles + cement.

The extended living hall, broken marble was installed without putting cement + sand earlier. Because is only 1.5" low, contractor do everything in one goal.

If your current floor is very low cement + sand to raised it, and wait few days only lay tiles + cement.

Guys,

Need some advise here. My contractor give me 2nd grade tiles instead of 1st grade. Am very upset now. Charging me so expensive yet give me 2nd grade tiles and cheap labours. All the promise like finish tiling in 1 week, chinese sifu and 1st grade tiles all never done. What should I do. Tiling with 2nd grade already half way done. I really don;t like the 2nd grade tiles. Can share some of your thoughts about 1st grade Vs 2nd grade. Thanks.
*
And how do you find out is 2nd Grade?

Grade 1 can also be old tiles. And some Tiles manufacture will downgrade the existing tiles from Grade 1 to Grade 2 if put in stock for too long because color fade.

Looking at the promo above makes me wonder how are the tiles i've seen in Super Ceramic where they were selling:

1' x 1' for about RM2.30/pc and 10" x 13" for about the same price....as compared to those RM10 and above for 600mm x 600mm..anyone care to explain?
*
Bigger pieces are more costly. Even installation is also more expensive for 2x2. E.g. my contractor quote me RM 4.8 /sqft for all material except tiles to install a 2x2. and RM 1 less for smaller tiles. This is already consider cheap because its part of the renovation bundle. And the sifu is a very experience Chinese uncle.

But I think Feruni is difference, you can ask them cut into smaller tiles and that will need make the smaller tiles more expensive.

That's the problem..I visitted SUPER CERAMIC yesterday and also Homedec..the price can be hugely different but yet the cheap one are from Guocera...i'm now a little confused. Hope someone can shed some light...
*
Guocera, even other brand like niro can have cheap tiles. Niro showroom told me some tiles are cheaper because of few reason

01) Grade A vs Grade B
02) Color fade, so downgrade to Grade B
03) Over production
04) Left over from project
05) Common
06) Outdated
07) Reject.

Thanks guys for the explanation..any idea how i can make sure the tiles i'm getting are of good grades and material other then the price indication? And anyone has a good contractor to recommend for Tile and plumbing work? Thanks in advance..
*
Most of the shop i go will inform me if its Grade 1 or 2 (A/B).

I don't know about other I survey a number of tiles shop. Last I went to Super Ceramic @ 222 to purchase most of my tiles except kitchen floor tiles. So far find the service is reasonable. Price is also reasonable.

If you don't put BRC, your floor will sink. Is even faster if you drive huge heavy car or truck.

The BRC is acting as reinforcement for the slab to prevent cracking. It does not effect whether the slab sink or not.
Proper compaction below the slab will ensure/ reduce the sinking. smile.gif

Maybe is not good to put "sink" only. Is actually is called RC, not BRC. It make the concrete better support tensile strength and sudden change in stress (load). Without RC, and with soft soil it will crack and sink down.

If RM 2.5 per Sqft, and a 2x2 will be RM 10. If that is the case possible but don't expect good color, finishing and nice looking.

If budget about RM 15 to RM 20 for a 2x2 can open up a wide variety.

How to spot difference between grade 1 & 2 tiles ? I was at showroom & can't see anything wrong, or mayb my standard too low haha.. The savings a lot if use type 2, but will it be obvious when it is installed ? I was thinking using for wall. It is gloss white tiles.
*
Some grade 2 thickness are not even, some cutting are not symmetrical.

Some grade 2 are because in store too long color fade and the downgrade to grade 2.

2x2 or 800mm x 800mm installation are always higher than 1x1 or 1x2

Added on March 5, 2012, 10:34 amAll things like laying tiles on steps, table top, and like raised level (for shower area), and mosaic are sometime charge difference or lump sump.

Even if you want special design on the parking porch it may charge difference (like in center make a star).

After looking at many brand and model, I don't think White horse is expensive. They are in mid range. Wait till you see Niro, Feruni, and there another brand can't remember is more expensive than Feruni.

Another option is to lay that part last if you are doing major renovation, using balance tiles. My tiler did that for me and it looks surprisingly good.

Good idea too.

Even grade A, have variance, some can go up to 5%, Niro have better control, the claim their product for grade A max variance is 3%
